Yes your videos can be up to 5 minutes however I have seen videos that are shorter than 5 minutes in length

Are you doing ELA or Math? Many teachers use FLIP GRID or SEE SAW as you can focus on Academic Language by having students video tape a response to a question and of course provide your kiddos sentence frames and support for the language demand

thank you for introducing me to popplet! Would u recommend that me and my 2nd graders work on it together whole class? would that count for the technology video? I feel like they might be confused how to make it on their own, plus they would have to make their own accounts

Hi Jessica, yes they want to see the students using technology so be sure the video shows this. You can certainly model how to use popplet then walk around the room and record the students using it. That is the part you will submit for your video

Hi, Your video has been super helpful, but there is one area where mine is a little different from the examples you provided. I am working on my cycle 2 (math) in second grade and for my formal assessment I am using the end of unit test from the book. I am wondering what I should use as my rubric for this formal assessment, can I use an answer key to the test as my rubric? or do I need to create a rubric for the books end of unit test?

I would create a rubric that is aligned with your Learning Goals in your Part B Learning Segment Plan. Everything should be backward mapped to your formal assessment and rubric. So if you are teaching the standard "Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems" Then your rubric for your assessment will include the skills students will need to demonstrate mastery such as "accurately represent situations with symbols equations" and this will be something you explicitly taught in your learning segment

Does the formal assessment need to be written about in the 3-5 lesson learning sequence? I was planning on adminstering the formal assessment individually after the lessons are completed, but technically it is not part of the actual lesson so I wasn't sure if I should write that in the template. Thank you!

I would recommend it be part of your lesson sequence as you can then describe how you differentiate assessment

Hello! I am working on my TPA 2 now. I had a question for a long time. Do the 3-5 lessons have to consecutive? The unit I am planning actually requires 8 lessons. Can I just pick 3 to 5 lessons from the 8?

Yes they have to be consecutive they should show a level of depth in their cognitive demand and the progression of learning the skills. Your focus should be on how to backward map your learning goal so that your students are achieving the target. So for example, if you are goal is for your students to write a persuasive essay there should be a progression where you teach what a persuasive lesson is, introduce academic vocab, teach the structure and elements, and then have students write an essay

Academic language is the type of language you use in a classroom (written, spoken, read) versus a social setting. For example if your lesson is on greetings in spanish you would highlight the key terminology and emphasize the use of formal and informal greetings so that students understand what to use when.

Hello. Thank you for your videos. The last question on CALTPA Cycle 2 Step 1-A is "h. topic of content-specific instruction and assessment sequence" I think this is supposed to be obvious but the question confuses me. Can you clarify what they are looking for? Thanks again.

Yes you need to backwards map your assessments to show the sequence of how you will assess your students. For example if I am teaching ratios I will have mapped out a sequence of assessments that will help me check for understanding and determine students progress towards mastering the standard. Of course you will include the assessments they are requiring you to submit the informal, self assessment and formal as part of your sequence of assessment here.

You’ll be constantly asked about students prior knowledge so it’s a good idea to select a standard in which you can do that (ie don’t pick a standard that students don’t have prior knowledge and skills)
