You all know that I would recommend an oil cleanser to anyone...even those with oily skin. I believe an oil cleanser is an essential step to any cleansing routine....But I get comments from many saying that oil cleansers don't suit their skin. There are very few people who can't use an oil cleanser so this often tells me they are either using it incorrectly, or using the wrong one. In this video we'll talk about why oil cleansers are important, and how to choose the right one for your specific needs and skin type.
DRY SKIN - Needs more OLEIC ACID
Hazelnut Oil
Marula Oil
Shea Nut Oil
Sweet Almond Oil
Apricot Oil
Avocado Oil
Olive Oil
OILY SKIN - Needs more LINOLEIC ACID
Safflower Oil
Evening Primrose Oil
Grapeseed Oil
Poppy Seed Oil
Sunflower Oil
Hemp Seed Oil
Corn Oil
Soya Bean Oil
Black Cumin Seed Oil
Wheat Germ Oil (Comedogenic)
Pumpkin Seed Oil
Rosehip Oil
BALANCED SKIN - Is already balanced so needs oils balanced in both
Jojoba Oil
Flaxseed Oil
Argan Oil
Tamanu Oil
Castor Oil
MOST OF THE LINKS LISTED IN THE DESCRIPTION BOX ARE AFFILIATE LINKS WHICH MEANS I WILL RECEIVE A SMALL COMMISSION IF YOU CLICK ON THE LINK AND MAKE A PURCHASE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

Really loving this series. Learning sooo much from you, and fine tuning my skincare step by step according to your advice. Much appreciate your detailed yet easy to understand detail, suitable product recommendations and the list of suitable oils for each skin type. Much appreciate the extra effort you put in. Clear, concise & very educational. I would love for you to continue this style of series for all the rest of the steps of a skin care routine, as your information is invaluable. Including non-oil cleansers and cleansing balms, according to skin type. Thank You💗

This is information that I didn’t know about! I have combo skin that leans toward oily. So, I copied down your list of oils good for me and began to search for products that have mostly linoleic acids. I settled on Face Shop Rice Light Cleansing oil. Can’t wait for it to arrive! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Hello again Gemma! It's bedtime in Texas and I have just cleansed my dry sensitive skin with Palmers Facial Cleansing Oil followed by CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. I have used and like Tatcha cleansing oil but is expensive. I also used Clinique which did not take off eye makeup well and DHC which burned my eyes. Palmers does the job excellently and is priced quite reasonably. It painlessly melts off eye makeup as well. Love your videos. Best to your mom. I am 71 by the way. Take care and stay safe.

Before watching your cleansing oil video I was using Josie Maran (JM)cleansing oil. Didn't get the fuss about it so I had put it away. I tried it again after your video and it made a world of difference. Once I got low on it, I bought the Simple cleansing oil. That did not go well. I had bumps that were not pimples all over my cheeks. A round of cortisone later, I recovered and gave it to my daughter. Works for her. After all that I read the ingredients in the JM oil and began searching for a dupe for It. I mean come on it's over $30. So I tried the Burts Bees Cleansing oil had many of the same ingredients of JM's. So much better. Thank you so much for the informative and very helpful. And now I know why as well.

Really helpful information, having not got on well with oil based cleansers in the past, they had too much oleic oil for my skin, I recently discovered Evolve Cleansing Melt, which my skin loves. Looking at the ingredients there is Baobob oil in it which has almost equal measures of both oil types, but also safflower oil and other lovely ingredients, so glad to have found something that suits my 63 yr old combination skin at last. Your lovely mum may like this one too. I have really missed watching her appearances in your videos as it’s so hard to find us over 60’s featured.

Gemma, my face is always so dry now but I used to have oily skin so I’ve resisted using a cleansing oil instead of water based cleansers. I haven’t really trusted that it would work out for my skin. You, however, have some extra cred with me (honesty, straight-forward videos, changing skin needs yourself, because you like to say ‘absolutely’? 🤷‍♀️) so I’m going to give it a try. I had a sample of the DHC cleansing oil so I used it for a 15 minute exfoliating cleanse as you suggested in another video. My skin is in heaven. I’m eager to give an oil cleanser a try for everyday now. Thank you.

I have oily skin and cleansers have been either too drying or not cleansing enough my entire life. Once I began using oil cleansers, it was a complete game changer. I turned my also oily-skinned sister onto them and now neither of us would be without them. I’ve used several and settled on one from Palmer’s that’s available in the U.S. It’s fragranced but if you’re not sensitive to that, I’d recommend it because it’s very affordable and readily available in drug stores. My skin has been so much better since using an oil cleanser. Oil likes oil, it just makes sense! And the feeling of oil on the skin is so luxurious and makes me stop and spend a bit more time massaging and focusing on problem areas. It’s such a perfect product.

@PamperedWolf

The Bare Minerals is amazing Sabine. Linoleic Acid is also beneficial for anyone with dry skin. And you have to remember that as our bodies don't make Linoleic acid, if we don't eat foods high in Linoleic acid or topically introduce it to our skins, then dry skinned people can also need a boost in this area too. Linoleic Acid is great at protecting the skin barrier so you can't go wrong. The only element you're not getting by skipping on the Oleic acid ingredients is the high nourishment. You can add this with a moisturiser xxx

I’ve used all as step one of my double cleansing and they all work extremely well - none required washcloth and didn’t leave and oily residue. Eve Lom's Cleanser is also very good but it did leave a residue so definitely to be used with a washcloth.

Hey, thank you so much for your vids - honestly I’m hooked lol. My question is: is your skin now dry because of Tretinoin or was it beforehand? I am so dry since I started, I can’t get foundation to sit well on my skin (any vids about foundations suited to Tret-skin would be amaze!) Keep doing what you’re doing it’s so appreciated :)

Great video! Any thoughts on the Dermalogica Precleanse for oily skin? Reading the ingredients list there’s a mix of oils in there - it does a great job but not sure if I’d be better trying something else?

Thanks Gemma, this is a great video. I love your honest reviews and recommendations. I’ve got combination skin and use the Bare Essentials Oil Obsessed and I love it! Please can you recommend an eye makeup remover for me as whatever products I use I still suffer with puffy eyes and the bags under my eyes stay all day. I have tried so many products and non seem to make any difference. I use Niod fractionated eye contour concentrate and have been using this for a month so far, I haven’t noticed any difference but will continue as I might need to give the product more time x

I have oily skin and use DHC cleansing oil and I love it. For my second cleanse I use the non foaming Cerave hydrating face wash. It’s a great combo for me.

Wonderful video...thank you for sharing. A few questions (1) is it OK to use the same oil for both the 1st and 2nd cleanse? (2) do you use the same oil cleanser in the morning too? (3) do you have recommendations for a good foam cleanser for oily skin? Thank you so much for your help.

Hi, this is really interesting. And I just watched your video on cutting out cleansing in the morning which I am going to try. I currently use the lumi spa. Would it be ok to first cleanse with oil then use another water based cleanser with my lumi afterwards?

Great video! This is silly, I know, but I'm not 100% sure if I really know what my skin type is - which probably makes me think that maybe I'm a combination skin... Any chance you can do a video showing how to tell what skin type we are?

Thank you for the in-depth review of these cleansing oils. I’ve always used them for a first cleanse only. If using a cleansing oil for a second cleanse, should I dry my face after the first cleanse and apply the cleansing oil for the second cleanse on a dry face?
