What a kind, clear and beautiful explanation about the timeless use and intention of the ancient Tibetan singing bowl. Thank you. Namasté Peace. Peace. Peace 🙏🏼
I just ordered 2. I ordered from you because I love the bowls, but also you give the buyer a chance to HEAR the tone before purchasing! No other site I saw anyway, offered that! I do have a question though. can you play 2 bowls simultaneously? If so, how, and if not, why? Thank you so very much! ~Namaste~
My bowl arrived today The Ancient Self Ohm small. Cannot get it to sing from suede side but the wooden side of the striker I can. Also, I can get it to sing two different tone sounds depending on which part of the bowl the striker moves around. There is a higher pitch and lower pitch. It’s only the first day, so let’s see what happens after a few days of practice.
I'm enjoying this explanation, but noticed something really interesting: coming close to the 4 minute mark, the close-up clips of the rotation for singing show you using the wooden portion of the mallet, while the shots showing the entire scene show you using the end of the mallet that is covered in suede. So I tried using the suede end of the mallet, and it dampens the sound, which , as a musician, I expected. Not sure why the suede end is used for this video, but maybe there is a secret way to get the bowl to sing doing it this way.
Heh - after the 4 minute mark, you mention that other portion can be used, so I"ll be looking for the part of the singing bowl course that teaches how to use this end for sustained sound.
The sides of the mallet don’t produce a different pitch!! It’s the change of timbre, not pitch..(as any musician would confirm). The bowl is made to vibrate at one frequency which can’t be changed so the pitch stays the same.
You're on the right track: It's what overtones are produced. The harder the mallet, that more prominent the higher overtones will be. If you listen with the wooden mallet, the lower pitch is still there. It's a cool effect to play with.
Hey! Thank you so much for your interest. This is the exact bowl Luna is playing in our video, it's called the Sunset Bowl: www.theohmstore.co/collections/singing-bowls/products/the-infinity-bowl
Hello my best friend gifted me with 1 for Christmas and I noticed the mallet is all wood which causes this off balance sound is it supposed to have the have “suede” around the end of it? Mine doesn’t have that maybe that’s why I can’t get a good vibration when playing it... could someone respond
Hi Nidhi! Thanks so much for leaving us a note here -- we obviously messed something up! I just emailed you, take a look at that because we want to get you the correct wallet!
Im kinda disappointed with the ancient bowl i bought, why is it so hard to play it with the wooden mallet or striker, i just cannot achieve and sustain the long singing sound while performing the mallet in circular motion??? It just stops the sound! Ughh why is that??? I’m not happy with my purchase of this. Can I ask for a just little compensation for this expensive Ancient bowl I thought I would be happy but no it didn’t meet my expectations…please? Hope to hear from you The Ohm store 💯🙏🏽🙌🏼🥺
