This is not what I want to hear. My two are 20 weeks and this is exactly how I feel and will not be how I live. If they can’t obey the rules they will be living outside.
There’s the spray you can get And it gets rid of sents. They might just do that because there trying to claim that area, and by using the spray it helps calm it down. I heard that could help
My bunny came over next to me and pooped on the rug while I was watching this video! This is my first time owning a rabbit and I'm trying to get used to it cause generally I'm a clean freak at heart. This video helped a lot. Thank you!
@@Katesque I have 7 rabbits. 5 are 100% free roam. All 5 are 100% litter trained. So this proves that what you have said in this video is wrong. Rabbits can be 100% litter trained.
@ellievictoria8402 sorry to correct you, but that just means your rabbits can be trained. There are a wide variety of rabbits out there and many different personalities
My rabbit is free roam and 100% litter trained, I realised pretty quickly this is very unusual. She’s been like this since she was sterilised. I do think that if I’d get her another bunny friend this behaviour would change. Whenever I have people coming over I make sure to tell them not every bunny is like this, Chloé’s an exception 🐰 really enjoyed this video ❤️
My rabbit he isn't neutered yet although he will be this coming year! I got him from my cousin he was an outside rabbit, he is now free roamed in my room but he is clean which I'm surprised. He uses the litter box without litter trained, he does poop sometimes but not much. I'm hoping he will be 100% litter trained when he is neutered
This video needs to be spread around the rabbit community more because there are A LOT of unrealistic expectations being set. Honestly, I wish I had seen this before I got my rabbits so that I knew what to expect at the beginning! So far you are in my top 2 of rabbit care RU-vidrs! Thank you for being willing to open up and show the nitty gritty of what it is really like! Also, I like that you have more than 1 rabbit but you also don't have a ton of rabbits like some of the others, it makes a big difference to someone like me who has 2 rabbits (I feel like 1 rabbit is VERY different than 2 or 3). THANK YOU! ❤❤
Rabbit poop is actually a really good fertilizer for gardens and container plants! Some people sell it at farmers markets near me, so you literally could be making a profit from your rabbits. I use my rabbits dirty bedding (poop+hay) as a mulch for my garden and as a slow release fertilizer in my house plants. Besides them trying to eat everything, they’re a gardeners best friend 🥲
@@ascosche hi before I have 3 bunnies 3 mos.old 1 doe and 2 buck then when they’re 5 mos old the doe got her 1st pregnant i didn’t notice she’s pregnant that time until 1 day I saw her pulling her fur and do nesting so I let her til she gave birth of 7 cuties kits i help her to feed her kits in a bottle with goat milk since she has a bit of milk and so far they’re all healthy kits
My vet told me the same thing. My rabbit pees in the litter box and most of her poo is there too. The litter has an earthy smell. I change her litter every other day
My buns are not perfectly litter trained. I clean up the straggling poops, but they’re quiet good with peeing in the little box. Thank you for sharing the reality side of it and not portraying perfection... the only perfection are those little buns 💗
i also clean my buns when i wake up, i have a year old fixed boy and he just got fixed so he’s still a little hormonal but he always goes pee in the right spot, my oldest bun is also fixed and she’s always been perfect with her litter box from the get go- and my bonded pair are the messiest but it’s nothing i can’t clean with a five minute sweep in the morning. also it’s normal for buns to poop in little odd places while they run/sleep/ sit just bc of how they digest food, normally the poo is scent free and the pee is the issue (don’t even get me started on the smell of unfixed male bunny it is so bad) you’re doing a great job of being transparent with your responsibilities which is needed for ppl that are planning on getting bunnies :)
We really become just a bunch of cleaners for our buns hahaha, I love showing it because people usually try to shy away from it but honestly it's simple, just clean! Oh man, you're so right, unneutered marking is a whole different story xx
My bunny just got fix a week and half. He pees in the litter box but he poops all around still, is it normal? I wonder when I will be able to free-roam him.
@@radadansupasavat9585 he might poop around until he’s had time for the hormones to fade, and remember bunnies digest quickly so they can’t control where the poo comes out- accidents will happen but i promise it becomes easier to control- i only sweep in the morning and right before bed to pick up my buns area and he doesn’t have poops far from his litter box- just keep an eye on your buns bathroom habits and you’ll know when you’re ready for him to run free :)
I'm so glad you mentioned the undesexed male rabbits pee smell. I bring my bunny home in a couple of weeks and he is not desexed. I was planning to see if I could book him into the vet on the day I pick him up. The person who has him now said he wouldn't need to be desexed unless we got a female bunny down the road. But after what I've read and heard I don't think that's right, for multiple reasons and I've just added stinky wee ro the list 😆. Is that true of all male undesexed rabbits?
@@Katesque mine is not neutered yet, he was so good with peeing in his littler, however poop everywhere but trust me I rather poop than pee 100 times, but I just wanna know if there really is a big difference once he’s fixed ?
Thank you for such a realistic video 👏🏼 People need to normalize that animals are messy and that's okay! One of my 2 buns is very territorial of his pen area and leaves poops everywhere. He doesn't like it to be cleaned while he's in there... otherwise he'll attack the dustpan/broom. My other bun is mainly litter trained and seems to only leave a few poops here or there by accident. 🐇🐇 They both definitely got better when they were neutered!
" I am not a bunny owner, my bunny owns me" hehe absolutely!! I also know that is from another video.. My bun totally owns me. 😊😊😊🥰🥰 Also, I am so glad to see that their area looks like that, mine is very similar with all the poops. Hehe. Thank you for sharing!
Toodles never pooped or peed outside her box. She did kick some out when she jumps out. She was a small bun and I had two oversized boxes for her. Empty box every other day seems to be best. Nice set up. Your bunnies look happy.
It is great that you are showing this. When I first got my bunnies, there were some major poop and pee wars before they got bonded. The wars went on for a couple of months, so it was a lot of work to take care of them. Recently, we rearranged their cage and they started to pee outside the litter box in one spot. Thankfully that seems to have resolved. Even now they still poop outside the litter box, but it is much, much better than before (less than 10 poops a day). It is wonderful that you are sharing this. The litter habits are a big part of rabbit ownership (bunnies can have hundreds of poops a day) but the reality doesn't get shared enough.
Do all bunnies owners own a Roomba? Haha 🤣 I also have one for my bunnies room. They are neutered boys, that are definitely bonded. Everyday after work, I have to pick up my bunnies room. They have their good days and their bad days. Happy to see the more realistic side of owning bunnies.
LOL u spoke the truth about bunny , it’s not about cleaning after your bunnies all the times but how much we love our bunnies this sensor the hard work of cleaning after them cos each time we sees our adorable bunny it just don’t matters as long as bunny owners loves theirs . If a person gets tired of cleaning after their bunny probably deep down there’s lack of ❤
Thank you for making this video, I always just thought there was something wrong with my bunny, it's nice to see that she's not alone and that there's nothing wrong with her
Thank you so much for this cute and realistic video. I thought I was losing my mind and everyone else Was doing some thing that I didn’t have the secret to pay generally he’s pretty good but yes his area is a river of Pee and poop outside of the litter box despite neutering....I have around him everywhere except the living room because there’s carpet there and he has been marking it since he moved in so I am restricting access and seeing if that works overtime but I will try putting a litter box where he pees and see if that helps! I love my Bao Bao. This is true. I thought I was losing my mind but it’s just the nature of territorial bunnies…You’re place is adorable and I love your honesty. You’re not disgusting your a great bun-mom! And it takes a lot of heart and patience to love these guys. Don’t get a bunny unless you want to be its servant the rest of your life LOL. ❌⭕️🤙🏽🏝🙏🏻🤷♀️🥰✌🏽
I have several outdoor dwarf sized bunnies. Had one get a severe case of flystrike over night at the beginning of summer. I brought her inside an nursed her back to health. Over this time, we bonded closer than I expected, so shes now our indoor bunny lol. Problem is, shes been used to going where ever. It's been a long process with her but baby steps are happening. Every bunny has such a different personality, its truly amazing ✌❤
I love this video. I recently got a bunny due to his previous Owners preferring a dog over him. He is "litter trained". I can tell you that YES he does pee in the litter box and poops. But he poops all around his play pen and i just literally give it a sweep about 1-2 times a day. I already know this is normal and i dont have to fix anything. I am still gaining his trust, but thanks to his HUGE food motivation its getting a lot easier lol
thanks for your honesty, I'm a new pet owner and various 'glamour bunny' videos made me feel like something was off with my bunnies for not getting ALL their poop into the litter box. I've found it interesting that they they're mostly really good but when changing things around (we've changed the location and size of their ex-pen twice), the following day there's poop eeeeverywhere :'D
Thanks for this honest and refreshing video. I just adopted a pair of bonded rabbits 3 days ago. They are spayed and litter box trained according to what the shelter said. I do find that they use their litterbox for the most part but also poop outside of their litter boxes and in other areas of the pen. It's not what I expected. Luckily now I have and hand vaccum I can use to help with that. Thanks for normalizing it. Found you through looking that issue up and I am now subscribed.
Thank you for making this realistic video! Been pretty clueless on how to litter train my bunnies since it simply doesn't´t seem to work, they´ve lived here for about 2 months for now and it was clear to me right from the start that I´m choosing free roaming. The problem is that even though they do pee mostly in the litter box, yet unlike my cat every now and then they suddenly pee elsewhere. Luckily for some reason they never pee on my bed, neither on the mattress (except occasionally on the one on "their" territory). Also, it´s exactly like you said in here also, the first thing I do in the morning is I clean up their mess (poop everywhere), but it´s a pretty easy and quick job, no problem with that. I´m more concerned about is having visitors, feels kind of awkward to be cleaning up this kind of mess while socialising. But it is what it is, and I´m proud to be a mum/servant for these sweet babies. They are more important to me than the idea of pleasing other people with a perfectly clean house. Having bunnies is a lifestyle and if it takes a little extra cleaning then we just have to deal with it. The bathroom door I keep closed so that there´s at least one place in the house that doesn't´t have to be cleaned everyday.
Just adopted a little 3 months rabbit! Unfortunately he was kept in a cage but on the other hand he knows where to go poop and pee. He's with me for about 3 days and I only picked up around 10 poops and no pee ✨
The funnest thing that I've experienced so far is I got down on my rabbit's level down on the floor and she just kept hopping circles around me over and over she definitely had me laughing
Did I get lucky with my bunny? Because I trained my bunny to poop and pee in their litter. Her cage is pretty big and at this point it’s just a huge litter box. She sleeps on my bedside table and sometimes on my bed. She started doing that a week after I got her. It’s so cute because when it’s time to go to bed, she gets on the bed and goes over the bedside table. She stays there the entire night and gives me company. I ended up making a ramp to make her go up and down. It’s fascinating. I’m glad my bunny is like this.
My handheld vacuum is the MVP. She helps me suck up all the poop pellets and fur that my bunny leaves behind. She pees in the box (and the one time she didn’t, she was sick), but leaves a few territorial poops under the bed so that we know that space is hers. Otherwise, she’s generally pretty good about her litter habits!
Hey Kat thanks for the upload. It can be an individual thing. Some are very good and others not as diligent! Hope your doing okay during this latest lockdown. Please take care.
I use vinegar for pee. Works perfect. Also, I've noticed, the more I clean the cleanier they tend to be. But I'm sure I'll always find some poop and pee here and there. It doesn't bother me because the poop doesn't smell and can be used for gardening, there are robot cleaners, which make a huge difference and with easy cleaning surfaces it's not a big deal. If people can't stand it, they'll stop visiting, I prefer my bunnies. Maybe I'll find myself farmer friends 🥰
I adopted Thurberi, so he was already litter trained when I got him. (He was living in foster.) He's not territorial at all, but sometimes still leaves little poops around, presumably as just accidents since rabbits have such active digestive systems. Honestly he's pretty good, though. He lives in his own little room that I have a large washable pee pad (it's more like a big absorbing blanket) over the carpet of. He leaves way more stray hairballs around than poop, I think. I guess I'm pretty lucky.
I loved your video the true reality because I have a bunny and he is trained but poop is everywhere when I get up in the morning I feel so relax that it’s not only my rabbit they are different from each other’s so just clean clean all the time lol
LOVE THIS! I absolutely love the castle. I live in Gippsland and am definitely going to be getting one of these. I checked out his instagram, how cool are some of the set ups and toys.
Thanks for sharing! Its been two days since we recieved our little bunny. OML, I didn't know they poop so much! I wish I had seen your video earlier. All the videos I've seen, had litter trained bunnies.....or it looked like they did through camera edits 😆. Now I dont feel so stressed about not being able to litter train our 4week old bunny....i guess its still too young and its not neutered/spayed?.... he or she is our very first pet😊...so cute! Thanks again! Love your videos
Yes! Definitely still very young, so hoping it gets better for you because it did for me (even if it doesn't look like it haha they used to be a lot worse) xx
Not bunny related.... but where are your slippers from?! They're so cute!!!!!!! (but this video is great and I love the way you share the real experience of having buns vs expectations)
I've also owned several rabbits and their pooping habbits are SO different. OxO Some are only accidental outside the litter box, some totally can't be bothered. Peeing outside is more accidental, I gotta say my bunny now does often communicate that he's pissed off about smth this way. He also likes to pretend his butt is so heavy, he can't lift it to jump into the litter box to poop there, the lil' rascal. XD
My dwarf rabbit gets overwhelmed in new spaces, esp large ones. When i moved i set her up in a large pen (enough space to run and hide) in the corner i planned to have her litter box/food&water bowl. Once she’s settled (~a few days) i open up the pen for her to free roam, adding one room a time. My little girl then associates that area as her home base and where she can poop and eat meals. Honestly she’s amazing at her litter training - she’s 2yr old and neutered which makes it easier, but also every bunny is different. She still has accidents and territorial poops but that’s part of being a pet owner.
My bunny's version of litter training is she uses the litter box but when I forget to put the fence up to keep her in the other room, she seizes the opportunity to wee on my pillow or duvet while i am sleeping:) There is some poo's around her litter box tho. It must be harder because you have more than 1 I imagine
I have 2 bunbuns and they mostly poop in their littler box. There will be some stray pooples here and there sometimes on our rug, but really not that much. I also pick them op with my bare hands lol, it's great to see a RU-vidr do that as well for a change xD. I also own a robot vaccuum cleaner and I love it :p. It's cleaning my house as we speak xD.
I haven't had my rabbit very long but I've noticed one issue is it seems like we're all using litter boxes that are too small the rabbits can't stretch out in the Box while they're eating I'm going to search for something larger probably bigger than what people use for a cat my rabbit is medium-sized like yours
I have a 2 y/o male bun and he is pee trained but may have an accident if he's very sleepy. We were cuddling and he peed on me and I think it was because he was warm and comfy. He is poop trained depending on where we are. I've lived a lot of places and some he would poop everywhere and some places he'd never poop outside his litter box it seems to depend on what smells there are. I reccomend ppl buy a shop vac for vacuuming up hay and poop since it is easy to disassemble and clean so its sanitary and won't get clogged.
I’m getting a rabbit in about a week, I’m scrambling the internet for bunny tips and tricks that I might not have known just so I’m not totally lost haha- I’m quite nervous because I have a habit of getting discouraged if an animal doesn’t feel completely okay with being around me. I just tell myself that it’s normal and you have to remember what the rabbit would be thinking at that moment, I’m already clear on how hard having a rabbit can be and I’m ready for the challenge! One question though, I noticed that some of the clips mentioned a Roomba. I have one, but I don’t want my bun to be freaked out in the process of hearing a vacuum during cleaning! Will they get used to it?
I'm pretty grateful my bunnies are much better with this.. I have 2 and I basically have a play pen (like the brown and cream one on amazon) and I put their litter box in there with 2 stray matts since for some reason they LOVE pooping on it, soo their poop just stays in there and i clean it up many times a day, when they pee like on the bottom of it, it just is liquid so I can jsut grab a wipe and it's cleaned in less than a minute, sometimes there is a few pieces not in their litter pen but I just vacuum it up :)
Are they fixed? I've read that having a rabbit fixed can make them easier to litter train because they become less territorial. I say I've read because mine aren't fixed and they aren't verry good at going in the litter box every time.
Uhg. I have two flemish giants who are around 20 weeks old and what you just showed is exactly the situation i have. I am not excited about what you just showed because my bunnies are going to be 30-40 lbs each. I have to clean every single day and when they get full grown I am really not interested in that. Thanks
yay okay I really enjoyed this video, first time bunny mommy annnnd my bunny playboy 🐰 it’s getting better at peeing in the litter box just not his poop, I need a Luther in my life thank you for this video beautiful ✨
Wow, thank you so much for this! But I have a question- Both my bunnies live together in a playpen in my carpeted outdoor porch. They aren't litter trained (although I put a litter box in their favorite corner), and there is bunny urine in the carpet and I'm not sure what to do about it. I have had them awhile and it's out of hand at this point. I sweep and vacuum every Wednesday and Sunday, but the urine is still in the carpet. Should I deep-clean the carpet every day and sweep their poops into their litter tray? I'm so sorry this is so long, but I'm struggling :')
Thank you so much for this video it’s true I thought I was a bad bunny owner my bunnies are litter trained and fix but they still poop everywhere they don’t really P on the floor but they poop balls out there but they can’t help it and all these other RU-vidrs make it sound like they’re rabbits don’t poop Maury rabbit RU-vid or should you just kind a video
Idk but my bunny poops everywhere I mean I clean after him after every 5 minute whenever I try to roam him around the house I feel like it’s bad idea as am just cleaning after him . Even after trying all tips around on RU-vid I feel like it’s just hopeless for my bunny . He is just too small for being neutered . Well i think it’s natural for them to be messy I accept it atleast am glad their poops are dry and easy to clean
I would love to know where you get the hay racks from to hang above the litter box! I'm planning to create a similar set up for my bun and i like the idea of having an open area for their litter box and hay! (*u*)/
i adopted my rabbit when she was 3 months old and i put her litter box in the corner of the cage where she pees but she will poop everywhere in her cage but not anywhere else in the house
Have a bigger litter boxes. One litter box per Bunny. where you can put the bowl for pellets And veggies inside the litter box and they can eat in the litter box. They can only eat there that's the only area. I see that your bunny eats outside the litter box move everything inside the litter and the water near the litter box anything to do with eating and drinking must be at the same area. Spray water with vinegar in areas where they have accidents. In worst case. Perfume. They hate perfume. My bunny stops chewing and peeing where I sprayed perfume at that area. So play the scent. Have their distinct scent on the same area for eating and pooping ( the landmark is the litter box) and everything else has a different scent.
It doesn’t seem like she’s asking for advice lol. Just sharing the reality of raising her bunnies. In the video you can see she has at least 3 large litter boxes with high sides. It’s completely normal for bunnies to jump out of their box with hay in their mouth and continue eating and pooping outside the box. Or jump in and out before they’re completely done. She also explained she has 3 males that are territorial. It’s unrealistic to expect any pet to never have any accidents especially bunnies 😅
My problem is my rabbits choice place is our couch. He only peed and poops on the couch. It's so frustrating. He was a lost bunny though who we believe is not fixed so we are gonna do that but I am hoping it helps. It's a lot. We clean it constantly and it never gets better.
Such an honest video about rabbit ownership. I saw millions of litter training videos on rabbits and throughout my experience I can say for sure that rabbits can't ever be litter trained .And your house will smell like a shit hole. So when my baby boy simba 🐱 (he is a pure bred semi punch face Persian cat) was gifted to me ,it changed everything about my rabbit behavior because my 🐱 cat would chase the bunny endlessly around the house and eventually I had to give my bunny away. 😔. But now Simba is king of the house and he has perfect litter trained mannerisms. I no longer have to come home from work and scout about for pee srain or 💩 poop. Everything is in its place. We are happiest when we chill out together watching RU-vid videos 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
A hand held vacuum is life changing. I got my rabbit as a 2.5 year old rescue and she took 6 months to pee train, it was awful buuuut now she’s free roam and barely poops outside. Just got a new bunny and am going to have to start the process over. Like I said, a $40 hand vacuum will change your poop picking up life 😂
