Thanks for this. I was told to bury the tuber so the topmost part was two inches deep. The tiny little buds didn't grow at all after two months. I'm now going to try planting much closer to the surface so they might have a chance of sunlight!

Thank you for posting this video. I planted mine today in Zambia. I bought two from Wilko in London for £2 each. I hope they will make it 🤞cos it's very hot out here

Keep them in part shade. Mine really struggle in the heat of Texas!

@@MilkAndHoneyAcreage I am also TX. I bought some peonies as well and and I hope it does well. I tried hydrangeas, and gardenia with no luck.

As you’ve probably worked out by now, they won’t survive in Zambia. Nor in Texas for that matter! They need a temperate climate where they can be in full sun but not die because of the heat. Areas similar to the UK in terms of winter and summer temperatures are great for them. And they really do want to be in the ground, not in pots. It just doesn’t suit them at all, certainly not in the long term. And once you’ve planted a Peony, you usually have it for life 👍🏻

I don't know if I'll get a response, but I've planted my peony and there's two tiny buds coming out but the rest of the tuber has grown a white fungus like mold and part of the root has softened up and died. I've put fungicide on the root and it's worked on most of it but the mold still persists, I've planted in a mix of cocopeat perlite and compost
@MilkAndHoneyAcreage
@MilkAndHoneyAcreage Год назад
Try spraying the top of the soil will 4 parts water and 1 part milk. Also let it dry out almost completely before watering it again. You can put a light layer of coconut coir as mulch and that will help keep the soil surface dryer. Hope that helps.

@MilkAndHoneyAcreage
@MilkAndHoneyAcreage 4 года назад
They do but we are in zone 8 which is pushing it heat wise for them. Our sun is really harsh here but they still get about 6 hours of sun in this spot it just gets shady in the late afternoon. Last year I had it in full sun all day and it was too harsh.

I had a bag that I bought from Walmart about two weeks ago, not this kind but double peony mix (3 roots for $10) There was NOTHING green or pink on those roots and I am afraid they might be dead? They were brown and dry and I had to search each one for what looked like it might possibly be a bud (or was at one time). Anyway I wish I could go back and get some more but we are on a stay at home order here in Louisiana. However, there are a couple of outdoor nurseries in my town and they are open. My boyfriend thinks I’m crazy for wanting to go. Surely it would be ok if it’s outdoors and people keep their distance - thoughts? Otherwise I’m going to have to resort to ordering bulbs online. I finally have time to do the gardening I always wanted to do but now I need more bulbs ugh!

I would only go if you’d were already on a trip for necessities. Quick grab and go. I would plant those anyway and see what happens. If they have littlest bit of energy left they might bud!

I just bought some , and I don’t wanna mess this up. I’m in Ohio. The area I planned on using is full sun most of the day. The bag says full sun. Should I find a “part sun” area instead?
@MilkAndHoneyAcreage
@MilkAndHoneyAcreage 4 года назад
It depends on how harsh your sun is. Ours is really harsh in the south. I imagine in Ohio it’s not as bad so I would plant it in full sun.

I just saw these roots at walmart and was tempted to buy, but I was not sure if this could grow in containers. I stumbled upon your video while researching this. Do you move the container indoors during winter? I live in zone 6. Not sure if this will survive outdoors in winter.
@MilkAndHoneyAcreage
@MilkAndHoneyAcreage 3 года назад
They will do well in zones 3-7. You don’t have to bring them in. You should get some just keep in mind it will be a few years before you see flowers.
