If you know someone with a plant ask for a root around 6 inch's long lay it long ways about an inch deep. That's how I got red color. But haven't been able to order Roots any more been years ago when I got mine my sister wanted some I gave her Roots she still has hers . A flower show said she can't find the ones I got.

I put the seeds inside damp paper towel then inside a ziploc to sprout, You get more coming up that way

I have gotten an almost 100% germination rate by soaking in water in a Tupperware container for a week or two, changing out the water every few days. Figured this out on accident. I had totally forgotten about them and all of a sudden they were all germinated in the container. So excited.

I just put a bunch in a tupperware container, covered, and placed in a window and most of them germinated in the water. I will be planting them. So excited. I think that was the best idea so you actually see when they are ready to go into soil.

Thanks so much for the pink cloud seeds. I just planted them in a large hanging planter , covered it with clear wrap and set them in my outdoor greenhouse shed. Hopefully they will germinate! I did nick the seeds, so maybe this will speed the process. I appreciate you posting this video- nice to see what the seedlings look like when they germinate...

Diane, To plant seeds like hybiscus, peppers, rose of sharon etc I use a pencil. Touch the eraser to the soil, put it on the seed and it will stick to the eraser. Move over to the cell pack and push the seed into the ground equal to the narrow dimension of the width. use the pointy end to back fill after the cell packs all have seeds in them. Water from the bottom every few days but not so often as to make the soil soggy.

I'm lucky that I have a neighbor who cuts hers off before winter. She gave me pods. I think I went overboard and live in a small apartment. I have so many that sprouted. I got tired of planting individually. I put a lot in a pot and they have all come up.

I saved the seeds from a number of plants last fall, stuck them in the freezer for a month, let them thaw for a few weeks, stuck them in the freezer again. Early this years I planted them in sixteen packs, around twenty seeds per cell some cells produced seedlings within a couple of weeks, some cells have taken four or more months to show any sign of life bur they are now full of little plants. It is August in Colorado and I'm wondering what to do with the plants over the winter? They seem too small to survive outside. (I planted a "grown from seed" plant outside last year, it did not survive.)

The seeds have a very hard covering. After the the cooling process, put the seeds in a pickle jar with aquarium gravel and shake about 5 minutes. That helps to break the hard covering allowing germination

I got a huge plant over 15 years old . Some I ordered from root about 6inchs long . All you do is dig a hole an half inch deep and as long as the root cover with dirt. I planted mine in the ground. I have red , white , white and red , pink. These are the old timer ones really hardy. I live in zone 5. Mines the huge ones

The plastic bag you had the seeds in looked to be closed keeping all the moisture in which is why it was molding. Try leaving the bag open of just cover them with a light plastic but they need to breath. I have 9 colors of hibiscus in my garden.

Great video Diane. I live in western Pennsylvania, outside Pittsburgh, and have several beautiful and huge, some of mine are 7' hardy hibiscus' in my yard (several varieties). In the fall I will definitely save some seeds and try the paper towel germination method. I may have missed it in your video but when should I place my seeds in the paper towels? Jan, Feb, Mar? Also, approximately how tall should the seedlings be before I transplant them in the ground? Thank you so much for all your help and I did subscribe :).

+Cynthia Car a good time would be late Dec, early Jan.. gives them plenty of time.. you may need to put these in the frig then pull them out to plant.. transplant when they get their first true leaves.. or you could do it later.. I have with no issues.. thanks for subbing my channel..

After how many years will seedlings planted from sources bloom?
@dianemummvideos

Plants often bloom from seed in their first year and will often self seed in suitable soil conditions. Division: Perennial hibiscus can be divided in spring. Be careful working around the soft new shoots. They do not usually tolerate fall division or transplanting

Thanks for the helpful video! I bought varietal hibiscus seeds. I really liked these varieties in the online store. I waited this package for 1.5 months and finally I've got those seeds! I haven't planted them yet. But I plan in the coming days. I heard that you can grow seeds in slightly wet perlite by placing them next to a hot battery. I don't know if this method is worth trying? It worked with the seeds of daylilys...

Well I think I learned something, imagine that as old as I am. Did you say that these Hibiscus come back from ground level. I always thought of them as shrubs or trees didn't know there was a perennial variety that comes back from the ground level. The only one that I know of that is hearty enough for this area is, Rose Of Sharon Bush or Althea Bush Hibiscus syriacus, I don't have one but there is a very old one at my aunt's house.
