Excellent work, Darcy! White doesn't have to be a nightmare these days, but I really do need to get some of those ProAcryl paints. I'm using Vallejo whites and getting decent results, keeping it thin but not too thin is the key.

Can confirm that Pro Acryl white is the GOAT of white paints. I even use it sometimes for priming some parts or bits that have been glued later on painted models (like purity seals). It can even be painted over black in a couple of coats without difficulty

Are you kidding me? that looks so simple and practical! Absolutely going to give it a try when I get started on my White Scars. Its Epic scale but hopefully the principles are the same!
@DarcyBonoCreations
@DarcyBonoCreations 4 месяца назад
Yep, same principles but one thing to keep in mind for epic scale is that the recesses may be more shallow. That being said, use just a tiny bit of everything in the video at time, otherwise you'll just end up with a basic all over shade coat instead of a recess shade. Just use everything more sparingly is what I'm trying to say 😅

@DarcyBonoCreations
@DarcyBonoCreations 28 дней назад
Well thank you! And you can absolutely still do the GW way with this method. The medium just helps with the recess shade is all, and the brown from the Agrax results in a warmer white.

Yea good advice on the wash, I'm new to contrast paints but your method really does make a good wash for white armour, I struggled to get a good wash otherwise. Personally I do a base coat in Vallejo silver grey, which by eye is pretty much white, use your wash method then highlight, as the highlight stands out just a little more for definition. Thank you for the video.

So I like your method but I was delighted with your opinion on weathering. I was chatting with a mate about it in regards to Space Marines today and I noted the following. Space Marines are elite troops which means their kit is always in stunning condition. I cited my experience in the Australian army when we were in the bush. Our weapons boots and metallics were all cleaned after dawn stand to. Never was there rust or grime on the kit and the boots had a coat of dull polish to reinforce water resistance and leather protection. So keeping the kit clean is on point. Secondly, the armour is Ceramite not metal so no rust spots, if ever it was allowed to develop in the first instance.

8:07, also, that really is the White Scars aesthetic. There are other Legions for those interested in grim dark white, but Scars should be stark and clean. Maybe the occasional chip or scratch, but clean white is what sets them apart as a real challenge to paint well.

Took you advice and used the Army Painter Mixing Balls and pulverized those pesky gigantic pigment into submission, as an added measure I mixed in roughly 50/50ish Lahmian Medium. So far so good. My Corax White applied a lot smoother this time. after I paint all the details (As per your video) before trying out Soulblight Grey and/or Apothicary white for shading as I am looking for grey mid tones rather than cool or warm tones. I will let you know how this turn out I will also look into PRO ACRYL. Call me obsessed, but I like the challenge of using Citadel Paints. 😀

I'm actually in a constant debate with my husband (scale modeler) about Contrasts vs Oils. Honestly it feels like they do almost the exact same thing but Contrasts have a way faster drying time. They both create filters and gradients, but the only thing oils seem superior at is creating grittier streaking effects 🤔
