It annoys me when I'm at some celebration or family function, I go outside or deliberately put distance between myself and the other guests to avoid smoking anyone out, then someone comes all the way over to where I am to say "you shouldn't smoke, it's bad for you."
And it always seems to be the 350 lb 5’ 2” cousin with a penchant for anything snackable. In fact, you never see this person when they don’t have some type of food in their mouth. But they want to berate you for having a puff on a nice stick and avoiding the intolerable family drama….. That is the real reason they are berating you. You have the innate ability to avoid the stress brought on by drama queens. Good on you!
Just experienced this yesterday. Asked my ground man if he smoked cigars. We were sitting on storm standby, a great opportunity to enjoy one. He says “hell yes”, so I hand him an $18. cigar and my cutter. First off, he cut about an inch off,(yikes)then proceeded to light it, took about 14 pulls and just let it die, then tossed it out the window when he thought I wasn’t looking. I let him know that would be that last time I shared with him, and why.
@@chipper442 I've started keeping "cheep" cigars in the humidor for people that want a cigar that I don't think smoke them... haha I don't mind if they cut an inch off a 2 dollar cigar.
I would go even further: "Someone that asks for a cigar," This is not like bumming a cigarette or a stick of gum. For all they know, all you have on you is a couple of one-of-a-kind smokes that you've been dying to get your hands on for the last couple of years and that you haven't even tried yourself yet. Don't put someone in a position to begrudgingly give you something that they don't want to give, or having to explain to you why it's not gonna happen. And now them being cast as the bad guy despite it being YOU who's the moocher. Let a potential benefactor take the initiative and offer freely if they so desire. But do NOT ask!
Nah. My philosophy has always been that the only waste with a cigar is smoking past the point of enjoying it. I'm giving it away, so I won't miss it. It's theirs to throw out when they're finished
What I learned doing research is Cuban cigars were really good but when the government took over. No one had to compete anymore so the soil and quality went bad. So it’s more legend then true now but that other areas where farmers need to compete have better cigars due to better soil and the other competition. Also it’s just what you prefer at the end of the day.
People who insist that cigars are terrible for your health, even worse than cigarettes because they're so much bigger. I think that bothers me more than anything else.
Yeah. It doesn't matter to them at all that you don't inhale them. and no chemically treated brown paper on or in the premium hand-rolled ones, unlike cigs.
I'd actually enjoy, you know, _a fucking study_ on this? I want to smoke cigars, but I don't know if "once a month" or "once a week" actually change anything in your health.
My favourite one: a cigarette smoker who’s in a smoking area or outside of a pub specifically so they can smoke, dramatically choking or waving away our cigar smoke when we’re 20ft away. Extra points if they ask you how long you’ll be smoking it for, and throw in a full on asswhuppin if they ask you to put it out. God I hate those assholes
What pissed me off the first time it happened was when my friends and I went out to bars and they'd all ask for cigars, and one of them grabbed the most expensive one (like a 14 dollar stick) he cut it poorly, lit it poorly, went on for a while about how much he loves cigars and proceeded to take 6 or 7 puffs.... Then throw it out in the trash, and went to go smoke his weed at his car🤣 I learned my lesson real quick and only give him the cheapies now, while the rest of us enjoy the moment and the great sticks.
@@Dukes3677 🤣🤣 it's all good though. It became a joke to all of us how he consistently did it. He's bought me plenty of booze though so I say it makes up for it.
@red vegiesoup yeah you gotta have the right people to smoke with around or it can be less than enjoyable, I can't stand people that talk too much, just to hear themselves speak. And I'd rather be around people that enjoy their cigar or whiskeys instead of people that just shoot em back.
I went into a cigar area in a Bar in Virginia City,NV (Comstock Lode ) It was winter, cold and snowy out and this back room had huge windows hanging out over the cliff behind with a beautiful view of mountains. I just wanted to drink some Single Malt, read a book, enjoy the fireplace and view. After about 10 minutes all by myself two people came in sat down next to me and wouldn’t shut up trying to talk to me about who knows what. I’m always amazed that people don’t get it .
In a similar vein of being the guy that is expected to provide everyone a smoke.....my uncle smoked Marlboro reds exclusively. But when someone wanted to bum a cigarette he had a pack of Lucky Strikes I think it was he would give them a cigarette from. When they complained he said that's what you get when you ask me for a cigarette.
When a family member comes out to my porch knowing that I'm smoking a cigar and makes a face while fanning the smoke with their hands and says " that stinks"
My gf complains she can always smell it inside even though I'll smoke out 20 feet near my car with all the windows and doors closed to the house and I'm like girl if you don't 😮💨
As a cigar smoker in the UK, what annoys me the most, is when I tell people I smoke premium cigars they respond “you mean like cubans? … aren’t they illegal?” 🤦♂️
What pisses me off is when I'm sitting outside work on my lunch break smoking a cheaper cigar (factory smokes usually) that burns more quickly to have a half hour or so of pure bliss and like 10 people come up and ask if I have a cigarette and then get pissed off at me when I politely say no and clearly I'm holding a cigar.
I've had it happen - quite a few times, actually - that cigarette smokers complain to me when I'm smoking a cigar in a designated "smoking area", because I guess, to them, cigars are more potent smelling than cigarettes. It annoys me.
I had this happen to me. Couple of younger guys sat at a table I was standing next to. They all lit up cigarettes, and one told me my cigar smoke smells and was bothering him. I turned to him and said, "So what? You're smoking too." His buddies even have him shit for that stupid comment.
I wouldn’t say it “pisses me off” but I cringe so hard when I smoke with friends who aren’t cigar nerds and I see them trying to flick their ash off (prematurely at that)
The other day the lady at a Tobacco store that has a humidor comes in just as I was grabbing a oliva 135th out of the box to buy and she said sir don’t grab the cigar by the tobacco only by the band I grabbed it and noticed a big crack on the foot so I told her and put it back and grabbed a different one and she made the point never to touch the cigar by the tobacco because the oils on your hand charge the flavor notes…. I politely responded with a smerk and said ok but you do realize these are hand rolled right?? She looked at me like I was a dumbass lol
Couldn't agree more. In fact, just had a wonderful "No Name" brand Maduro that was a bundle purchase tl& works out to $3.50 a stick. Recommend by a dear friend who unfortunately has left us too early. He was a guy that would guide you but never "educated" you. I laugh every time I have one of these thinking about all the "afficianados" who have tried to tell me cheap sticks are for the poors...
I enjoy a Quorum Maduro at work about every day. It’s actually a pretty good smoke at $3 bucks a stick and I don’t feel bad if it has to be left behind for a pressing work issue!
When someone asks if I am smoking a Cuban the correct answer is always, “Why yes it is and I will sell you one for $100.” Profit off of ignorance my friends.
What gets me is when im smoking a cigar away from other people at like a beach and non smokers walk by and start coughing like crazy or tell me im gonna get cancer.
My big gripe is I have several friends who want to go to the cigar shop with me but when we get there after 15 minutes they are ready to go,I like churchhills and don't get to go very often so I'm there for at least an hour or more while they have ants in their pants and can't just sit back and enjoy.
The fake cough signaling disapproval that I'm smoking a cigar really pisses me off. I rarely smoke in public, I prefer to enjoy a cigar on my own back porch, but when I do choose to indulge in a public place, it's always a wide open large outdoor space and I always distance myself from others. It never fails though, I'll be on a wide open beach enjoying a cigar watching my kids play in the ocean and some family will come and sit down right beside me and the fake coughs start. I'm not one to allow my freedoms encroach on the freedoms of others, but I'm sure as hell not moving or putting my cigar out just because someone decided to set up camp all up in my personal space.
As a dad to a teenager and a 22 year old I’ve been told or asked several times lately if I wasn’t “man enough” to inhale when I smoke. Obviously these kids don’t smoke cigars so I now give them a RP Super Ligero and tell them to show me how it’s done.
😂😂man enough, 😂😂man enough, hahahaha man enough. Wait that’s meant to be an insult. I don’t know what it is about my generation but they don’t know shit. They just listen to people and repeat it back to anyone. No one really thinks for themselves which is sad or wants to take the time to do real research. I’m 19, 2 years before I can legally smoke cigars and I’m doing the research. Cigars aren’t meant to be inhaled due to the high level of tobacco. I wouldn’t say inhale but you breath the smoke into your mouth while a tiny little hits your lung. You then wait a second or just blow it out to get the flavor. Your saliva will absorb the smoke getting you the nicotine high. I know more but don’t wanna make this long. That would be false advertising I’m write. Have a blessed day
I remember when i was like 15. Out with friends. One of them stole a cigar from his father. And we smoked it like a joint. Just passing it around. At some point i had the great idea to knuckle it. Just inhaling the everloving crap out if it. I couldn't stand up for 10 minutes because of coughing. And simultaniously had to poop like a madman. Long story short. I crapped my pants in front of my friends. Don't inhale cigars kids
Tim great channel you got here. I’ve been forwarding your post to all my buddies who I know will enjoy your knowledge and spin on cigars! Keep up the great work!
I have been asked to stay and smoke a cigar in the Lounge and I took it as a compliment. I'm new to Cigar World and have gained Alot of information from the lounge crew! Peace ✌️ and Love 💕 from Tucson Arizona Desert 🏜️
If you’re the guy that always brings the cigars, just ask the other guys to bring the beer or something. And vice versa. If you’re the guy getting the cigars, contribute in your own way. But my biggest thought behind it is never give something away that you’re not happy to give away. If you don’t want to bring the cigars, don’t. Just let everyone know. If you are bringing the cigars, don’t expect anything in return. You’re blessing the other folks in the herf, and to me, that’s payment enough in and of itself. Also, consider who’s there. If there’s someone trying to stop smoking or who is a former smoker, maybe avoid bringing the cigars.
I know people who are too nice to say what needs to be said. Witch is not good for any group of people. Get it out in the open so that we can enjoy our time without anyone having festering feelings later. Also it's part of being a man saying that thing that no one wants to hear.
On Saturday I was enjoying a cigar at a lounge, when the guy sitting next to me, literally half my age, didn't like the way I ashed my cigar and proceeded to show me the "right" way to do it.
I'm very fortunate in that I smoke on my ranch, and invite friends to enjoy my sticks and Bourbon. Never been in a public smoking cigar room. I do get a kick when they call or text about a coworker or friend tells them they weren't smoking a real 1982 Cuban Davidoff Chateau Haut Brion, or sipping on Pappy Vanwinkle 15 yr. Makes me laugh.
I didn't even realize how much I hate this until a couple weeks ago. I Pulled up in a parking lot and smelled that wonderful specific aroma. Look over and see a guy having a smoke 2 spaces over. I look over make, eye contact, and say: "Smelling good? What you got going over there?" His reply still irritates me "Cuban baby" I got so irritated because it felt like he was a poser. As if I don't know that there are 1000's of different cigars and hundreds of those come from Cuba. So I grab my travel humidor and hold it up. He shows his and I just leave but I was still irritated. "Cuban" doesn't answer the question! Try the name of the Cuban my friend. It's like if I was eating a candy bar, he ask what I have and I say "Chocolate" Maybe elaborate a bit. The Cuban flex went out with the embargo.
You echoed a lot of my own pet peeves on this one. We've got a guy at my favorite smoking place that comes in and dominates the conversation with trying to impress everyone about being a Green Beret for 27 years. Many of us who smoke there are vets and know he's full of shit, but let him go on and on so we have something to talk about later.
Hey Tim I had this video saved because I've been crazy busy in the past month, but I finally sat down to watch it at work and you had me cracking up!!!!! Glad I got to watch it. The 3 things that annoy me is when people judge what I'm smoking and the one that unravel the cigar while smoking it because they think they know how to smoke and when they remove the band of the cigar hahahaha. I don't say anything but it's so annoying lol. Happy New Year Tim and to the Cigars Daily crew.
I just started smoking and my friend is the gut who always brings cigars to the camping trips and range days. Last week I volunteered to buy them this time... well 2 shops and 6 cigars later I'm ready for our trip. A few for the weekend and 1 for him to go home with.
The biggest announcements I’ve commonly had were of course the “is that a Cuban?” And the “ why would you spend that much money on cigars? Aren’t they super expensive?” A lot of people that don’t know cigars think that really good premium cigars all cost $30 and up, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had t explain that the majority of the cigars are in the $7-15 range.
Piss off is a strong word. Other than the critic one which I agree with. Smoke what you like, live and let live. As someone that works in a lounge, my biggest annoyance is people trying to haggle prices
Do you mean $100 for a $10 cigar? Most of the good cigars here in North Carolina, USA are around $10 and up. I know that doesn't help and I am sorry. Good luck to you.
Tim keep the information flowing your Video’s rock like the Beatles Music.💪 As I get older I tend to be more tolerant of others. Beside if I ignore Nuckelheads. My blood pressure stays in normal range.🤥 There are Cigars I hate, but others people love. I get it their taste buds, body chemistry is different that mine. I get it. Rodney King said it best, why can we just get along. Tolerance, any think Golden Rule. Tim is right don’t be that guy.🤪. Tim hit a big home run with this U-Tube.👍
Anyone I've run into comments on how good it smells and asks politely what I'm smoking, and engages me in interesting conversation. I've travelled up and down the east coast, and most people know nothing, but I'm glad to share my knowledge, at least of what I like.
The best thing I've ever heard about long drawn out stories came from my boss from years ago. She was telling me a conversation she had with her husband. She was explaining to him how she had the hardest time picking out some tomatoes at the grocery store. She went on and on about how one tomato looked really good, but another didn't look as good, but they were a dollar cheaper. She said he looked right at her and said, "I'll give you a dollar if you stop telling me this story." Boy was that funny to me.
I hate walking into the shop and getting looked up and down by the old heads that assume because I am not a regular that I must not know anything or are suspicious of my presence. I’ve been smoking cigars for 25 years, boomer. Mind your business and go back to your complaining about how things aren’t like they used to be.
That always grinds my gears. The cigar group connotation of the troll. They insist that every cuban label band is absolutely ALWAYS perfect and is fake if it isn't. They never smoked one, but know more than you ever will. And they worked in a smoke shop for 25 years. Don't mean doodley squat when it comes to Cubans.
Pretty much sums it up for me. I cannot stand people who just won't leave me be ... after I have expressed that I no longer wish to speak or listen. Nobody gives a damn that you have something to say about everything!
I only make it to my local place 2-3 times a month. Usually too busy. But on the chances to go relax there, outside in the nice weather, and people pass by and lecture me on how horrible I am for smoking a cigar. Goooo awayyyyy!
I’ve been that guy who always has cigars for my friends. Didn’t really realize until an outsider was with us and asked me who’s next to bring the cigars. Just had an honest conversation with my friends about it and now everybody does it, so in the end it was no big deal.
I was smoking a 1898 Indepencia while watching this. It's a budget cigar from what I understand. Here in Philippines you can get a 3 pack of these in corona size and I enjoy them, so I'm not gonna let anyone say that "oh you should smoke this cus it's more expensive and better". I will just smile at them and say: Look man I just wanna smoke these cus I enjoy them.
The thing that gets me, when you are smoking outside and people that walk by and aren't in 10 ft of you. But those people start coughing, bc of the "smoke" that is over 10 ft from them OUT Fing SIDE... the fake coughing gets me...
My only annoyance is people asking for a cigar and smoking a quarter of it and wasting the rest. I bought 5 padron 1926s for my bday and have one to all my friends and one of them who invited themselves to the cigar lounge just wasted most of it 😒
People that don't really enjoy cigars but when surrounded by folks that do insist on trying one from your stash, but take a few puffer barely pass the first 3rd and ditch it. I can't afford to top top shelf but have a flavor for high quality and it really over tightens my bolts when someone throws $16 on the ground and walks away.
I'm that guy who gets a few of each premium stick ,just in case someone wants to smoke with me. I carry a few really nice Briarwood pipes and a few tins of tobacco and at least 5 premium cigars usually Ashton or Davidoff just to be sure that I have a decent selection. I feel like it's proper etiquette to be able to provide an enjoyable smoking experience for someone else.
He did a video with Bradley a few years ago over on Best Cigar Reviews where they tried a few different kinds of gas station cigars. It would be cool to see a recent take of that video though, I agree
Whilst lighting a cigar at fox lounge I blew out a cloud of smoke and it all wafted right into the bartenders face, I of course apologized but I still feel bad about that to this day lol 😆
What pisses me off is walking into my local tobacco store and before I set foot in. One of the employees met me at the door asking if I wanted to buy his rims and tires while it was raining.
I think he means when it’s so clearly not a Cuban and people just see it and assume that it’s a Cuban because it’s a cigar because they know nothing about cigars. Nothing wrong with Cubans though! Enjoy brother
I was at a party for the latest superbowl, and after the game, I sat outside in the somewhat chilly air to finish off/start and finish my two cigars, one half-done dipped in crown royal, and the other dipped in Hennessey. A friend of mine came outside as well, and I decided to give him the hennessey to smoke. He had it down to about half within 15 minutes I think. Not really very frustrating but certainly annoying as I think it's a missed opportunity and a bit of a waste.
The thing pisses me off the most is when cigarette smokers tell me my cigars stink. It's like yeah go ahead enjoy your fine aroma of Formaldehyde and Ammonia 🙄
Where can I find this BrandX, you keep bring it up, sounds good. But it better be expensive, because I only smoke the best and if it doesn't cost more than a trip to the gas station, I'm not intrested.... (🤣🤣🤣)
The best response for the cigar choice knocker is hunting for the best buy for your buck vs the best cigar total. I smoke a lot of stuff just because I see a good price on it. Not ever cigar smoking occasion needs a 15-20 dollar Cohiba. Lots of times a 5 dollar Baccarat is perfect.
Yep! The brand snobs. I smoke pretty accessible mid priced cigars. I basically left cigar forums because if I talk about some of the brands I smoke, it's like somebody shit in the punchbowl
How about the non smoker who wants to try the best stick in your box, then smokes it about three inches down and is through with it lol! I always try to direct them to a $2 cigar with a nice band. They ain't gonna know the difference anyway!
That one friend that'll constantly bum a Cigar off you, not finish it or only half it, and then not put it out properly, like destroy it and mushroom the top, and then so it's not even salvageable anymore, like waste it.
My biggest pet peeve is online forums when some jerk post a pic of a handful of rare, hard to get cigars that he got for like half price, and post a pic and asks if he got a good deal? I just want to punch these guys in the face. They absolutely f'ing know they did and just want to brag like a jerk but cant man up and say say "wow look how lucky i got" instead they try to pretend like they didnt know, i guess to feel special. they are special alright.
Not sure if it pisses me off as much as it frustrates me. One of the workers in the lounge I frequent can't tell me anything about any cigars other than LFD. It's the only thing he smokes and cannot speak to any other brand. Most of the time I try to do my research and get an idea of what is available, and the different flavor profiles. Sometimes you see something you have never heard of, and just want to know. That's when I pull up Cigars Daily Plus to see if Tim has reviewed it. Next iteration of CDP might need to have a database to quickly peruse tasting notes and ratings.
I guy came into work and said he loved Cubans except for the price $15 a stick. He loved all the flavors like vanilla he had a hookup that hand rolled them in Brooklyn. 🤦 I'm not a connoisseur but that had me a bit upset. Mostly disappointed.
The Cuban question? I know they're clueless with the ask. If I give you a cigar it is yours. Do what you want. In lounges and gatherings expect unexpected conversation. But. If you talk to much, lecture or are stupid, don't worry, I will use "my words". A lot of French.
