Sometimes as a 11 hcp we look at this hole and think we should be getting par as it’s a straight away hole, but when we look at it as Genevieve does we would be happy walking away with 5. Golf IS HARD and the more help we get in realising our strengths and weakness is great. I’m never going to have a game like hers and realising that 20yds wide is ok for my ability is ok. Don’t beat yourself up about it, but listening to her vids has made me so much better because instead of letting it rip now I might hit a 5 wood and make par. Thank you

I would tee up on the right and aim straight at that really big bunker face down the left and then miss it with my normal shot shape. Put 10 yards of left to right on it. Should work well as long as I don't pull it.......

I've learned so much about golf from you- most importantly, how to manage expectations, manage the course, and keep smiling! I wonder, if that's the hardest hole on that course and you still think about a birdie when you tee off, I wonder if there are any holes that, right form the start, you play for par. In other words, does the threat of trouble outweigh the desire to go low to the extent that you play the hole for par?
@GenevieveLingGolf
@GenevieveLingGolf Год назад
Hey! I think when I say I’m still aiming for birdie it more of means I don’t approach the hole thinking that a birdie is not a possibility. I’m still doing my best to hit it as close to the hole as possible (while being reasonable)! In fact I think to play for par, it might rely more on something like a pins position rather than the hole itself because there are pins where you can’t attack and you know that giving yourself a putt on the green is what you’re aiming for rather than hitting it as close as possible 😊
@TheBatugan77
@TheBatugan77 Год назад
Back when people tended the flag, I was taught to hit the ball closer than the person tending the flag... In other words, kind of a three foot circle. That helped my lag putting greatly.

higher handicapper - I'm defensive on a few holes. Avoid a disaster ... and then pick up shots when I can. On another note, I'm super-regretful that I've been to KL but never played golf there, and this course looks epic!

Only ever been to Malaysia once, a town called Lamut. Pretty sure it was before Genevieve's time (mid 1990s). Never golfed, but I do remember the folks being unbelievably friendly.

I really liked your analysis of the hole Gen! It does look like a tough one for sure. I mean personally the distance wouldn't be too bad (i think it was 400m from the black?!), i'd probably hit anything between a 9 or a 7 in. But the tee shot is pretty tough to place by the looks of it and the green is well defended. Any left or back left pin seems tough, especially if you haven't got an angle from the right! Great challenging hole!

Yes! Looks easy when you approach it but when you play it, it’s definitely a tricky one 😊

Unfortunately haven't played here, 398m plays driver and wedge for me, and target from the tee looks reasonably wide in my landing area, so probably wouldn't be my hardest hole. I'm more likely to mess up holes where your forced to use a shorter club and play for position. Great content as always gen
@GenevieveLingGolf
@GenevieveLingGolf Год назад
Yup! Like I said longer hitters would probably find this hole easier :) but there would definitely be some fun holes for you to play on this course if you ever make it out here! Short but tight where placement is key 😄

Yes, I have a hole that often leaves me a ball above my feet approach. Over compensating for the spin axis draw, I often block it and miss the green. A shorter tee club might be more prudent to give a flatter but longer approach in......... Bogey either way.
@GenevieveLingGolf
@GenevieveLingGolf Год назад
Yes then you kind of want to find the best place to miss it that’s gives you the “easiest” chipping opportunity for an up and down! Knowing where to miss is just as important 😄

***LONG POST ALERT!*** Three toughest par 5's I've played, all on Long Island NY: (1) 500+ with a fence all along the left side the whole way, and a highway beyond (Bay Shore). (2) 500+ with a fence along the RIGHT side the whole way, and private property beyond... (Middle Island CC). Both (1) and (2) could be very expensive. Lots of times I'd score 5 physical shots, but incur penalties/lost balls to ruin the score! (3) 500+ bottle shaped hole, also at Middle Island CC. We teed off at the 'bottom' of the bottle (wide) and the green was like a bottle cap atop a long neck (narrow). If you hit your tee shot wide right or left, but before the bottle neck, you were in bounds, but had no clear shot to the green. Thus, even though you were in the fairway you had to waste shot getting to the center. We called it the 'Bo Derek Hole', because if you weren't careful, you could score a perfect 10! 😮😯😦😵

I, too, tend to hit my shots with a cut to the right, the biggest difference, is that even if I got that 2nd to the green within 8', I could still be counted on to 2-3 putt for bogey or double.. LOL! I work on my putting, but as I get older (now 54), my eyesight, even with glasses, is starting to let me down on the greens... Thanks for the great vlogs Gen, hope to see you playing on Golf Channels coverage of the LET this or next year!!

Gen, try keeping the right knee angle at setup the same through backswing. You straighten the right knee on the backswing, leads to a 2 way miss inconsistent strike and loss of power. Look at the top 20 on LPGA ALL of them keep the angle. Just my 2 cents, if you don't change it, you're still cute. Cheers best!
@anthonyrobinson2292
@anthonyrobinson2292 Год назад
Careful. Many different ways to strike a golf ball. I would encourage Gen to try straightening the right leg more. I teach the Mike Austin golf swing. He said you’re able to get off a straight leg faster than a bent one.

@@anthonyrobinson2292 stand at the short stop position and have a major league player hit a hard ground ball. Bend over with your legs completely straight. I'll bet you don't move to well do you? Until you bend the knee, Cheers!
