to be honest this goes beyond corrosion for me and almost looks like spiritual glow.

yeah i agree, usually corrosion goes for a much more richer and saturated colour, the whiter (desaturated) tones here really makes it look eerie/ethereal glow

I always use Abteilung 502 oil paints for my washes and weathering. Every time I use a GW wash or contrast painting it eats through the paint under it. But I can’t complain I think oils are easier to use. Great job on the weathering effect.
@jensskautrup640
@jensskautrup640 3 года назад
I think for a weathered bronze, the effect should have more green, and less blue. More realistic for bronze imo. But ofc this is a fantasy miniature, who really knows what metals they have in the mortal realms. This looks great though!!

What would you recommend to varnish the effect? A matt would be correct for the verdigris, but would kill the metallic. Alternatively, satin would be great for the metallic, but not be right for the verdigris.

Very interesting video! Thinking of adding this effect to my Death Guard models. Atleast up to Sotek Green, the things after that is way beyond my painting skills. And even up to Sotek Green will (probably) be difficult for me. Questions: -What is the metallic colour you're using as base? (or equivalent, since I don't have an airbrush) -Do you think this could work over Death Guard Green as well as the metallic paint?
@cultofpaint
@cultofpaint 3 года назад
It’s S75 Victorian brass but jut about every brand will have a good base brass/bronze colour. You’ll be fine, just keep it thin and don’t put too much on your brush. And I’m not sure about over the green, it could end up looking like really heavily oxidised bronze, bit like Statue of Liberty, could look great!

Very cool technique, I recently had an oil wash strip paint from a piece of terrain - it was the bottom of a ramp I forgot to varnish, though I use an old bit of cloth to wipe up the excess. I'm guessing when having the spirit oil wash sit on the bottom of the ramp for a bit + the abbrasion of the cloth you do need a layer of varnish?
@stephenboulton1114
@stephenboulton1114 3 года назад
It doesn’t matter if you varnish your previous paint job, pressing on to hard with the thinners will take the varnish and paint off
@cultofpaint
@cultofpaint 3 года назад
It's the abrasion of you rubbing it that's causing it to come off. Mineral spirits shouldn't react with dry acrylic paint.
@deebernaers137
@deebernaers137 3 года назад
@@cultofpaint That makes sense, with the technique I'm using I think the varnish does help though - providing an extra layer to 'take the beating' of the abrasion of the dry cloth in stead of the paint layers.
