Hiya Trevor many thanks, the main frequency you need is the nato low level as they use this when they drop into low level, also Litchfield and Daventry corridors and West icf. If you look in the files sections on any of the Facebook groups you'll see all the frequencies
Hi Steve I've never been wound love to go I'm only in Shrewsbury,do you have postcode wheres best to park and where to go , camera setup big help ,I would be going on Wednesdays my day off you mentioned scanner ,it tells you what's coming what scanner do you use ,do you have any videos of it please 👌
Hello there, I don't have post codes as your in the middle of countryside, camera settings depend on the light on the day but shoot shutter priority @ 500th - 100th f5. 6 - f8 and auto iso and you'll be fine, I use the uniden 3500xlt scanner but the 125 is also good
Hi Paul many thanks, iv also got another video on called a guide to the locations, all the spots are there, check it out. As for best time, I'm afraid it's just turn up and hope for the best, iv had lots of blanks, but it's all worth it when you get a good day. Most people up there use scanners and will tell you when something is coming 👍👍
I haven`t ever been to Mach Loop I have climbed the Snowdon Horseshoe when I was younger but not over brilliant with heights so although I completed it it was a challenge .In your videos I have seen you mentioned some you dont have to go very far to get decent shots
Great info and great results. I wouldn't have confidence in a shutter under 500th with my ability..probably much more. How are you exposing? What metering? Centre weighted? It's just that as thecolanes are in the sky and move over a dark landscape won't the camera expose differently?
Hello there yes I use centre weighted metering, I use single focal point and let the camera adjust the shutter speed, one shot could be 1./320th and the next frame could expose at 1/800th, by doing it this way you've always got correct exposure..
@@onemanandhisdogphotoadvent1242 I have been using a similar approach for wildlife. Aperture Priority. I set ISO and the camera sets the shutter. However, with fast planes where you probably need a fast shutter I was thinking why not use Manual. Set your aperture and your shutter speed manually so you know what you are getting, and then use Auto ISO so the camera exposes correctly? Then you know what shutter speed you are getting. You are probably experienced enough to know the conditions and light. So probably doesn't matter but the risk is, if it suddenly goes dark in aperture priority, your shutter speed will drop right down and you will get blurry images?
Yes I get what your saying about the shutter speed drop pin really low but I'm fine with panning at 1/100 sec, if you set a high shutter speed in manual, you'll need a very wide aperture like f2. 8 - f4 so not all the jet will be sharp and your iso will go way over 800 and be horribly grainy, what I would say to you is practice your panning and use slower speeds, your images will look so much nicer with motion blur
The only time I set shutter speed is for props and usually around 1/80th sec, again I'm fine with panning that slowly. Its really hard to get the confidence to go that low, just keep practicing.
Hi Steve thanks for this video it has given me the inspiration to return soon. I was their just a couple of weeks ago for three days from 7.30am - 5pm and didn't see a single F15. I was on CAD West, would you suggest trying both or is one better than the other, not taking the benefits of the car park at CAD East lol. Thanks again
Hi Ian yes get back up there, I have had so many blanks over the years iv lost count but just love being up there. Location wise, I just think about what kind of shots i fancy on the day then pick a hill to get what I want, they're all good locations
Quick question, I’m planning a trip from Queensland Australia next year and want to come shoot the Mach Loop while I’m over there. Is there a time, month that would be best to catch some action and would you be interested in being my guide when I get to the loop. I’d be shooting with an R3 and a 300mm 2.8 so hope to get some good shots??
Hi Phil there's no published timetable and it is pot luck if you see anything, having said that, most days Monday to Friday get jets through so you should get some jets. If you need a guide I can do that for you, if your on Facebook, find me on there and add me.
Hi I'm looking to get in to the aviation photography side as I do go to air shows did use my phone but think its time to trade up. Looking for some advice and recommendations on what camera to go for ?? The 3 I been told look at are the Canon EOS R Canon R6 or the Sony Alpha A7 III. What are people's thoughts ?? The two Brand are mainly Canon or Sony I prefer the Full Frame an Mirrorless side. Got a budget £2000 in the UK
Hello there to be honest any of those cameras will do a fantastic job but what I would say is get the best lens you can afford with about 400 - 600mm reach. Good luck with your quest 👍👍
cracking shots Steve 🙂 the fastest thing I photograph is the tide, but enjoyable video nonetheless! how is Betsy with the jets? Dexter doesn't like loud noises at all.
She's fine Nick, she barks as she hears them so we know they're coming then chases them across the hill, she loves it up there. I gotta admit, I'm in need of a few waves 😊
Hi Steve. Sorry to hear about your gippy back. I hope it recovers ;-) Lovely photos and videos btw. A quick question. You mentioned using a scanner to monitor the approaching aircraft. Is that an air band wireless or a phone app ? Thanks.
Hiya bud many thanks, yea i use the uniden 3500 with a Watson antenna, it's a fantastic scanner and the nice thing with the 3500 is you can set alarms on frequencies, for eg, put a beep on the nato low level frequency, that way if you don't hear what they say you still know they're entering low level cos you know it's that frequency that's activated. Hope this helps.
Wow Steve, amazing shots, sometimes I practice panning at a small airport by my house, nothing as fast as the fighter jets, just a small Cessna or Piper, but it's good practice, I use similar settings as you but I don't know which focusing method you use, I'm usually on continuous tracking, are you doing the same or because of the distance you just focus on infinity, the other question is......, do you need to use the image stabilization on the camera (or the lens).
Hi Enrique yea I use continuous focus and single point so I know I'm on the jet, if the shutter speed is above 500th sec I don't use stabilisation. I do love shooting these jets and love watching Betsy chase them across the hill 😁
@@onemanandhisdogphotoadvent1242 Thank you for the prompt reply Steve. Speaking of Betsy, I forgot to ask you if she was crying (in the beginning of the video) because you were ignoring her and just paying attention to the jets🤣

@@onemanandhisdogphotoadvent1242 some of your photos are below 400 of the seconds way to low and im not talking about background but about planes. Planes fly about 500mph so your shutter speed on level below 400 is ridiculously slow. But video is great thanks
