Best vid., you show all the tools, simplify things and you’re not talking Speedy Gonzalez, like many people, so fast, where you have to back up and stop the video, replay. A v good pace, ty, v nice to listen to this. (Most Americans are in a big hurry and talk very fast, this is wonderful to watch, ty. You win the prize….excellent! ) Very Nice and Fun to watch!

No compost or fertilizer? Only water 2-3 times a week during this stage. I was always told to mound slightly as opposed to level dirt with the ground. Also never mulch up to the stump it will kill the plant. Great tips here tho! I especially like the top soil idea thats going to help me this weekend. Teasing the roots is a must and so many ppl miss this step. Thanks for making this video

I have always loosened the root ball on all my outdoor and indoor plants. Haven’t killed any yet. My problem was too much water BUT I have learned my lesson through the years. I’ve been looking at videos from others and I was surprised to see that they just dump the bush or tree in the ground without loosening the roots. So I don’t know if it really matters. It’s like everyone has an opinion if you should add gravel in bottom of pots or not. I guess whatever works for everyone 🤷‍♀️. I enjoyed your video, thanks.
@kolourblind3124

There’s a lot of opinions out there, I don’t trust the contractor types that just toss plants in, they don’t care or sometimes even know how the plants are doing a year later. Loosening the roots is a great idea however watering daily is not for this plant. Even the tag from the nursery on the 20 plants I just had delivered say 2-3 times a week. Without a reason to stretch your roots the plant will not. Also mulch should never touch the base of the tree. A year later it will begin to turn yellow and die if you don’t fix it.

The problem is when you plant them so close to each other they burn each other out where they touch. I plant my Giant Green variety 6 feet apart. In 10 years you have a 20+ foot privacy shrubbery with no holes and thriving plants.

I am just about to purchase 13 Nigra Arborvitae's. They are 5-6 feet tall. They all have a burlap bag around the roots. The place I'm getting them said to plant it with them on. Should I do that or should I take it off and fluff the roots like you did?

I planted 10 of these, 6.5 feet a piece, after 2 weeks they are starting to brown. I got them direct from a nursery in burlap so not much of a root ball, I feel I planted them well but not sure what is happening. Any tips? Is it too late to save them? I water them daily
@NorceCodine
@NorceCodine 3 года назад
If they are starting to brown then its too late. They will get totally brown in another week. I would say the important thing is not to "cement" them into the ground with a solid layer of soil above the root, because then water actually doesn't reach the roots, no matter how much water. The best is to buy them in a pot and plant them like in the video. Nurseries use (usually) good quality soil for potting, so if you let the top of the pot level with the ground, then water will get to the roots and its still in good soil.

I loved your voice and nice, pleasant facial expressions, and planned to watch the whole video but then, there it was, the fatal flaw. There is waaay too much time spent with the camera just watching you dig a hole. I mean, just digging a freakin' hole. That's a killer boring thing to videotape and make people watch. Who wants to see you digging? Show the first shovelful and the last one. Then go straight to your talk on the root soil. Keep the pace going, don't make people have to stifle their yawns and pray you'll get going already.
