Hello. Its the first month of winter in australia. No snow just very cold air and windy. My stems for my oriental lilies are about 30cm tall. Do i cut them all the way to the bottom as the bulbs will grow a new stem? Can i dig up the bulbs and just replant like what you did in the video or should i wait till spring time? As the stem has multiple leaves that are just starting to turn yellow. I have brought them inside my home as i think they dont like the cold winter air. Thank you

Hi. the lilies are very winter hardy. if your lily plants have dried up you can cut away the stems, if you want to dig and check if they have multiplied you can. you can sperate the bulbs and plant them . or even you can just keep the pot in a sheltered area until spring . i hope it helps

I have 6 bulbs to plant in a pot. How many bulbs per pot and what size pot? I didn't know how much soil you put in the pot before the bulbs and how much soil on top. Thank you for the information!

you can look at your bulb sizes and assess how big they are , and how big of a cotainer you'll need if you plant them about 2-3 inches apart.I had just a little more than 1/3rd of the container filled with the potting mix.you can top put abot 6-8 inches of soil on top. don't worry how deep they're planted, once it gets warmer the bulbs will poke through however deep they are. you're welcome, I am glad my videos were helpful.

I planted some oriental lily bulbs in a pot yesterday. I placed the pot in a shady area for it to form roots. Is this correct or should I move my pot to a sunny location. I’m in Northern California zone 10b and we’re having spring like weather here already and it’s only early February. Thank you any advice would be appreciated! 😄

That's great. the placement of pots during winter does'nt really matter in my opnion. I have placed all my pots in shaded area right infront of my patio door - so I can monitor them closely and keep an eye on the squirrel attacks. the lily plants usually start to produce shoots during early- mid spring, so at that time when you some growth happening its essential you move them to a full sun location. for now you can do whatever is convenient to you.I hope it helps.

@@SanaAsGARDEN Thank you for your quick response! Ok, I will leave the pots in the shade until I see top growth about an inch or two. Then I will move the pots to a sunny location that gets morning sun about 5 hours. I will water sparingly because we do get alot of morning dew and fog. Thanks again and keep up the informative content , it’s very helpful. 🙏🏼

After the blooms have done blooming you can cut away the bloom stalks and let the plant die back on its own until late summer or autumn.

Asiatic Lily bulbs in my area sprouts every year in March and produces flowers. I planted an Oriental Lily last year, will they sprout just like my Asiatic ones? If yes, then which month is their sprouting time?

How to winterize those bulbs for a Weather like Canada?

You can store them in peat moss or coco coir with a little moisture. if you can store them in a basement or garage it can help greatly to keep them safe. Otherwise the Oriental lilies are hardy up to -32c so if it gets colder than that where you live its better to place them in a protected area like a garage or shed or basement.

you did not mention the pH of the soil. As far as I know oriental lilies require acidic soil. you have not mentioned this?

You can use acidic soil or ericaceous compost for planting them. I am using regular all-purpose compost. I hope that helps.

Hi. oriental lily bulbs can be planted in autumn or spring. they flower in the summer, so planting in the spring also is fine. any kind of flowering bulb needs a cold stratification period, which is 8-12 weeks of winter chill which is a cold dormant period. they will start to sprout - start growing sprouts in spring when the temperature starts to increase. I am guessing you are from India. so you won’t get any freezing temperature you will have to store them to give them artificial winter I have a detailed video on how to store similar bulbs if you don’t get a freezing winter, studio.ru-vid.comqj5RjFXLBRE/edit please watch this for more info.
