I’ve been canning about 35 qts of peppers for years, never water bathed them after canning. Just boiled vinegar, water , canning salt and add dried garlic power and dried dill seed to the jars. I use 1:1 ratio vinegar to water. This is how my whole family does it. I know on small batches, people refrigerate for extra safety.
How easy is that! Thanks for showing us visual learners! I have that book and love it, but fear trying anything until I ‘see’ someone else do it. Thanks again. God bless ❤️
You are my go to women for getting garden ideas and canning. first time canning by myself. I would help my Mom when she use to can. I thank you for the lessons.
Thank you for putting together this video, I know it takes a lot of time for you to make these, it is much appreciated. Your canning videos are wonderful illustrations of processes that reading a recipe cannot convey.
Hey Sarah I bought this book on your recommendation and love it. I was wondering if this is the recipe "PICKLED HOT PEPPERS" on page 316? I also don't know if they change the page numbers when they update.
I love some spice with my food and this is a great way to use up all those pepper that we grow. I have a great recipe for pickled green beans would love to share with you. The red jalapeño peppers look great in with the green peppers. Thanks for a great video. God bless you guys.
My parents bought me the same book 15 years ago for my birthday and it's my Go-to book as well. We used it for beef stew last week. Am going to check out the pickled pepper recipe today. Love hearing from you guys.
@@sheila4046 absolutely, my sister uses Mrs Wages bread and butter packets from Amazon or Walmart when she makes B and B pickles, all o did was substitute jalapeño rings instead of sliced pickles and fallow the instructions on the packet, I then boiled the jars to seal them and had them all year, enjoy they are delicious.
Hello Sarah! I read comments, and one said “visual learners” I am one of those people, I greatly appreciate u showing how simple it is (words make it complicated) do u have a playlist on water bathing?????? Thank u
Try using sweet pickle mix for some sweet heat.First time for me this year and so far everybody loves it. Thanks for your videos. Have a great day and God bless!
Thanks for the video. God bless. I am going to look back and watch more of your videos. I canned jams and pickles in the past. I need to start a garden again this year and can more stuff.
Just love your channel. You are two very ,lucky guys to have each other and share your lifestyle. I have a 15 acre farm but have insane business commitments. I try to do too much and learning that I cannot do it all. Our weather in Ohio has been just too much. Today at 3pm it was 50 dog right now 4 hours later we have sleet and snow! Lost 20 Bobwhites that survived negative 7! The freezing rain killed my babies. Confused and angry. Hurt. Bobwhites incredibly hard to raise.
It was a good year for hot peppers. We had a lot of jalapenos and cayenne. My sweet bell peppers didn't do so well. I like the way the red and green look together. Very nice Sarah.
So glad you had a great pepper season. We made a couple of mistakes with them early in the spring which set us back. Every year is an opportunity to learn!
Ooh I hope there's a video of the jalapeno goat cheese recipe mentioned in the description!!! I'm glad I came across this video. I have several varieties of jalapenos and other peppers and I was a bit intimidated at the thought of having to pickle them, but now I see it's actually really simple! Thank you for showing so many homestead tasks and helping new homestead converts like me see that much of these tasks aren't so hard at all!
Try and make jalapeno pepper jelly it is awesome you can bake turkey with it chicken with it whenever you bake it, whatever it is absolutely delicious and you can mix it in cream cheese and make a good cracker spread you can just put it on bagels or muffins or it is very good
I ordered that book from Half Price Books after your last vid featuring it. Apparently my mother has it and didn’t tell me but raves about it when I told her. Lol! I grow jalapeños cuz we can our own homemade salsa but that’s the only way I like them.
Made stuffed jalapeños years ago didn’t use gloves and three days later after washing my hands a bunch and taking at least 2 showers could touch fingers to tongue and still get heat.
Baking Soda!! Use baking soda on your hands before you wash them with soap. It neutralizes the capsaicin. I make a paste & rub it in my hands & then wash with soap
Awesome video Sarah! Jalapeno Peppers is something that I want to grow this coming year. That was a very quick and easy process you used. Does it still retain some crispness to the peppers using this process? I have gotten a lot of pickled peppers from stores in the past and they were on the mushy side. I'm not sure if it was from over cooking or something else. I'm a complete amateur where canning is concerned. All I know is that I love eating Hot Dogs with peppers on them. I spread a layer on the bun and flop a hotdog on top and chow down. I don't need any other fixings. The crispy ones add a burst of fire and flavor with every bite. They are quite addicting. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Honestly, any canning process will make most veggies on the mushy side. Pickled carrots and cauliflower aren't so bad. One thing that I haven't tried yet, which is on my list, is fermenting. I've heard that the fermentation process keeps veggies firmer than canning. A friend of mine ferments jalapenos and loves them. I just need to get the courage to try it.
I'm still watching but my grand daughter just moved in with me and we are busy getting The house and stuff set up. Hopefully when everything smooths out I will get back to my old self. Sooooo many things to do. LOL. I promise that I am still loving you guys videos but just don't have time to reply.
I pickled jalapenos last year and they were tasty but very soft and I like mine crunchy, too. There is a process using pickling lime that is supposed to keep pickles crisp. I haven't tried it yet. You can find it with the pickling supplies. Ball and Mrs Wages make it. An internet search found wild variations in price for Mrs Wages, but this place had a very good price. www.fleetfarm.com
I make jalapeno pepper jelly with those I'll leave some of the Season could you want some of it hot but you don't have to be very good there so many different ways that you can use the jelly also
@Living Traditions Homestead Fantastic video. Thank you. Quick Question: how long do you keep them in the jars before eating them? Amd do you keep them in the glass jars after opening? I assume they last a long time if unopened. Thank you.
We have jalapeno over load from our garden this year, so I have been putting them in a freezer bag and into the freezer. Am I able to take them out and pickle them after they have been frozen?
great video. Thank you. How many pepper plants did you plant to get that number of peppers. I am not a fan of hot peppers, but my son in law loves jalapenos. I will definitely try making some of these for him this year. (I only have 3 pepper plants.) Can you pickle whole or 1/2? Would you remove seeds if done that way for eating? One more question, can you use these in salsa?
You can pickle whole peppers but poke a few holes in them with a skewer or knife point so the brine can get inside. The more seeds you leave in, the hotter the pickle.
Yesterday afternoon (6/18/2020) I canned 6 pint jars of jalapeño Peppers from our garden using your method explained in this video. This morning I opened a jar to test them. They taste wonderful, however they are soft and not crisp. Is this normal for water bath method? Does the fermenting method result in crispy peppers? I truly appreciate you input. Thank you.
I have just started canning this year, why didn't you put the jars in boiling water to sterilize them and then put in the hot liquid brine? I have seen on Ball's web site that they don't recommend put you lids in hot water anymore, the sealing compound has been changed and it is no longer necessary, am I wrong about this? Thanks appreciate your videos.
That sounds like the same basic ratio as the Ball Blue Book for Hot Peppers, the one I've tried in the past is a 50/50 mixture but I did not like it. .Do they taste like the store bought canned/jarred jalapenos? I always let all my peppers get totally ripe before I pick them because from what I've seen, you don't get all the vitamins in the green peppers. Thanks for sharing.
to get the garlic smell off your hands, rub your hands over stainless steel. It can be your sink, a stainless bowl, anything that is stainless steal. Then wash with soap. The smell will be gone.
Sarah, when you put the jars to process in that small canner, what did you put on the bottom of the canner to put the jars on while boiling? Thank you so much. this is my first year canning. I really appreciate you all a lot.
I tried pickeling peppers. It didnt work out. I just took left over dill pickle juice and cut the peppers , put them in and left them for 3-4 months. They never soaked in the juice :/ Ill try this recipe though.
I watching all the canning videos... question. What’s the difference in using the pressure canner ( like the beets) and just doing it in a pot ( like the jalapeños). Any reason why you do one over the other? Thanks!
