Sask here, when I imported a Stagea, I did literally 0 to it. I received it from a shipping yard, switched the battery, drove it home and then had it inspected 2 days later and passed. I wasn't entirely sure what they inspect so I knew nothing about the DOT thing that Japanese lights are different and same with the tires, but it passed without me doing anything. My right headlight bulb blew the next day which was lucky but yea. Sask seems to be more slack then Alberta it seems, which sorta makes sense with how different the enforcement is. My speedo was also off by about 20km/h at 100km/h actual speed I learned so 🤷♂️ Probably the first JDM car the guys I went to have ever seen so maybe that played a role. Hopefully the DOT tail light thing isn't actually a thing here or it's gonna be a bitch to import an Evo 9 Wagon since it's incredibly hard to find tail lights for it as it is, ignoring the fact that they are JDM only. Speaking of Stageas, that Stagea near the end was fukin cleeeeeeeaaan
The headlight thing is because in japan the driver side headlight is always angled higher to avoid blinding people in the opposite lane so when you bring it here so essentially gonna blind everyone while driving.
Because they drive on the other side of the road in Japan, the lights are focused slightly different and that's why they need to be changed. Great video!
did you recently get your inspected? if so, can you tell me where? i find a lot of shops won't touch JDMs with a 30 ft pole :/ and the ones that do make it seem like you're gonna fail it even before seeing the car! i have a Z that was already registered and inspected in BC so should be more straight forward here no?
Hi Lowcals, Thank you for the video, it has been a tremendous help. What is your experience with the OOPs in Alberta? The inspectors actually looked for the following during the inspection: - If ALL the lights have a DOT (Department of Transportation) stamp in them? - If all the tires are DOT approved? - If the windshields have AS-1, AS-10 or AS-14 marks on them? - The side windows have AS-1, AS-2, AS-10 or AS-11 marks? Thank you in advance.
Just comes down to a bit of research. You're gonna need DRLs, just jump a fuse to ignition for the inspection DOT head/tail lights is iffy I've seen some pass and some fail. Try to see if a NA model car shares parts that'll work. Ex: People have used prelude headlights on a Skyline, USDM subaru lights on a JDM subaru Some people say that JDM glass fails if it isn't.... I don't even know. If a shop fails you over glass I'd be going to a different shop. I imported my Subaru Legacy in Alberta. OOP failed it for DLRs, head light angle, and it needed brakes all around. I don't know how people manage to get dicked over by OOP's so much. Just do a bit of research on what typically fails on the car you're importing, and then fix it before you go for the OOP.
In Ireland for a altezza I believe it’s like 1500 euro for it to be allowed to be driven then you have to service and pay about 4 grand to 6 to be insured then nct which is an inspection so you get completely fucked
so pretty much if I tune the car I will fail the test? I do have after market front lip and back but not that crazy looking kind, just like TYPE R front lip. I mean come on who buy JDM car but don't tune the car? I just got my sports car end of 2020 and yes I spent lots of money tuned my car. she is still in car shop now she will be ready to drive in Feb . Problem is I think its 100% loud enough to let the popo give me the ticket. But not like those CRAZY loud when people hear it just put hands cover their ears but its loud like those real hyper car sound. my question is I want it to do a car inspection and if I passed , in future if popo stop me for loud sound can I just show them the paper that I passed VI test? so I will be fine forever ?
Idk if it changed in the last year or something but, last year I imported a car and all I needed to do to pass the inspection was do that daytime running lights. So idk if that DOT thing actually matters or some Japanese lights are dot approved. Also the battery thing didn’t effect me mine was fine
