just a tip, you can just use tumbler or anything you will try new that you have not experienced with and make a diagram with lots of squares each one with a different setting so that in one tumbler you have all the settings on it so which ever you like the best with the most detail on that setting you just use that setting for all the rest so you wont have to waste lots of tumblers for no reason....learned that from an actual laser engraver guy on his youtube page ;-)

@dreamkiss4u
@dreamkiss4u Год назад
@josephKEOarthur problem with blue tape is that you will never get a real sense of what it will really look like if you trying to burn something on a different material because other materials don't burn the same so it's best to do a sample of every power setting in the can't type of material your going to be doing it on.

A much easier method of alignment (assuming you move that laser from time to time) would be to measure distances from that convenient targeting dot on your stepper motor to the center of the rotary axis and end of the tumbler and either creating a fixture in your software (if software supports fixturing) or simply aligning the base of the rotary with a square to the laser frame and moving the known distance from the targeting dot to engraving zero. The machine is capable of both measuring and setting exact distances. There is no reason to eyeball it. My two cents. :)

Quick question and not a poke the bear comment but, the last image is definitely not the first image. So, was it more of a poor image selection and not a settings issue? Really want to know how critical image selection is. Thanks!!

I do this for a living right now. You have to do black and white images. The coating is either on or off. No gray scale.

You could have inverted the black and the white and gotten the results you were looking for with the original dragon. Though it would require you to do more work in photoshop/illustrator to frame up/outline it, since it would be removing the background. Just like the second design did.

Hey BDB - what are the rules for mirroring the output and not? I am using the XTool software
@BuildDadBuild
@BuildDadBuild Год назад
You shouldn't need to mirror anything. If you're tumbler engraves are backwards usually that means the rotary is in backwards.

@@BuildDadBuild interesting. On the rollers I have to mirror and on the Chucks I do not. I have the motor in the same position either way, and after watching your videos (BTW I love THEM!!!!) I did not reverse the platform for weight. Thank you for replying!!!!! PJJ

new to the XTool D1 and Also the Build Dad Build channel. I have a 5W version just purchased and learning on. Do you happen to have any good settings you would run for what seems some more thick powder coat? I have some mugs I am working on and the results vary between not able to remove the black residue or by over powering it distorts the image.
@BuildDadBuild
@BuildDadBuild 2 года назад
If the coated metal setting isn't working slow it down for better results. Are you cleaning the tumbler afterwards? Mine always look a little smokey before I clean them up. And check out this video to help with distortion. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vjlu84bEEVo.html Cheers!

One question, what laser is it? I bought the xtool d1 5w but it doesn't graver the tumblers correctly. I have to pass a sponge with which the dishes are washed to clean where the laser passes. The problem is that the tumbler is scraped all over that part.

@@BuildDadBuild I already bought the tumblers from your link and they work perfectly with the 5w laser I guess the others don't work because of the slightly thicker material

Hey I’m just wondering how much faster in real world time you would say that a 10 watt laser is faster then a 5 watt. For example let’s say one 2”x2” logo. What would be the times for both?
@BuildDadBuild
@BuildDadBuild Год назад
The 10W is about x1.5. The 20W is easily twice as fast as the 10, if not faster.

I’m not sure if you will see this, but yeah I ordered a 5 watt because of a great deal and the smaller compression spot. If that’s what it’s called haha, but yeah i didn’t do a lot of research, and wondering if the 5 watt will be too slow for a business just starting. I have no clients or orders if that helps, but I would love your opinion:)

Thanks for the information. I want to purchase a laser engraver, but there is so much information out there it is making that decision difficult to make. Like do I purchase a CNC that is laser capable? Or do I just purchase a laser engraver. Then there is software I like Lightburn and some of these machines don't work with it. Then there is the different wattage lasers. I want a Rotary unit, a laser unit that Lightburn works with and can be upgraded.
