I do my peach seeds differently and I will have a peach sprout in 2 weeks. I Crack the peach hull and soat the pit in a glass of distilled water for 2 days with a dark cloth on the jar mouth and set in window for 2 days. Then I scrape off the outer exterior of pit carefully not to damage the pit.then put paper towels on a tray wet with distilled water and in 6 to 7 days it will have a root growing. Then I plant in orchard potting mix. Then put in direct sunlight for 6 hours a day.
Good job. I would suggest using the hose to wash away soil when separating plants. If you have a self pollinating cultivar each seed will be true to the mother plant.
Thanks for the great video. I did the same thing with a couple of Peach pits and a couple of Cherry and now I have 4 saplings growing that I hope to transplant this summer
Yes I do crack them out of the shell which speed up the process, I also peel away the thin brown layer which completely eliminates the cold stratification process and in about 2-3 weeks those seeds should be germinated.. I have a video on my channel
Everyone that I have looked at on RU-vid regarding peaches, they say, 99% of the time, the peach that you ate and grew the pit from will produce same type of peach, especially red peaches, they generally come out true to form. I know that a lot of peaches the red ones people usually got a stone and planted it and it produced with peaches. In New Zealand, they called black boy peaches which could be deemed prejudice I don’t know, but it’s not meant to be and everyone seem to just grow them from these peach pets and they’re great, but now you don’t get them as easily as you did at one time, the Rizzoli’s are blackboy peaches in someone’s garden. I’ve just got to stones, that I’m going to put in my fridge for a few months and hope they grow. I must say your way of growing is quite different. You throw them all into one pot and then pull them apart. Where is everyone else puts one stone to one pot. So I’m hoping to grow my two stones and get to peach trees. Sorry if this is hard to read as I’m speaking it because my hands have arthritis and it’s hard typing so sometimes the words that are formed are not correct like it might cool the peach stone a pet which is really annoying. Anyway thank you for your videos.
There is a faster method that I use the crack, soak and peel method which will be ready to plant in two weeks compared to two months.. Let me know if you're interested in the process please?
Yes, talk to text is a bit annoying sometimes but, don’t worry. Your point was clear!! Guess I’m getting used to “tech speak “, lol!! PS Good luck with your pits. I have 3 in the fridge right now. Will see how they turn out in a few months!!
I am definitely interested in that process! I had one of 4 pits that opened an d out came a little almond looking thing. I was told it would not do a thing so I tossed it out. In your experience are the peaches produced the same as the parent seed? Thanks!
This was interesting to watch. How long will it take your peach tree to bare fruit? I am so new to gardening and enjoying all the new things I am learning. New to your channel hopefully I will learn alot from you. Big Thumbs up for your future Peach trees!
Its a great video. my question is I am saving all my fruit seeds and throw them in the forest when i am driving out of town you thing these seeds will germinate? I really appreciate you answer 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
New sub here! My question is it's August 1st, I just harvested all my peaches, how long can I let the pits go before I start cold stratification? Cuase I don't want them to go too long
I've got some peach trees growing and they were kind if stagnant for awhile. About 1.5 feet tall and only the main stem and leaves. No branches and I can't find any information on pruning them this young. I ended up pruning the bottom half of the leaves off of a couple of them and they exploded with branches. Will that harm they're long-term growth? Can you point me to more information about it?
I rooted around a little and came up with a few links for you to check out: theorchardstephenville.com/pruning-baby-peach-trees/, and www.starkbros.com/growing-guide/how-to-grow/fruit-trees/peach-trees/pruning
Hey bro thanks for the video really informative. Just a quick question: when I put the shells from the fruit in the fridge so I need to change the paper towel or just in the beginning to be moist, do they need to be moist all the time or? Cheers
I usually only have the original paper towel in the bag. If the bag is sealed well, the moisture should stay in. If I notice stuff growing on the paper towel I'll change it as well. Sometimes you'll get mold and stuff growing on the paper towel.
When you put the seed in the refrigerator, how often do you put water in the bag or do you leave it alone in there for 4 months without taking any other steps?
I usually never add additional water. If the contents of the bag were dry, I'd add some more, but if the bag is sealed and without holes, there should be no need to add water.
The paper towel is damp, not soaked. It is in the refrigerator that slows mold growth down. And sometimes I do get a little and as long as it is not excessive, I can just ignore it. The other option is add a 10% bleach solution to the moist paper towel.
I noticed that you didn't break the hard shell. All the other videos I see suggests that I break it. I would prefer not to so I guess I can plant shell and all??
@@greatescapefarms Thank you for the information! I have put pit and all into a bag with a moist paper towel in the refrigerator and will pull them out February 1st and plant in pot in the greenhouses. Thanks again!!
@@KarasCyborg That would certainly work. I used a vice in my work shop and it worked ok, but again, time consuming. I found that they germinated pretty good by just planting without breaking the pit open, so I went that route.
I do not really like the absense of any direct information whatsoever. You planted the pits and they magicly grew overnight into adult saplings? Was any fertilizer used during those months? What was the light and watering they needed? Did you do any pruning? Sorry, but this 6 minute video did not give me any info on how to grow a peach seedling besides a cold stratification process.
Mother Nature grow peaches from seed all on her own, no human intervention. Just plant the seeds in the ground and see what happens. It’s supposed to be a fun experiment, don’t over think it.
It can be done with peaches, plums, cherries, nectarines and apricot. Depending on the variety of fruit, some will be more similar to parent plants than others.
They will come close to "true to seed" in many cases. Most peaches require cross pollination. With cross pollination you get genetics from both trees and not exactly "true to seed". There may be some varieties of peaches that are self fertile. If that is the case, you will very likely end up with a seed that is "true to seed".
@@greatescapefarms from what I’ve read peach trees don’t need cross pollination like other fruit trees such as apples, plum, pears, etc. peach trees are self fertile.
I GAVE YOU A THUMBS DOWN EVEN IF you SOUND CHIRPY. I am not sure of dates, and worse have no idea where you are at. In april minnesota has snow as does nebraska, indiana..... ad nauseum. please try to clarify...or don't
You certainly seem like a grumpy old coot. In the time you took to write the comment you could have easily looked at the the about tab and seen where I'm located. Sorry I can't include that info on every video for grumpy old coots.
