I love the idea of doing a baby blanket featuring the month a child is born. Small project, small temperature ranges, tied to them specifically. Another abbreviation version is to do a pattern that works for 104 lines and do the high and low each week. Or a temperature scarf.

You're so real for that haha. Thought the same until I saw someone do a granny square one with the high and low temperatures of every day. I ordered 8 colors from Claude Monets Sunrise painting and I can't wait to start mine when they finally arrive next week👀

I haven't done a temp blanket before. I'm thinking of doing one for this upcoming year, because it will be our first year in our house. But instead of temperatures, I'm thinking of calling it the kids' choice blanket, and let my kids rotate choosing the color of the week/day from my pallet. I have four kids, so I thought that would be fun!

We picked out a pattern together, collaborated on colors and temp chart and are ready to order supplies!! My advice for a temperature blanket first timer is do what you can each day, even if that’s nothing for that day! And don’t be too hard on yourself. Also it’s about the journey not the destination and a Temp Blanket is a jog not a sprint if the that makes sense… ❤

I love the first temperature blanket i made for my husband a few years ago. It was a history of our first year of marriage - starting on our wedding day, including our honeymoon to Jamaica in the middle of a Canadian winter. Very obvious colour change. It was 2 round hexagons so more like a lapghan. Kudos to anyone who completes a temperature blanket in real time!

My daughter and I are crocheting a Temp blanket for the year 1924 for my Dad's 100th birthday this fall. We are making it in mitered granny squares laid out in 12 monthly blocks just like a 1 page printout of the year. She is also having a book made explaining the blanket with a printout of the calendar with the temps and colors. I watched this video and it gave me the idea, we just had to plan it out and start crocheting in batches!!! Thank you for all the great and informative videos that you create. You have really helped both my daughter and I to improve our skills. I just purchased new tunisian hooks and sent her my original ones to learn on now that she is better at regular crochet.

I started my 1st and last temp blanket on my 59th bday to commemorate my 60 year journey. I made it for my queen bed and used colors usually associated with the temp range. My mistakes were making the project to big, and using colors that aren't my usual pallet. This year I decided to do a historical temp scarf for the year and city I was born. I will use a pallet more to my ascetic. It will be a more manageable project and I am already looking forward to wearing my history. Thank you Toni for all the information, inspiration and support.

I've always thought of a temperature blanket as a cute idea but a daunting task I knew I'd never finish. But you gave me the idea to do a little stuffed animal for my kids. I can check the temperatures for when I was pregnant with them and have each kid have the colors match their time in my belly so they will be unique with the different seasons I was pregnant and for how long.

I'm working on a temperature scarf this year and after getting this far, I wish I picked a different stitch. I would suggest making a bunch of swatches of different stitches, letting them percolate for a while, and then picking your stitch. I rushed into it and I regret doing that. So I'm going to work on another scarf next year and this one will be a wall hanging after I crochet or knit a border around it.

Toni, these were great tips and I totally agree with you when you said there are no rules its your blanket. This was my first year doing a temperature blanket. I went with a Sampler blanket where every month was a different stitch and 1 row every other day. I have stayed on track and the blanket is not too big. I love all your videos Toni, and am very excited to begin this new project! I will be doing a literal temp blanket with traditional colors associated with daily temps each day of 2023. We are building a new house, have been planning it all year and hope to move in December. This year was also historic weather in Austin, since we lost two 100 year old oak trees in our yard during the freeze of January, and lived through record breaking length of 100+ days in July-September. What a year to record! My blanket will have lots of orange and red! Thanks again.

I made a temperature blanket on a whim…rather, my daughter just happened to mention the idea…I took it and ran with it….i did absolutely no reasearch…just bought yarn and started. Since I live in Louisiana I realized that there would be periods of like temperatures. I used average daily temps. That worked fine until July. I had divided the ranges in 10 degree intervals because it doesn’t get super cold here. The problem was that I realized I was not going to get average temps in the 90’s, so I adjusted my warmest range to five degrees. It worked out well. I did weave in ends…my pattern was simple…single crochet one row per day using 4 weight acrylic. I bought leather tags and tied them on at the first of each month. In 2023 my daughter, (again!) suggested seasonal placemats….i did do some thought and planning and realized that wasn’t going to work for me. So since I have a relatively small table, I decided to make seasonal table runners. I picked four colors for each season, and made four table runners…just 90 rows each…who am I kidding…I’ve only completed two and two-thirds of another. I realized after starting the winter one I realized that I started with January, 2023, and would not be able to get the December data for a year…ooops! I am very happy with the colors I chose, and you have inspired me to pick up the last two runners and complete them. I used a more textured stitch for the runners, it worked well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, creative gifts, and most of all, your joy!

I love your temperature blanket videos! i haven't made one yet because temperatures don't really compel me. i'm starting my family medicine residency next year, and i just had the thought that it might be fun to make a blanket with the number of hours i work each day lol

Thanks Toni, I have never stitched a temp blanket before and I have half heartedly thought about it, but you have given me the motivation to think a little more seriously about it. One thing in my favor is time, I have time. And I am not the best at Facebook so maybe that is motivation to try and navigate Facebook as well. Thanx again Tracy.

My friend lost her son last year. He was a huge Dodgers fan. I'm going to make her one using the wins/losses and home/away games from the year he was born. Now I need to decide the type of blanket I will make.

I so enjoyed your video! I had no idea I was actually making afghans with this project name until I came across your channel. I called it a ‘Seasonal Blanket’ instead of a Temp Gauge blanket. And I too put it down during the week and only worked on 1 or 2 days a week. It’s fun to walk away and work on another project as to not become bored with a certain pattern or colors. Thank you for being such fun. And yes, Pepper loves you ❤

I just started mine for this year - giving it to my son (and new daughter in law). It will note the actual high temps by row and their birthdays and their WEDDING DAY! Doing it in simple single crochet lines - already inspired for my next one by your videos :)

I just watched the video before starting - guess I should have warched it a couple of months ago. Waiting for my yarn, which is supposed to be delivered from Lion Brand this week. I have my gauge and pattern and am itching to get started. Thanks for the inspiration, Toni - I've tried to do this a couple of times before and not stuck with it. Hoping that I'll stick it out this time. I especially appreciated your tips on how to stay motivated. Hoping that hanging out with a group here will help!

I started one last year....and stopped. I'm glad I saw this video to re-energize my self and give myself m permission to rip out what I've done and start again. Know that I know a few more stitches than just TSS, I can plan something different. You mentioned novelty yarns...I can see a day where you might use them in a complimentary color to denote a special occasion...I'm doing the Temps from 1988, when I got married, and the city and country I was located in at the time. I can see using a frilly yarn for one round to denote the specific wedding day and perhaps our birthdays.

I made a temperature blanket (Sept 1-Aug 31) I was so excited I couldn’t wait until January!! It was super fun at first but as soon as I started getting behind I lost motivation. I stuck to it though busy swore off the temperature blanket! Watching this video and listening to all your tips have made me second guess!! 2024 temp blanket may be in the works!! Thank you for your tips and positive vibes!! I just love watching your videos!!

Oh I just got a great idea, I think I want to look into what the temperature was on my birth year in the city I was born in! That hopefully will help make my temperature blanket so much more colorful in my mind rather than doing one based on where I live now, Florida!!😊

I'm currently working on a temperature blanket to commemorate my 47th trip around the sun. My project will run from my last birthday to this upcoming birthday in February. It's a very good tip to allow a month's time for all supplies to arrive when ordering online.

I'm making my first temp blanket this year and I follow most of her advice on planning ahead, I would add to have a excel sheet to keep track of the temperature and also your progression. Summer is definitely when I didn't work on it but I have been working on it September and October and I'm almost caught up.

Southern California may be comparatively hot most of the time, but we still get a pretty wide temperature range. This summer we had 100F+ temps as usual, but we spent a major chunk of Jan-March with highs below 60F, and will probably be there again well before Christmas. Next year I want to make a blanket with each day of my great-niece's first year, as a gift for her parents. Fingers crossed!

16:27 I'm really glad to have this mantra of " my blanket my rules" in my head as I prep and get started! I've always wanted to do a temperature blanket but have never had the motivation to get started and such detailed support as you've given in this video. Thank you for all the inspiration and for the reminder that it's my blanket and I get to set the rules! I'm going with a theme based on the colors of the Pacific coast so blues and greens and browns! So excited to get started!

I like the idea of a temperature project, but I know I won’t stick with one for long. That being said, I live in an area where the temperature can fluctuate wildly from month to month, but tends to stay fairly warm for most of the year. The big change is the uv index, so I’m considering doing a version tracking the sun for a time. I would probably need to make it for a past year, but I think it could look quite nice, especially in some kind of bright yellow tonal gradient.

I thought of making temperature blanket before, but thought it would be pretty boring: squares or stripes for full year? Nope. But because of this video i looked into other variants and found one that i liked. And, i think, i'm gonna try and stick with it.

I attempted a temp blanket back in 2021 when I was very new to crochet, and did not set myself up for success. I did not size it right so it was going to end up super long and skinny, and to top it off was single crochet. 🫣 Needless to say, I made it to about May lol. Ready to attempt again three years later and am hoping your linen square pattern will keep me motivated! Projects with granny square style construction helps me stay motivated and get a sense of accomplishment whenever I finish a square. Thank you for the pattern!!

If you're daunted by the size and cost of a temperature blanket project, I've been working on a temperature cross stitch this year. Cross stitch is super easy to learn, the cost, even for a temperature project, is so much lower than a blanket, and catching up if you fall behind doesn't take nearly as long.

I am crocheting my first temperature blanket. I love it. I chose granny squares. I am using 10 degrees pur color change. I got the idea from one of you older videos. Next year I am going to make one from the temperature of my son’s birthday until his death. He past in May 2023. So I know I will have 42 squares. I am going to do like you said and look the temps up first then pick my colors. I like what you said about making the degrees different. I will not use 10 degrees different. I will probably use 5. Thanks for the info. I so appreciate all you do for the yarn community. By the way you taught me how to Tahitian crochet. I made a throw. Love you❤

I made a temperature blanket last year using #4 acrylic yarn. It became so large and heavy and that made it hard to store and to work on. Needless to say, when it became too cumbersome to work on, I stopped working on it. So this year I am going to try another one using a Dk weight wool acrylic blend and I am going to try your 33 row squares. Wish me luck and thanks so much fo this video.❤

My first attempt was a flop. For my second try, I decided on a historical theme - starting with the day I was born and working it until the day before I turned one. I decided on a twin size with drape and it's getting huge! I may have to cut back to 6 months! I broke it down into 10 colors but if I do another, I'm going to break it down more because we have a lot of the same temps here in Texas. I'm using Herrschner's worsted 8 so I don't have to worry about trying to restock when needed. I may have to make one for each of my 3 grandkids and my great grandson!

I took your email course and was feeling well prepared and very excited. I had an awesome start. But then faced some unexpected obstacles as I found that the pattern I had chosen did not actually match my vibe. That brought me to delay as I started fresh with another pattern, and also running out of yarn, because now this is completely different yardage than I calculated and ordered for the first pattern. Beside that your course was really helpful, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us! And as you said: "your blanket, your rules" there is no rush to be finished in a year, I wasn't even expecting to do that, I'm putting a loose timeline in 3 years. 😄

What a great organizing video. My sister has been wanting a temp blanket for years. She and her hubby have been married 40 years this September and I want to surprise her with a temp blanket from the year they got married. I've been looking for different patterns/ colors/weights for a blanket. I started with yarn weight. Fingering? Sport? Worsted? I think I'm going with sport this year. Pattern is more challenging. I love the blankets that are a row or two a day, but know I'll get bored with that quickly. I'm thinking a modular pattern and have narrowed it down to two. Before the week is out, I'm going to try to knit a square from both of the patterns to get an idea of how much yarn I'll need and how big the blanket will be.
