Hi there! I just found your amazing channel and videos! I’m a HUGE Toto fan, and I’m a keys player (only picked it up 2 years ago thanks to Covid). It would be safe for you to assume my fave keys players of all time are David Paich and Steve Porcaro! I’m now doing hard level tutorials so I’ve definitely gotten better in the past 2 years. I’m learning awesome theory and techniques from Rick Beato on RU-vid, but I’ve been looking everywhere for the kind of step by step breakdown of Toto songs on keyboard, and you good sir, are my saving grace! I absolutely love your teaching style. And up to now, I’ve been learning from videos using the midi sliding notes overlay. But I actually learn better from you! So thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind contributions to the world of music knowledge, and I look forward to your future tutorials and projects. I’ll be sure to plug your channel on other comments on other similar channels as well. You are that good! Thanks so much once again! I wish you much success and support with your channel and future endeavours! Cheers!
Lovely tutorial mate; I had to sub! I've just bought a Korg PA600, so trying to learn how to play it from scratch. It's nice to see a tutorial where more than just the piano is used. It takes me back to going to college in North Lincolnshire (UK) on cold miserable February mornings in '82, and just 21 yrs old ;-) ;-)
I also try to keep it as close to the original, and in intro third chord is pure C#m, without "7". Also, the second chord in intro to my ears is E, with bass part on note G#, not G#m. I also don't hear that disonant E note in verse, in original.
Hey, thanks for including that bass part! I actually move from the bass guitar to a split keyoard for this one. Or that's the intent, anyway. So this will come in really handy! I thought about tapping the bass part on the bass while playing the keys with the right hand, but that''s just too hard! Especially considering that I'll also be singing either lead or backing vocals all the way through. Hopefully our guitar player can pick up the marimba. So thanks again, a tremendous help!!!
Hi Rob, great tutorial, tks a lot! I am having difficult in order to play on a keyboard. I mean: when I play on a piano keys is ok, but when I try on a keyboard keys, my fingers slides... Specially when I hit the black notes, then my fingers slips. Do have a tip for that?
I get it. I prefer weighted keys for all things piano related. That lighter touch on an unweighted key bed can feel different for sure. I would just encourage you to put some time in on the unweighted keys to get your muscle memory used to it. If you still can’t get accustomed to the feel you may have to spend a little more money and get a weighted key bed that you like the feel of. Not all weighted key beds are created equally so try a few out at a guitar center and see which ones you connect with.
Hey Rob... Thanks for sharing this... If you dont mind, could you have a tutorial on the instrumental (adlib) part of this song? Greatly appreciate it man!!!
