Good to see your not shouting and swearing at your apprentice, back in my day apprentices were treated like shit and you had to become thick skinned very quick, your patience and skill is for all to see. Top bloke

Know what you mean; been on the receiving end... There's no need for it. Especially if you want them to stay. They're you're investment (time, money, friendship etc etc) - So wouldn't you look after your investment? I'm not talking wiping arse and hand-holding; but the bare minimum "be nice". Just seems to be a "thing" in the industry, which seems to be fading which is good. Google had/has done it right - They used to (or still idk) treat their employees exceptionally and invest in them. What happens? Loyalty, good work, and they re-invest in the company (teaching others, staying, skill up).

Back in my day, too. That was less than 15 years. Treated like a total cunt, alot of tradesman have the attitude of I was treated like a cunt so I treat them like a cunt, I never treated badly or shouted at an apprentice. They are just kids. Usually,

We all start somewhere. I went to college , lost my place through having a daughter born and work load. Decided to contact local plasterers to volunteer help in return for training .found a little Irish man!! Best plasterer I've had the pleasure of working with .. taught me everything I needed to put a nice spread on !! 👍👍

You’re a great teacher, and Layton appears to have a good attitude & initiative. Looks like a winning combination to me. If he’s smart, he’ll stick with you and soak up your knowledge. Being able to have a laugh, whilst getting the job done makes all the difference! BTW, I think you’ll be moving on with a TV career very quickly. You’re made for it.

Hi kirk I mix in a bucket and put the bucket inside a bigger bucket, then three quarters fill water tip bag in at a time, slow mix ,then faster,,,any slop goes in big bucket,so I can do it in one mix, any way luv the videos and tea shirts,cheers kirk

Oh man, when you mentioned about the holes for the lights to tidy them up reminds me of when we were on site there was a really bad tempered sparky, so on the last house we did ( it was a big site back in the 80s, one house after another). We virtually almost filled the socket and light sockets with plaster, serves him right 😂

Why do plasterers work out of buckets rather than tipping it onto a board on a stand like they used to? Would of thought that would be easier as you don't have to keep putting your float down to load your hawk? And your bucket can be cleaned out straight away ready for another mix? I'm a builder (done a bit) not a plasterer. Just curious? 👍

I just turned 27 and wanna get into plastering but worried where I don’t have any experience in plastering I’d have to take to big of a pay cut and not afford my bills. Is this something I should worry about? What should I do? Thanks

Depends where you look for your work. I've met people who have had the same sort of circumstance (kids etc) and I know they've been able to work something out with whoever their employer is. You just have to ask that's the only way you'll find out mate :)
