Do You Know How to Paint over Paneling? If you use the wrong paint, it will flake off. In this video, we explore the proper Painting Primer to Use for Paneling, and we discuss Painting Cabinets.
The stuff in the bath you asked about & scratched was called grasscloth. It’s wallpaper & came in all types of textures & colors. It was very popular in the 80’s-90’s.
Ok, so I've actually painted our half wall paneling in our basement. Semi gloss white with the top half gray. It came out great! Looks super modern and like we paid a lot of money for beadboard. All you have to do is two coats killz primer where you hit the grooves first with a brush then roll the primer over everything. then two coats white or whatever color you decide. our paneling was pretty dark and that covered really well. you can't see anything. also, sanding is not a needed step if you use primer first. Our paneling was super shiny and just by doing what i already said, we've had no problems.
Thanks for the tip. I've been looking at house to buy but really put off with the ugly dark paneling on a few properties. Looks like it's an easy solution 🙂
So this video doesn’t show them painting the paneling. They explain the process they went through. 1) used pole sander & 100 grit sandpaper. (Paying attention the the shine in the paneling becoming duller & that’s when you know it’s ready for priming) 2) used bonding primer, estimate cost $56 USD /gallon 3) Used lots of paint I don’t think the video is completely useless. They mentioned a couple things I didn’t know about.
I appreciate the way this guy Tim explains.. I know enough about painting paneling to know Tim is very knowledgeable about it.. there are faster and cheaper ways around painting paneling but if you want it done right, listen to and do what my man Tim says here !!
Nice job guy, looks ok. Now the ceiling and carpets look worse by comparison. Too bad the homeowner did not hire out to redo that ceiling and floors. 😂
The only other thing that’s just as bad as having the ugly ass wood paneling in a home is painting over it and still having the ugly vertical lines. My old 40s home has Wood paneling that the previous owners painted over. I am trying to find a solution to redo this and get rid of the ugly lines.
Really ? Im wanting to paint my “UGLY brown paneling , and i was happy when i came across this , but now sadly i left just as ignorant on how to paint paneling . I saw u paint some sheet rock. ( did i spell thnat right lol )
Nor very informative. I do not want the groves to show in the paneling, if I want texture I would rather use a texture roller, otherwise it will just look like painted paneling, which I am trying to avoid. I have a liquid deglosser from Sherwin Williams, filling the shallow groves with Dap, using a sponge fine sander for sanding the Dap, wipe the walls with a damp cloth, then Kilz oil base bonding primer $24 from WalMart, tape off and paint.
Wow this video didn't explain anything. Luckily I just painted a house with panelling. I swapped the panelling for sheet rock in the kitchen but in the living I found 2 coats of I very good primer (I used kilz with the blue and white label) and at least 2 coats of paint should do the job. I used 3 coats of paint but I didn't sand the panelling at all and it turned out nice.
OK guys let me save you seven minutes of your life: 1. Light sanding 2. Bonding primer There ya go! The entirety of the actual information in the video, and it didn't even appear until 6:16 !
Also sometimes I share this, the Bible says that GOD loves us so much that he sent his son JESUS CHRIST to this earth and HE lived a perfect sinless life. And JESUS went to a cross and gave HIS life for us.And rose again in 3 days and who ever will receive JESUS AS THEIR SAVIOR AND ASK HIM TO COME INTO THEIR HEART AND FORGIVE THEIR SINS,HE WILL TAKE YOU TO HEAVEN.
Don't take this the wrong way, but you ruined the place. It looked much better before with the wood paneling. Just my 2 cents. I guess I'm one of the very few that prefer the 70's aesthetic to bland white, sterile interiors.
So you tell us this video is for those of us who want to know how to paint paneling. Then you bugger off to visit a guy who is working with sheet rock. And then we come back and all the paneling is painted. Who did it? The paint fairies? More importantly, how did they do it? Waste of time.
It's the sight of old hinges on the cabinets and the knobs!!!! We are used to hidden hinges now a days. They should have ar least changed the cabinet handles too.
