It looks great.!!!!...and the idea that you can change it again when farmhouse industrial look is over with is a plus...personally I would have painted the vanity white and the pink corian top painted dark gray with black hardware and put a runner rug down with that same bold tile look pattern on it. ( It's just another way to decorate) and easier to change later when you move . But still a great video , looks good!!!
@@Thediyplaybook The real joy is trying to find the color. Apparently in Central Florida anyway, I do like the charcoal gray. I think everybody in Central Florida wants charcoal gray. So it is a question of looking around. I don't have two very large bathrooms but I do like the one color. I will find it eventually. Home Depot is always a zoo. I love them to death I love the people there but good Lord sometimes The challenge is getting what you need. I may have to buy them separately. To get the matte finish and a gallon of paint. I truly only needed a quart for the one bathroom it is not very large at all. But that's almost unavailable. So I will get it worked out. Thanks for giving me some encouragement. I always appreciate what I can get these days. Take care of yourself. We need you.
Amazing job and great description of what you did. How would you rate the product now, 2 years later. How did it hold up? How much touch up have you had to do over the years?
It depends on how well you prepared the surfaces, how often you use the room, and how rough you are when cleaning. Using harsh chemicals or rough scratchy cleaning tools might shorten the life of your paint.
HI- love the stenciled and repainted tile floors in your videos. How have they held up over the last 4 years? I am worried about doing this in a high traffic mudroom area. Thank you.
What colors did you use for the first floor shown? I absolutely love that combo of light colors and want to do my basement with them!! I can’t wait to use what I learned from your video!!
Ok ma'am. One more question and I will leave you alone. At Home Depot it is about $49 for 1 gallon of the charcoal gray. And it is about $30 or so for the topcoat and Matte..Does that sound about right? Since I only need a quart of each this is really starting to ramp up. I was just curious on the sizing that you got what works best for you. Thanks
You'll need way less than you think. I had a gallon of the charcoal, but easily could have just used a quart. So unless your space is really really big, a quart of each color you want to do (plus, the top coat) is all you'll need. I recommend the kit as it comes with what you need.
Your floor looks great! Just out of curiosity what are you cleaning/mopping your floor with? I am thinking of trying this method as I have the 1950's pink and white tile. My floors held up nicely over the years but it looks very dated. Any suggestions?
You can stick to your normal cleaning routine, but I would avoid anything too abrasive. I use my Dyson vacuum on my floors to pick up any dust and debris and then I mop them every other week when I clean the bathrooms. For the most part, you should be able to follow your normal cleaning schedule, even with painted floors. I would definitely give this a try! Hi DIY Playbook, very good video! Interested to do tis similiar solution. May i know how did you design the shape of the paper(3.24 min in video) for you to paint over it? Can it be outsourced to a vendor to design this paper?
Has anyone noticed a minute or two after the paint goes down, some (teensy tiny) spots don't take? I did use a steam cleaner on the grout a couple weeks ago, then yesterday I sprayed tile and grout with crud cutter, then wiped up with a micro fiber rag. After that I steam mopped in hopes to get all the crud cutter up. Now wondering if I didn't get it all up!? :( It is only a few spots, wish I could upload a photo.
No, this paint is not designed for wet exposure. But I have another tutorial on how to paint your shower with the correct paint. thediyplaybook.com/how-to-paint-your-bathtub/
If you're doing it tonight, you'll probably just want to do that first coat of the base color since you have to wait 6 hours for it to dry before moving onto the next step. That 6 hours is pretty crucial!
Great video! Could you please share with me link of the video you are showing on 0:52? And could you please let us know where did you buy the template for that floor ? Thank you!
No, it's not designed for wet areas like a shower. But there is another product you can use. I share the tutorial in this blog post. thediyplaybook.com/how-to-paint-your-bathtub/
Could you tell me what the paint colour is from your guest bathroom? I really like the white and tan colour combination and want to do something similar. I would so appreciate the info! Thank you.
AMAZING. Question though, when you move from tile to tile to do the white stencil, the wet white paint doesnt get smudges when you lay the stencil over it? I see they overlap on the edges when you work your way down the line.
This is a great video!!!! Approximately how long will the paint last before it begins to wear out? Or would sealing it every few years (how many) keep it from wearing through?
The paint is specifically designed for this purpose, so it's designed to last. You can do additional coats of sealer if you need. I actually just did a review of my 3 painted floors after a year of living with them. You can read about it here. thediyplaybook.com/painted-tile-review/
If the walls are not in a wet space, then yes! If you're referencing tile walls in a shower, then this is not the product for that. Instead, check out this blog post. thediyplaybook.com/how-to-paint-your-bathtub/
@@Thediyplaybook How wet can this floor get? Even outside a tub the floor will get quite wet. How might you explain the difference because bathroom floors do get quite wet.
Yes, you definitely can! Stenciling probably wouldn't work well, but you could do all one color. Or even use painter's tape and do stripes or your own design.
I simply do not understand why someone would put paint over a very neutral ceramic tile. Toss a large rug on it if it annoys you. All of those redos looked very cheap and would be the next person’s nightmare. 🤷🏻♀️smh
@Sherry Boesch I agree. But we have this tan tile in our bathrooms. Like the build tile. (I don't understand why builders use tan in their builds. I'm taking they get it cheap.) We have been going back and forth about painting vs laying plank vinyl. The issue with the plank is that in between mold, etc. can grow.
Have thus white mfront bathroom that mom and dad had since 1967. I'm ready for a change in color. But my entry way in the foyer into the kitchen is beautiful cream white which I would never change. But good Lord. This looks good
Look great. I have a couple of questions, though. I have a small home with ONE bathroom. It is using old 1" subway tiles. I am getting rid of an old pink toilet. I'd like to paint my bathroom floor. Is there anything I should keep in mind? How long do I have to wait before installing the new toilet? I am not going to use stencil. How long a wait do I have?
Hi Barry, I think this would definitely work for your bathroom. I would remove the toilet, clean the floor really well, and then get started painting. You have to wait 6 hours to apply the second coat, so I would start early in the morning. Then do your second coat, and then a couple of hours later do your top coat. You would be able to put the new toilet in the next day, but I wouldn't put anything else on the new floor for at least a few days just so it really has time to cure! I've done this 3 times, so I recommend reading these blog posts that are full of more tips. thediyplaybook.com/stencil-tile-floors/ thediyplaybook.com/how-to-paint-tile-floors/thediyplaybook.com/tips-to-paint-floor-tile/ Good luck! Casey
Hi Casey. I will take a look at the blog. Did you read the part that it is my only bathroom? It seems that I will be without a toilet or the use that room for a while. I definitely appreciate the information and the needed insight
@@elainewilliams2608 Just six hours after that first coat. Then just until dry. This blog post walks you through each step. thediyplaybook.com/how-to-paint-tile-floors/
I did this and purchased matte my floors look so dirty. Scuffs and dirt are stuck in the paint. I have to over scrub my floors to make them look decent
@@Thediyplaybook thanks for your reply. Mexican tile is also known as Saltillo…it’s a clay tile and very porous. After looking on RU-vid to see if anyone had done it I guess it’s a no. The only thing I see on it is to have them restored and resealed. 😢Your tile project is beautiful. 😊
