Yo thank you for this, I literally could not pet my Joey, but with this tip I was able to give her some good love and hopefully help her realize I’m not a threat
Thank you!!! He is my fifth glider so far so I thought I'd show bonding/handling as I think it's one of the tougher things about sugar gliders. Definitely carry her around as much as you can in a pouch and definitely purchase a tent and do tent time with her as much as possible. I've been slacking lately w/ tent time w/ him. He is more resistant to bonding than my females.
Just get bit a few times but always pet and handle the sugar glider, I used to even get a sock when I first had my sweet boy of 11 years, and I’d have to wear that at first😂, overtime he stopped crabbing and got used to me touching him, by the time that was all over he already was used to kisses on his little nose 😫❤️.
Im up out on my back deck with wild gliders, they are friendly timid but one jumped onto my hand on request so... I dunno but they're just amazing. I'm the keeper of Honey peanut butter they don't bite..
@@blahblah3726 We looked around social media for any for sale and bought them from a lady I don’t think you could buy them from a store but I’m an amateur so I’m not for sure!
@@marlon363 I knew it! lol. I don't think the bites hurt but they can make you bleed if they try hard enough. Still, they are pretty small. Nothing like a snake bite or dog bite or anything like that. Many say they stink. I don't think so, but I like their smell. Many people hate the smell of them and say they smell really bad. In my opinion, using aspen shavings as their bedding gets rid of 90% of any negative smell associated with having them.
@@marlon363 About the age, I personally suggest only getting a baby because it's hard to bond with older. However, I know older can be cheaper or even free, and it's possible to get a sweet older one. It's just more of a crapshoot whereas getting a baby is pretty guaranteed they'll bond with you IF you pay a ton of attention to them in the first months. It HAS to be immediate attention. The cons... hmmm. #1: They will ALWAYS be aggressive with you in the beginning. They make scary noises and can scare many people. A lot of people get rid of their gliders because they are afraid of the way they behave in the beginning. #2: They move weird. They are squirrely. People expect to be able to treat them like dogs when in reality they will treat you like a tree. I feel it's similar to a way a bird treats its owner. It will climb on you as it pleases, stop where it wants. #3: They have sharp claws. Unless you clip their nails (which can be stressful), they will scratch you up with their nails. #4: They are small and can easily climb into things that can kill them. They can fall in your toilet. They can climb into a gallon jug of water. Supposedly refrigerators kill them. You have to take a lot of precautions to try and not have them near items that can kill them.
@@suggiedaddyi have sugar gliders, and once brought them to the vet for a nail trim and the vet told us that once they had someone bring in a glider for a nail trim and it bit through the vets finger 😅
So cute ❤❤❤❤❤ aww aww aww aww ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ love him or her ❤!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤ i have 2 and one is a girl and one is a boy and the girl is pregnant !! We think she is haveing twins we are so happy 😊!!!!!!!!!!
I had a boy and girl and my boy never bit me ive never owned gliders the girl always hell fire to touch pet anything food was the key then worms i trained her to ride my back jump in the worm big get her worm and go back in her cage i lost my male to unknown reason so ive just rehomed a new boy and they fought allot now they have bonded but he is still like screw me so thanks for sharing
Untamed really just means that they aren't as used to human contact as any other domestic animal like a cat or dog. If you have a pet, you should have some way to touch it, at the very least to provide medical care when needed. Much easier to show your pet that you aren't a threat while they're healthy, and gaining the trust you need to touch them normally on a regular basis
@@kilxua547 ohhh yesterday? Plenty of time. My advice is to use the pouch that he hangs out in in the cage. Tomorrow while he is sleeping, just grab the pouch he's chilling in and hold it with you. Don't bug him too much at the beginning. Do you know how old he is?
Ohh a bit old. Is he neutered? Def get him neutered if not. Then, just try to put that pouch on you and try to entice him to come out with yogurt treats.
It doesn't hurt if they bite the back of your hand or knuckles because they can't get a grip on it with their teeth like they can with your finger. You'll have to be prepared to get bit though. Most will bite you at least once.
I don’t care nothing about what this bitch thinks. I’m feed my pet whatever she mad at a guy who guy his pets fruits. These animals will eat anything so imagine them in the wild. Don’t listen to this bitch obviously make sure they get some level of healthy food. You’re good with your carrots and some other things. She serving them gives bowls each that’s you. It doesn’t have to be. Everybody else. Tf the weight of the glider matters two it’s not one size fits all.
