You need gloves!

DIY Paint has nine non chemical ingredients, it’s clay based. No off gassing & likely the cleanest paint on the market. There is more harm in the latex in gloves. I never wear gloves when I paint & I paint inside without concern 💕

I drove an hour away to get the paint in a lovely shade of brown. I owned a 1988 Chinook camper van and the brown velvety seats had faded to almost pink. The seats were tufted and presented a challenge to get under the folds by the buttons...and it took a lot of time. The end result was great!

major tip : brush the paint in with a cat hair brush as you go; the paint brush in one hand and the cat brush in the other. This will work the paint in better and deter the paint from concentrating in areas. Also it will help the upholstery to dry fluffy rather than crusty.

Three years ago, this past Spring I watched your 1st video on how you painted your couch hot pink. Inspired, I painted my couch and matching chair, a shabby chic pale blue. It's been three years, three kids, the hubby, and our German Shepherd ...and the couch/chair are still holding its color. They are easy to clean with just warm soapy water. I get so many compliments, the most recent was from one of my customers 2 weeks ago. She came to purchase refinished painted furniture from me. Ooing and awwing over my shabby chic style. She asked me if she could rent my furniture and decor for her daughter's shabby chic birthday party. Wow! I thought. What a compliment. So it's been three years since you inspired me with that project. Many times in my head I have thanked you, but now, "Thank You Debi! Your ideas and inspirations changes lives and hearts! I know this, because it changed our home and all who enter in." :)

You just want to know how to do it, and the outcome but some people go on and on and on and you just want to pull out your hair as you have to gruel through their story and yak yak yak. So, your videos are just great, upbeat, professional and very helpful. This sofa turned out just beautiful. I use AS chalk paint to paint upholstery and I have been very happy with the end results. Since the paint acts more like a dye, do I need to take the upholsteries initial color into account? for example, if I have a yellow chair and I put blue paint on it, will it turn out green?

Beautiful color change! I didn't even know you could dye a couch and it be executed without color transfer or water damage to it. Thanks for showing , great job!

✨✨This is a important link with answers for the sealing of this couch too...I was under the impression liquid patina was used on the entire couch...until I saw this IMPORTANT link. The liquid patina was used only on the arm rests for demonstration purposes only...NOT ON THE ENTIRE COUCH It's nice to know that this can cure on its own 1-2 months.. I personally wanted more info...used the Big top on a suede couch...did not do much to be honest...so I did the tinting part just right with bohemian blue..I will rework the tint with water & sanding sponge.. I just do wish I read this link first!!!!!

I've only just seen this , wow thanks! One little tip , since the paint was dilute , you could have used a spray bottle as an applicator , and a new scrub brush (like a shoe polishing brush) to work the paint into the fabric. But nice vid and couch , love the colour!

@casecase6
@casecase6 6 лет назад
@@donnak9258 it might depend on the material, but ive done 3 of these older crushed velvet types, just watered down the dye, painted and sprayed it out let it dry completely and scotchgarded it. No problems. So far ive only done a different shade so i took yellow chair to orange, light blue to darker teal etc. There are tutorials on here try searching it good luck!

I have painted a sofa and chairs before watching any vids. I soon found the crackling and did not know there were any vids so I just started adding water and ironing the couch.....LOL, intuitively. It turned out nicely and I actually sold it. I am in the process of making my own chalk paint and will follow your instructions here. One question, do you rewet the fabric after painting when applying more paint? Thank you for this vid...really gorgeous couch you have there.
@vegasjill21
@vegasjill21 8 лет назад
Hi rei ~ I WISH I had found this gal's video before I listened to too many other people with upholstery chalk painting videos!! UGG!! Mine turned out just like Debi warned...too thick of chalk paint and now it is hard and crunchy! Glad you have some better intuition than I do and was able to correct your misguided painting instructions before you ruined the whole project!!! Now I have to figure out how to soften the chunky dried paint before I try to finish painting!! Sanding block or soft wire brush, I guess.. And I'd like to know if the fabric needs to be re-wet before starting that second coat, also! But I would think yes. Take care. :)
@reigna963
@reigna963 8 лет назад
Yes that's your intuitive self talking and i would also wet and iron...that's what worked for me...do not give up...you'll see, basically you're wearing it down.
@vegasjill21
@vegasjill21 8 лет назад
rei Hi rei! Thanks alot ...yes I finally brushed it down and it is much softer, thank goodness. lol But it came out looking pretty nice. :)
@DebisDesignDiary
@DebisDesignDiary 7 лет назад
Rel, good call! Yes I wet it down every time and worked the paint into the fiber of the fabric so it acts like a dye rather than a paint, you don't want the paint to sit on top of the surface, if it does it changes the texture to a slick or rough surface that will crack and not feel like the original fabric.

Hello everyone. If you want the sofa to be a certain color you have to remember the underlying tone in this case gold...the color of the paint was teal which is a shade of blue green. What happens when you mix blue and gold...you get green. That's why the sofa didn't turn out the same color as the paint.
@bgs03548
@bgs03548 2 года назад
Not sure colors blend like that when one color is dyed and already dry. Colors can blend and change when both are the same medium. You can’t paint a black car white and get a grey car.
