Hi Dave. I just tried your method and it turned out beautifully. Thanks mate! It was a little tedious, slowly cleaning up each letter, but the end result was smick! Thanks again.
Many Thanks! I wanted to paint the Logo of my DeWalt radio, well, not very perfect as the new one but really very beautiful result! I started with the yellow, clear, and today the black. For the black i used black water colour and a small paint brush and not a black spray can, the clear on the yellow needs one month to get dry well, also the thinner on 1K clear can be little risky . So, i did it carefully with the brush, it took me around half an hour but that's ok, I cleaned carefully my small mistakes with a soft sanding pad (light gray), and Voila! Really Nice! One thin lay of clear now and is done.
Dave, can you do a tutorial on spraying things like Rear spoilers, front lips or sideskirts? always wondered how to hang and paint a spoiler or body kit part evenly? (rear spoilers particularly) great vid thanks mate!
my valve covers have no letters, I want to mask off a "Power By Ford" logo like the old Ford valve covers had stamped into them so the valve covers are blue but the letters are silver, I would use a decal but can't find a decal
Awsome video this is what I am doing to my 2jz spark plug cover, except I laid copper then am spraying midnight purple and gonna expose the copper color.
Will this technique work on metal parts also. I have a Bridgeport mill and On the front of the machine there is this nice Bridgeport raised lettering inside of an oval circle. The entire part is chrome or polished aluminum . My old machine has the same logo but the the background behind the letters are painted black making the letters really pop out.. I want to make my new machine look like this.
Is that a form of wax, similar to using oil so that paint does not stick? Great idea. Painters may find Chapstick or other oils to cause an unwanted reaction with paint and clear.
Will this method work with fresh 3-D printed ABS? (I use the same style ABS as most car parts to ensure durability). I ask due to, i want my letters to "pop" on the parts i just made and have never tried doing such an intricate paint scheme.
You get nervous and run out if things to say because you’ve already said what your trying to say sometimes 3-4 times already. Lol great instructional though.
hey there. exactly which spray paint cans which you recommend using here that are sold on your website? it’s all a bit confusing because there are so many different types. which spray cans exactly? if i wanted to go with black engine cover with white raised letters with a clear coat obviously? thanks
Really great video. Can I ask what type of paint thinner you used for the lettering reveal? I’m not in an English speaking country so the chemical name would be great! Thanks
I’ve got some raised letters that I need to keep chrome. Would this be the same process just rub letters with paint thinner after primer/paint/clear? Will it hurt the chrome at all?
how much time (for drying time) between spraying black overlay and removing black on raised letters with thinner? Are you heat/baking any of these covers or just drying them in ambient room temp in booth?
Hi im going to try and paint the sprocket cover plate in black and do the letters in gold, any advice on this as the letters are inverted cheers for any advice.
@@ralphgomez7730 from time of first clear coat from first colour should wait a few days. But some 2k clears can be worked with the next day. Best test a part of the area that has clear first to see if it has a reaction. 👍
Somewhere between last year's uploads and this year's uploads would make for a perfect 2019 year. I miss your content volume, but can understand being busy. Merry Christmas!
This is the first I've heard of 2K clear. Does that imply that it's heat resistant to 2000 degrees? Fabulous tutorial, though. Many good techniques with broad application for many painted parts. Especially helpful were the summary explanations at the end and how the same techniques can be used with spray can products.
the 2K means it is a 2 part paint - it has a hardener that makes it much more durable than typical 1K (1 part) paint - auto paint is 2K which is why it is as durable as it is. Depending on the clear coat used it will be resistant to X temperature but you'd get that from the TDS (tech sheet) on the 2k clear you use.
If you need a simpler technique that is “good enough”, spray your lettering and once it is dry, wipe the surface with Vaseline. Paint the rest then wipe off the Vaseline.
Hey Dave, I have some badges I'm gonna use this method on, but I have a question. One of my badges is the other way round, it has lettering that is embossed into the badge. How would you achieve the same affect, with a color on the lettering and then a badge black?
Looks great Have you got a way of getting a two tone on a car with one being a gloss 2 pac clear over base and one being a matt clear over a base? Without getting a big ugly edge?
hey mate great video i have a pair of calipers with raised letters i plan to paint and this method is justbrillant. Just one question mate, as i am plan to use off the shelf caliper paint products like dupli colour, which i think are acrylic based paints would this same method work with them?
I have a question... Can i apply a bondo on this plastic engine cover before applying a pint? My plastic engine cover has some crack on it, and im planing to paint my engine cover but before that i would like repair that cover first to make it look smooth.... Good video mann.
