I think another unspoken advantage of the jump hook swing is its immediacy. It is attacking WHILE in movement. If you press attack normally you will stand still or take a small step and swing. If you are sprinting you will lunge forward, which is the movement, than land at a spot and stand still to attack. In both of these scenarios, the moment you actually swing you are standing still. If you dash and swing, the dodge hook as you call it, the movement and swing are two separate dynamics as well. This creates a small delay in the moment you attack, at least compared to a jump hook swing. When two duelists are dancing around each other using dodges, there are moments when a jump slash can cut in for some extra damage. The best timing can make the obvious running towards you to jump routine go away.

Wait I have a question- I’m a new sub so idk if you normally respond to questions but anyone else please feel free to help me lol🥲. You said to turn off aim assist..That’s the first I’ve heard that, when exactly should aim assist be off? For hvv and showdown or just strictly for when we’re trying to do these maneuvers? I’m not new to the game but I’m new to all these fancy moves lol.

@@Empathy808 No problem and no worries at all! Glad it was able to help and yes I would love to help you out. Yeah, I would recommend turning off aim assist when dueling when you're a saber hero. I know that helps me perform not only hook swings better, but just helps me overall in my camera movement. Although, I have heard that some people actually prefer it on, but from my experience it seems like most people including me duel better with saber heroes with aim assist turned off. (Short Answer: I would say to have aim assist off as you play as saber users in HVV & HS). Hope this clears some things up!

I remember watching this for the first time dude and learning each type of hook this is one of the most effective tutorials I thought I’d leave a suggestion if your still making BF2 content if you might be able to make another one of these on lung hooks and animation cancels generally for the more experienced player base yk

This is a really well done video; sadly this is right up there with the “Finn glitch” as exploits why this game died even faster then it was. Hook swings are very much a thing but were never an intended mechanic of the game. Nowadays the “meta” is just to choose high mobility characters, gang up & spam inputs & hookswings and clog up the input stack and just reap the hit detections.

I’ve been playing the game for while and I am definitely a good duelist, I rarely EVER get hit with a hook swing (literally about never). I think it’s cause I’m alwaysss dodging like a mad man and being extremely unpredictable in where I’m going to dodge (could be wrong and peeps on Xbox could just suck). I also try to be unpredictable everywhere tho, and I prioritize not getting killed over getting eliminations a lot in hvv. A lot get first place or a “good” score at the end by doing a lot of damage but the fucker still died about just as much as he killed ,the enemy team wins by eliminating you and dwindling the number of lives your team has. I swear bro, MOST games I have 15-20something elims and at most 3-4 deaths. So I did a lot for the team by not dying(losing our lives)and getting good amount of elims but somehow some shit head who died 10 fucking times got first place. Just seems a lil weird that I’m being more efficient than my entire team yet they scoring higher. Not saying I never get 1st 2nd or 3rd, I get it a good amount but it’s definitely whack sometimes that a dude who died so much (causing us to lose) got first place lol. People need to at least need to be more thinking “I shouldnt go fucking commit suicide every time I spawn and not be defensive along side with my aggression”

Of course! Grievous is one of those heroes that does the jump hook swing better at close range compared to a farther jump swing, so he's one I would get close to and then just quickly jump and turn while swinging. He's one of those that have to be fast. Here's a sucky example, but hopefully this can give you an idea. (12:55) The idea is there, it's just that the opponent I was going against knew how to counter jump hook swings. If he stayed blocking it would've connected. Remember you just want to barely tap the jump button, so that it's quick. You almost want to do something like this (1:49), but you want to be going towards them and turn 180 degrees while turning. Hope this helps.

It's the same button. You just have control over the jump by how long you press the jump button. For example, to do a shorter jump you just barely tap the jump button, but to do a normal jump attack at the peak height you want to hold the jump button. Hope this helps. So for the different types of swings like dash swing, standing swing, hop swing, regular jump swing, etc; is there a swing that does more damage than the others? Like hypothetically if I’m using Luke and knock someone on the ground, should I be using a dash swing or jump swing to land the hit before they get up to maximize damage?

The only time that damage is a factor is where you strike them, the front or the back. You deal more damage hitting them in the back and the damage will depend on the character. You also want to try to do the fastest move/fastest animation that way you may be able to get in another hit which will deal more damage. Hope this clears your question up and helps!

Jump attacks are things I always struggle with and therefore think they’re too risky to pull off Then again I can’t exactly get good practice in since I go against AI when practicing and they seem to alway block your attacks even if you dodge behind them at lightning speed So getting through that block is the trickiest part for a hook swing to me Tho I may also be jumping to high and from to far away I’m alright at dodge hooks tho Ability hooks not so much

Jump attacks just come in time through practice. Just start doing nothing but jump attacks and you'll start to get the hang of it. I believe in you. I totally see what your saying about the saber uses for AI. They can be annoying sometimes when trying to practice certain maneuvers because it's not like they vary in playstyle. Good to hear that you got the doge hooks down though. As for ability hooks just takes practice as well. You can also practice on infantry if you think that may help you. Plus, I completely agree with you when jump attacks are risky, but I personally really like them when your opponent is also jumping/in the air. That way you can punish them. Good luck practicing and may the force be with you always.

@@TheGrayJedi from what I’ve seen from Reysious, jump attacks are really good In a 2v1 and considering the amount of people that tend to gang up on you in this game I wanna be able to handle 2v1s effectively most times And from what I’ve seen pressuring a singular weaker opponent while avoiding the other one is the way to go about that My only real problem is dealing with block spammers considering I’m a defensive player myself who relies on parrying and avoiding attacks Tho it feels incredibly satisfying handling 2v1s by parrying a couple angry saber spammers to death and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t influenced to try it on 4 opponents in HVV Handling higher sensitivity is also a bit of a problem but I have gotten used to playing from the low low sensitivity of 30 all the way up to 80 but I’m nervous to go all the way due to the fact that I play on ps5

See, parrying is badass, but I actually despise hook swinging. Not because I can't do it. In fact, your video showed me that I can do it right (thanks for that), but it doesn't look Star Wars, and it can't really be countered. It's just a few hops and the game ends. I don't enjoy that.

I see you. I don't really like this move in particular just because it really does rely on the games bad hit detection, so the move itself is just overrated and not really that effective in my opinion. I really don't like the fact that is really exposes the bad hit detection just like tons of other bugs that work like the 4 hit frenzy, but it's a part of the game and pretty controversial. At least to me.

@@TheGrayJedi Yo thanks for the response, and I agree. I think exploiting the game can be very boring. However, in Battlefront, you have to be able to exploit back to beat said exploiting. My primary annoyances aren't even lightsaber characters, and I usually end up getting sick of Iden Verizon or Leia for their violent DPS in team modes. So I can get over it, I'm just not fond. I would say never go by the levels. They're deceiving. Go off of how you're performing, so for me I notices it when I just started to destroy basically everyone in my path. lol. You'll start to sin almost all of your matches. Hope this answers your question. I say that because there are extremely bad max level players and really good level 8 players, so it just depends.

What sensitivity number is best?

It honestly depends on the player. You want to find what works best for you. Mostly with these types of movements you want a higher sensitivity, so for like me I'm at max which is 100, but it's different for each individual player. You want to do what is comfortable/effective. What I did to work up to it was to move the sensitivity up in increments of 5 starting from the default I was at. Hope this answers your question and helps you out. So long answer short, there's really no right answer to that question, but if you can get comfortable with 100 and be effective then that can give you an edge.

@@Unknownrandomdude Just takes a bit of practice. It really relies on the bad hit detection, so it may help to go a bit past your opponent. I would just try and do nothing but that for a few matches until you get the gist of it. Hope this helps.

That is why I think the entire system is built on bugs. Other than the lack of tutorial or any form of guidebook of this complicated system, there are a lot of bugs that preventing the system from working correctly. For example, you can't attack or use ability on the way down in a jump, and sometimes when you try, the ability or attack will get delayed to when you have landed, sometimes not letting you change the direction, making you vulnerable and wasting stamina and an ability. Also when you press multiple times of the attack button, the game will force you to perform at least two attack animations, which is really annoying especially against a roll spammer. There is also no indication about where and when your hit detection will land, so sometimes a hook works and sometime it doesn't for no good reason by the look on the screen. I hope there will be a proper system if this game actually have a sequel. By the way I can't possibly play the trooper modes with 100% sensitivity. That is one of the big problems.

the thing I dont understand about jumpswings is that in order to do one you have to let go of the block button and literally jump which leaves you open to get hit. whenever someone tries jump attacking me I literally just parry them to death

The thing with jump hooks is knowing the correct time to pull one off me personally I bait the opponent I run round them to make them waist there dashes then I go for a hook if I'm using someone with nice combos I will hook saber throw choke I play aggressive but when I attack I hold the block an attack every couple seconds so I can parry if needed personally hooks can be very useful but I make use of alot of bf2 trick like holding block when I'm going for a hook because of the timing glitch if your opponent goes to hit you in the air as your trying to hook them an your holding the block if you just leave the floor an they attack you can block them in air or even parry them in air which is quite fun anyway love the vid very useful but I do have a couple tricks to combat some hook swing faults

Hook swing is only just jumping behind your oponent. Hence the name. Why would dash ”hooks” be called ”hook” swings when you dont hook to snything

That's not true. Do you know what a hook means? You're hooking around you're opponent, meaning you're like curving around. The word hook has no relation to jumping.

There's tons of things to do and it depends on their play style as well as their character. You're best bet is to combine the different things you learn. I personally like parries and the dash hook. That typically works on most players. Hope this helps.

@@jcarmy5808 It honestly just comes down to practice because with that practice you'll learn a lot of different play styles and pick up on the best ones for how you play. I mean there's ton's I could give and that's why I'm going to continue making videos on them, but the best thing I can say for you to beat pros and get better is by practicing. I know you probably already knew that, but honestly that's the best way to go about it.

I respectfully disagree because I've done it with both. (Aim Assist on and less than 90% sens). In fact the hooks swings that are shown in this video are done w/aim assist on just because I forget to take it off most of the time. LOL! It is much easier with a higher sensitivity, but you can pull it off with something a bit lower than 90.

I wouldn't say that. I can see that with the jump hook swings, but not normal hook swings. Even it is or not I still wanted to give my take on it, and show how to defend against them. I think I made it clear in the video that I think they're stupid and that I agree that it's an exploit since it uses the bad hit detection.
