But as we explain in depth and detail in the full course and full lessons on the site- generally speaking when playing simple or sparse phrases, what’s most important is using the two bar quinto lock as a reference point and how you choose to start each phrase, as well as the cadence you use to finish it off. This will determine whether or not a simple shape sounds “crossed” with the clave or not. The simple three note shape by itself, from the first exercise in this video can be played on either side of the clave, yes.
