Hi, nice lesson. Great variation. The one that I have seen in the past was playing c e g a , f a c d , g b d e on the left individually and playing the ceg , fac , gbd on the right respectively on the and. This tutorial is great for practice. Thank you for posting it. Looking forward to seeing more.

Great lesson. One thing baffles me. In bassline 3, how do you know to use b flat (instead of b natural) in measures that use the I chord? b flat is not a note in the C scale while b natural is. Same issue with the e flat in measures that use the IV chord. Thanks.
@BitesizePiano
@BitesizePiano 4 года назад
The Bb is part of the C7 chord, which is the major triad with the minor 7th. The Eb is the part of the F7 chord (same theory applied!)
@dougjolley4849
@dougjolley4849 4 года назад
@@BitesizePiano Thanks so much for your reply. Pardon me for pressing the issue; but, here's where I'm getting confused: It is my understanding that, by definition, the first 4 chords of a 12-bar-blues progression is the I chord (in the key of C that would be the C chord). It would seem to me that if we add a Bb to the C chord to make it into a C7, that would take it out of the definition of a 12-Bar-Blues progression because we are using a C7 chord as the I chord instead of a plan vanilla C chord. Perhaps I'm putting too fine of a point on it; but, it appears that we have some lattitude and I'm just wondering how we tell how much lattitude we have. Put differently, what tweaks can we make to the progression without taking it out of the definition of 12-bar-blues and what tweaks take the progression out of the definition of 12-bar blues? I do hope this is clear. Thanks.
@rupa1772
@rupa1772 4 года назад
Hi!.In a 12 bar blues progression there are 4 beats in a measure in a 4 4 voicing.Will each beat represent a chord played ,so 4 beats represent chord played 4times and should it be played on bass ?
@BitesizePiano
@BitesizePiano 4 года назад
It depends what the left-hand chords are doing! Typically you would play on the beat as it helps 'drive' the music.

I know nothing about piano but I do know a little music theory. Weren't you technically stepping out of key when playing the third version of the lick in the key of C? I thought all the white keys are whole notes and C major should have no flats or sharps, correct? Edit: I'm not saying you're playing it wrong or anything cause that's definitely the traditional 12 bar blues lick but I'm just wondering if my rudimentary understanding of piano keys is correct
@BitesizePiano
@BitesizePiano 4 года назад
Yes I guess you could say that! The blues scale is a set formula and isn't a diatonic major/minor scale, which is why it sounds so distinct. The 3rd bassline is adding the dominant 7th on top, which means the 7th note taken from the minor scale (in this instance a Bb). You're correct that C major doesn't have any sharps or flats.
