I'm about to buy a glider and your comments have been definitive in the final decision. The wonder of RU-vid and people like you who give of their time and expertise. Thanks heaps.

Great video and great advice. I recently bought a new wing with more spice. But due to your video and 2 months out due to the Corona Virus, I will stay a few more hours and squeeze my EnB as much as possible before going up. Thank you and keep on with this great channel

Great video Ari, I am brand new in the sport and just completed by PG2 in Australia. I ended up buying the wing which was new I used on course a NOVA PRION 4, I will be flying both coast and inland and I am towards the upper weight range which I like. One thing my instructors mentioned (One being ex world champion) which is something others should consider is that the wings in the last year or so in EN-A class have the same performance as the wings they used in XC world championships 14 years ago. Huge advancement in the technology of wing design in the last few years. Just because the wing has a safety rating of EN-A does not always mean its going to be awesome to fly. And most importantly have fun with.

This is a great point Hamesh! The technology has opened up the range of conditions that we can fly in and how much we can enjoy the edges of those ranges for sure.

Hi, very good video and great advise, your comment on at least 100 hrs for A class has comfirmed my decision that I should buy my own wing and not rely on club/school kit. And as I'm 62 now, by the time I get 100 hrs, I may want to stay on A class, now it is just a case of getting an A that will take me all the way through. Thanks.

I done 60hrs on my first glider (bgd epic) then moved on to my current glider (bgd base) now at 120+ hours in one year. Would love to get the BGD Cure2 but I'm so happy with my Base I'm in no rush. I love the challenge of xc but I love keeping the love of flying more. I think it's about remembering why we do it more than pushing so hard all the time for performance. If your happy in the air...you'll go further. If your on edge all the time youll find yourself wanting to be on the ground.

I totally agree man, there are so many reasons to not rush stepping up wings. I'm at 1200hrs, tons of acro training and I'm still on a C! Those 2-liners are really calling me though! lol

I've done my license about one year ago. Got an Nova Ion as my first wing. That thing was heavy (did a lot of h&f), so I got a Skyman heartbeat (Mid B). After a few month and a lot of full bar flying I wanted something that's more stable in speed (and light of course). So I got a Skyman Crossalps (C glider) which I'm very happy with. A lot of pilots try too measure experience in hours or something. But I see a lot of pilots who habe been flying for years and hundreds of hours but are bad at active piloting.

@@AriintheAir Not enough for an C wing 😉 had under 100 hours under my Bs before upgrade into the C category. I've been flying that one for the last 7 months and about 100 hours. No unmanageable incidents (few smaller asymmetrics)

Hey man, love you videos. I just moved to Northern Colorado from California and have always been interested in paragliding and now that I have a career I’m ready to start making some moves on it. I’ve never tried it out but I’ve watched hundreds of hours of RU-vid videos and want to take it really slow. I don’t know what type of glider I’ll need and I was hoping you could share your thoughts or resources to find out what class I’ll need or steps in the right direction.

I love you so much. I'm learning to fly and it's an epsilon 9 for me sir. I just don't have the money to switch wings every time I gained a little weight lose a little weight let a fart. I believe there's a lot to be said for an old man that learned when he was old and knew that he was going to fly one thing from the start of his career as a pilot or payload, till the end. I think I will make videos of me flying and some of them will be me hanging in my harness crying, in front of a green screen. Ari doesn't like me because I'm old and fat so I have to fly heavy on the great big wing. He wouldn't tell me how the land so I had to do a bunch of equations and it's all my fault because I cheated in math class.

Nice video. One thing I do have to say is B Stall isn't good for your glider. It puts a lot of stress on your glider and their are much better ways to loose altitude. Big ears plus bar, big ears and spiral etc.

Hey man thanks for the info. I'm brand new and just starting to learn about this sport. I'm 5'11 and 195 lbs. I don't care about ego. I want something safe and that I can learn on. I live on the Big island of Hawaii and have talked to pros and they said this is a difficult place to learn so definitely want safety to be a priority. Any wing suggestions. Also what does the length of the wing control. Bigger equals safer? Or faster? Trying to learn before I take the next step. Thanks man🤙 oh I forgot. I would eventually like to get a paramotor. I've heard of universal wings that you can use for both. Are they any good? Can you recommend one? Thanks!

Hey Ari, very nice videos. I have a question, I've been flying for 3 years total, 2 of them in a low B (ozone geo 5), Now I want to upgrade to a Uturn Vision (high B) the thing is that in the XS size (up to 85 kg) I'd be flying rigth on top of the certified weight range. And in the next size (starting from 80 kg) I feel that I'm gonna be flying kind of light. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot.
@GVTSounds
@GVTSounds 3 года назад
I would personally fly most gliders at the top of the weight range unless you're going to be flying in very light conditions, i think most pilots would agree with this generally, but also See what the manufacture says about the specific gliders though.

Hey, i got a question. I'm gonna take a course next year, but I wanna go there already owning gear(I know this is frowned upon, but I think i can make a good decision beforehand, safe a bunch of money and get to learn with my equipment and as far as i know, the schools around me don't really use ozone wings, which is what i wanna get). My decision is between the mojo pwr and the spyder 3. I would love the option to learn 2D steering when i feel like it and go a bit faster with the spyder 3 (+it's supposed to be more lightweight and easier to inflate), but I can't judge how much safer the mojo pwr is. Can you safely fly the mojo in conditions where you can't safely fly the spyder? If that's the case, I'd go with the mojo.
@DreamWorldPortals
@DreamWorldPortals 7 месяцев назад
I won't agree with the weight range advice. Being at the lower range maybe never is a good idea as the glider is harder to steer and you are more passenger when it gets turbulent. See, i am a beginner at the moment but this is what i learned and it makes sense. I flew the Mescal L right at the top range of 115 kg. My plans are stepping up to maybe bgd epic2 ML being at the top range, too.

I would think you should focus less on the pilot learning to fly better and more and earning a better glider and focus more on the conditions where the pilot will fly. Then after you look at the conditions where he intends to fly the most. look at the pilot and his purpose. I intend to fly here on as many ridges as I can get access to . First I will watch get all the height I can. Soar. Try and look for ridges and lift and fly home. It would be marginal lift at best where I live. I think the epsilon 9:00 is great for these conditions because it is short and stubby and calm. I'm at the top of the weight range and that means I have to fly in a little bit faster wind but nothing like a mini wing. I'm going to have flashing lights and a boat horn to honk when I land so people will know I landed. Within a month of my first flight 5000 people in my area will discuss me and where I am flying to and if there is ever a problem everybody will go out and look for me and listen for the horn
