right off the bat i love this guy cause he recognizes that he's going through a blacking out phase. Even so phase or not i just find it good that people can notice it in themselves and have fun with it

I have a few cans of plasti dip laying around. I plan on doing this once I get some days off. I have those same wheels. All I have let to black out are those and my running boards.

for the center caps, i normally just use the handle of the screwdriver, and hit it out. they'll pop right out. works the same way on the balancer

I work for a body shop and a guy had us Plasti dip his chrome rims. When he traded his car off he had us remove the Plasti dip...if u plan on removing it make sure you plenty of material on it...it make your life a whole lot easier

It's holding up well had it 3 weeks, 1 truck wash a few rain storms, only issue is when the wheels are on the truck the tire gushes at the bottom and started grabbing and peeling the plasti dip off the bead of the rim so I just ended up peeling the bead off on all 4 rims so now the bead, lugs and center cab are all silver, otherwise no issues unless you hit a curb or a big rock, and don't scrub them when you wash. also when they put my new tires on the scraped it up a bit.

Not sure exactly, mine is not an R/T I just put the badge on it. But I would guess an R/T runs about 30-35k depending on the year. They are pretty much equipped the same as a SPORT model but they are standard cab and usually only 2wd.

I sold the wheels but depends how you treat them. if you hand wash the truck or as long as you don't pressure wash the wheels it lasts a long time especially if it's clear coated, but if you are in deep mud or snow it will scrape at the plasti dip. Mine was fine until the scratched it when dismounting the tires.

yo nice vid man i have 2006 dodge ram and i want to do the same exact thing I'm going to go try out that product now thinks I didn't want to spend the money to go get a painting plus it will be permanent if I do that

ill be honest, thought this was going to be some idiot ruining his new truck rims but ill be dam'd this turned out pretty nice and the fact that its not permenant is awesome. I would think of this as like a protective coating and when you sell your truck you could pill it off and have perfect wheels. thanks.

i did plastidip on my chrome 2012 ram rims last winter. still looks good but a few places around the edge got chipped from gettin my tires switched to summer tires and again bak to winter tires. i used 4 cans and caked it on there good.

Yeah I don't recomment doing it for winter, once you get in a few inches of snow and it touches your rims it's like sand blasting your rims. Mine held up great in the summer until i had new tires mounted they scuffed my plasti dip

Removal tip. Plasti Dip, Peel Coat even Silicone window or tub n tile caulking. Spray WD-40 on it if it has hardened with age. Plasi Dip and caulking can be sprayed and allowed to soften up over a couple of hours or spray it 2-3 times throughout the day. It will save a lot of tedious low production scraping. Peel Coat is a bit different. WD-40 softens it up like the others but letting it soak in is not necessary. WD-40 cuts Peel Coat and to a small extent it can be buffed off with a rag.

Sorry I can't I sold these rims a while back. They held up great for about 3 weeks before I had new tires put on them then they scuffed them up at the tire place. They will hold up to sun and rain no problem but this is no permanent rim paint. Cold weather, curb grinding or pressure washing would mess it up.

Thanks. It's 20% all the way around, 30% is lowest legal here so technichally it's illegal but it's not as dark as limo tint and i've had ito ver a year with no harrassment by cops, they usually don't hand out tint tickets and such unless you're speeding or doing something else to draw attention.

I have a 2013 dodge durango and I did my rims. The next day I go to work, get out and the paint came off clean as a whistle. But it stayed on the hub cap and lug nuts. I'm puzzled.

This is my 3rd time doing this and I've never had a problem. I used 1 whole can per rim. I wanna say I used about 6 coats.

has it ever started to peel off from washing it or just normal wear and tear? i guess it wouldn't matter because it's so cheap, but it just seems like you might have to re-do this every couple of months.

I did mine, but for some reason it came off after I drove it in the highway the next day....looks like air got into the plastidip from inside the wheel...any tips? Did Yours come off??

As if there’s a big air bubble under it? That’s odd. Mine never had an issue until they scuffed it while dismounting my tires. My guess is that you maybe didn’t get the wheel clean enough or you used something too greasy to clean the wheel and the plasti-dip couldn’t properly adhere. I’d peel it again and make sure you clean every little nook, then make sure the wheels are completely dry and try a few more coats. Temperature may be a factor too if it’s too cold when you apply it.

Yes sir. I think any wheel regardless of manufacturer that's called a "chrome clad" means it's steel with cheap shiny plastic hah.

Yep, buddy of mine clear coated the rims on his girlfriends Fusion and it's holding up good.

What kind of paint should I use I I want to paint the ram logo an nuts in the rim red?

I don't have any experience with that, but I would do red plasti-dip. If you want to use actual paint, you'd have to scuff up your center cap with sandpaper and use paint that says it works on plastic because most paint won't. Also I would imagine if you paint your lug nuts, the paint would come off when you re-install the lugs.

Hah, yes definately nice it's not permanent. My buddy did the same on his girlfriends Ford Fusion and clear coated them to give a shine. Mine got messed up when the tires got dismounted.

That looked fantastic! I have just purchased a 2014 with the same wheels, "chrome clad" & there all messed up from acid cleaners. Thought they was just skin/covers & that I may try buying new skins, or painting these. How has this plasti stuff held up for you?

As long as you aren't curbing your wheels or pointing a pressure washer at them point blank, it's pretty durable. Mine was fine until they scuffed it up removing my tires from the rims but I figured that would happen.

Do you have to spray the back of the rim? or maybe the inside?

Don't have to. I didn't but it might help prevent peeling, just make sure you clean the back of the rims well to get brake dust off.

I have already plasti dipped my rims but I couldnt reach the tiny spaces on the side (front face) is there anything I can do to fix it?

DriftingElectrode Not sure exactly what you mean but I know it can be hard to get in some spots with a spray can. Try using a full can rather than a more empty one, this will allow you to tilt the can more or try rolling the wheel while you spray. You may be able to touch up those spots without having to strip the rim and do it all over.

Was fine for a few months until I got the tires replaced and then the tire shop scuffed the plasti dip so I pulled it off. It’s fine so long as you aren’t scrubbing at it or rubbing against curbs

Lasted just fine for a few months as long as you avoid any curb rash or heavy scrubbing. I ended up getting different tires put on and they scuffed a bunch of it up when changing the tires so I peeled it back off at that point.

Nope. I'd be more concerned about the heat from the brakes but hat wasn't an issue either.

Took 2 full cans at 4 coats per wheel with the 20" wheels. I'd recommend 5 coats thought. Thicker the better.

I no longer have the truck but they held up great until I got the tires replaced and the tire place scratched the plasti dip changing out the tires. The nice part though is that you can just spray a few new coats over it and be good. I’ve seen it last quite a long time on other vehicles so long as you’re not rubbing against curbs or anything.

I ended up getting different wheels a few months later but I've seen plasti dip last years so long as it's sprayed in enough coats and you don't scrape against curbs, etc.

Bro....you couldn’t taken off the “chrome” hub cap. That’s all it is. The rim is alloy with a chrome hub cap.

Only if you like the look of fake chrome 😂 The rest of the truck was color matched white with the body. Bumpers and grille were all white. Door handles and mirrors black. Only thing chrome WAS the wheels. They weren’t terrible, but they just didn’t have much right to be on a truck with no other chrome.

+PkwyDr shouldn't be. I changed tires for a living and you have to take the covers off to balance them. nice aluminum rims underneath the chrome though.

tpike46w Because a $6.00 can is more economical than $180 and up rims..about $30 as opposed to $800..mine has held up after yr. besides where wheel was removed for service
