Jenna M if you want to make sure it’s still breathable, then this method is perfect! I have a lot of terra-cotta pots left orange but I have two rooms in my house that I prefer to have mainly white and gray pots to match the room decor. This way I can have pots that match and are still breathable! This would probably make more sense if a did a house plant tour.

@@loosawrr5092 nah it shouldn’t, terracotta will absorb it then once it’s sealed it doesn’t bother the soil/plant. The reason we seal the inside is because we don’t want the paint to crack on the outside, which will happen if the inside isn’t sealed as the terracotta will absorb the water when u water the plant and will ruin the paint job

Think she mentioned only acrylic paints so it can be any paint as long as it's a water based paint. I'm not sure what oil based paints will do on this kind of medium such as terracotta and how it will work with water running through it. But all I know is that oil based paints are heavier and take a longer time it dry. Maybe the chemicals in oil based paints aren't good for plants. I'm guessing though.

Kelendra Beesler any acrylic based paint (including pain pens) SHOULD work the same as long as you seal it correctly. But I’ve never done it so I can’t make any promises.

Kassandra Carnosa if the pots do still patina, it's underneath the paint because I've never seen it on my painted pots. I would recommend sealing you pots! And it washes off your hands pretty easily, but it doesn't come off surfaces easily at all.

Mariette Demarest this is what I suggest. I’ve been doing it this way for a long time with no damage to my furniture or shelves. The saucers have prevented the damage, the same way they would with ANY pot with a drainage hole.

Saloni Jain it’s basically like never allowing the paint on your walls to dry. Watering your plant would keep the paint constantly moist. So the paint would bubble up to or move around. And if it’s currently dry because you haven’t watered you plant in awhile, it could easily chip and scratch off.

Farah Azzam Taleb I’ve done it before and the sealant doesn’t smear anything as long as you let the paint dry properly.

Hanis Nn I’m sure there are alternatives but this is the only one I’ve used and won’t recommend something I haven’t used. You can look for another sealant as long as it claims to be for porous materials. Or claims to be a penetrating sealant.

@@rosymaharjan1600 yes i did! But in a hardware store. Is is solvent bases silicone to paint on slab, concrete or stones. The brand is Aja Winwin. Not sure if its available in Nepal

amy Nguyen the glossy acrylic seals aren’t usually made for porous materials. Which means the terracotta won’t wick moisture anymore. This means the pot isn’t breathable and then the paint will also start to bubble because water is getting trapped under the sealant.

amy Nguyen there’s no texture. It maybe has a slight sheen but I wouldn’t call it glossy.

nadinzam acrylic is what it’s made out of. Multi-surface satin is just the description of the paint. And the paint I’m using is Valspar paint made for walls. Any acrylic paint, even craft paint as long as it’s acrylic will work.

Adrialyn Signo if you don’t use sealant, and use it properly, the paint will start to bubble up, move around, and get scraped off because there’s too much moisture.

Scrub em, you can wipe down with alcohol too

Danielle Brown I honestly have no idea. I imagine as long as it’s acrylic based spray paint and you let it dry completely, it SHOULD work the same way. But I’ve never done it so take this with a grain of salt.

Angelica Moore no to 511 impregnator. The sealants are made for different surfaces. If you use 511 impregnator instead of porous plus, I can’t say it will work.

I bought mine at Michael’s “craft” store in NJ.

Erin Makes I don't seal to prevent scuffing. I seal to prevent the paint from bubbling up. If you don't seal it, the paint won't fully cure, which is what causes the bubbles. I use this sealant and not resin to make sure the pot is still moisture wicking.

Then it would make more sense to seal the pot before you paint it. The only reason to seal acrylic is to prevent scuffing and add surface protection period when the paint bubbles on something it's because of moisture from below the paint. it would make sense if you sealed it beforehand and then put the acrylic on it but I don't think even that will help because acrylic forms a solid sheet of plastic on the surface and doesn't breathe great. essentially painting it and then sealing it to help it breathe is like laying a place of plastic down and then putting a breathable sealer over top of it.

Using a penetrating porous sealant works the best for me and this method but if you have a different method that works for you, that’s awesome!

Jackie Tsang I'm not sure what's available in Canada but any sealant that claims to be a "penetrating sealant" or "made for porous materials" should work.

Wayne if you use a porous sealant like I mentioned in the video, and do it correctly, water will still wick out like normal without bubbling up. This method is for people who still want the water to enter the pot and be wicked away.

@@plantmyhappyspace3477 I am a painter by trade and have been painting pots-for 30 years .. sealant should be used as a first coat .. not after painting .. perhaps thats why you need to wipe it off.. I promise you that you should be using a clear acrylic all over the inside and outside of your pots .. I use them in the garden for years and when I reuse them they are still perfect .. anyway I guess if it works for you then keep doing it .. but you are sweet and caring lady doing the best for people..and i loved watching your video..

@@wrj888 what sealant do you use? I paint designs on my pots and want something that will protect the paint from cracking and getting stained. I still want to make sure the pot will be nice for the plants. Thanks for your help
