Lots of plants do well in light birch shade, such as evergreen ferns for foliage. Good herbaceous plants include, Thalictrum aqualigifolium, derivatives of Geranium walicianum such as Rozanne, Helliborus orientalis types, Brunnera 'looking glass' and similar, really good, Dicentra formosa types are good early flowerers and rogersias are always great particularly on heavy soil. I could go on and on.
