This is honestly the best sonic guide i've ever watched, really well made! The only thing I would add is sonic's turnaround homing attack. While in the air, if you flick your control stick the opposite direction and then hit B, then you'll end up with your back facing your opponent after you hit them. You can do this out of spin dash and charge too. It's not true but a turn around homing attack almost always sets up for a back air follow up, and it's gotten me some really early kills offstage. An easy set up around mid percents is back throw at ledge, reverse homing attack, double jump, back air for an easy kill (although not true).

Spin-Shot is pretty easy once you have it down

I got brawl for the Wii a few years ago (I was like 13) and when I saw Sonic I decided he was to be my main. I then got a switch and super smash Bros when it came out and Sonic still is my main. But I wanted to get better and this video really helped.

Nice video SGK. There is one thing that I'd like to point out and that is Sonic's spin hop. Basically Sonic cancels his side/down b with a jump while still keeping the hit box. This could be useful in platform stages, catching the opponent's jumps, and as well as sending them offstage giving you an edge guard chance. It's really useful, I'd recommend it to all fellow Sonic mains.

Sonic is definitely my first love in the game and have worked at the most. Been really struggling of late to become a better Sonic main so this video was SUPER helpful. This was much needed!!

The side b vs down b helped me a lot because I only used side b for movement but now I now what to do, thx for everything new Sub.

20:40 (tips for beginners) You can face backwards while charging a homing attack and it will still hit. It's called a "Reverse Homing Attack" and it's much safer than doing it facing forwards since he curves back closer to the stage.

Im actually really good at playing Sonic and chose to watch this to see what info you would hand to newcomers playing Sonic. But you did really good teaching! The only thing I think is different about my Sonic is that I constantly just stay on top of my opponents and dont fall back often. Its probably a bad habit but hes so fun! 😂

From what I've played, the side-b (spin dash) doesnt do the little hop if it's fully charged, and also doesn't stop on shield. I hope this bit of info is useful to anyone who didn't know! Anyway thanks for making this guide. As a Sonic main, I greatly appreciate it!

you can really notice the difference between dash attack then and now, it being safe on shield (mostly) now has made a big difference for me. I still quote this as the best beginner guide for new sonic players.

Thank you for the guide! Since I skipped ssb4 there was a lot of info I didn't have on sonic. I found a true combo myself that I would like you to try: at 90% hit with a sour spot nair then forward smash. It combos I promise! I found it easier to do a reverse aerial rush into the nair sour spot then forward smash myself but I'm not as good as you so I'm sure you could lab it better.

Don’t forget about cancelling end lag of Spring or Spring->Dair! If you hold down as you land (basically land with a crouch) as you’re spinning through the air (from spring) or auto-cancelling dair, you can instantly shield/dodge/grab. On this note, mixing up your auto-canceling dair with a nair is super good too and can catch people off guard who are trying to stop your landing.

And now Sonic is TOP 5 (where he belongs). This guide is really helping me get back into the groove of this game!

You can spin shot with the spindash fully charged even at midair, you gotta flick the c-stick down and the normal stick in the direction you wanna go

Just a side note that spinshot can actually work if you flick the c stick down

btw down throw works with HA and if you up throw with sonic you read` read the double jump into a footstool and then emediatly HA and then Uair but ONLY HIT the first hit as soon as you hit the first one fastfall down get and you can follow up with half of your moveset i believe has to be only at early percents tho

One thing I like doing is using spin charge to anti air. If u mash spin charge and jump it has a hitbox on it and it knocks people away. Not much damage, just a good fuck off type of move.

17:00 When I do spinshot, I usually do spin charge in the air and once I let go I quickly drag my thumb to attack or A button, Don't know why it works but some buttons count as a jump or cancel when using this move. It works on any controller, at least on GAMECUBE or PRO controller.

I main Sonic and put time and effort into him... I came here to watch this to see if I'd learn anything and boy I did lol. I also like to do down special into up air thenwhen the two hits connect then jump and back air. Its nice lol

Sonic is so fun playing I have a little bit of trouble with his spin dash when I charged it and I accidentally price it too early to jump

-13:23 The hitbox wasn't that badfor me... Actually, I found it easier in smash 4 than in ultimate to spike somebody -16:50 It is still possible to do a Spinshot using the C-Stick, it's just a different timing (Actually, I've been having troubles with that since I can never input it on purpose and I even input it accidentally on a tournament... It wasn't nice. -You missed vertical spinjump, which is done by pressing A or C-Stick while holding SpinDash. It has some potential as an anti-air option right above you but it is best for applying pressure to enemies on platforms. -It would be useful if you mentioned kill setups or killmoves other than Nair to Bair as Sonic still struggles at killing. Maybe talking about aggresive edge-guards?

You can still c stick spin shot, it just has to be done a specific way, flick the stick to the bottom left no matter which direction you're spin shotting and you can get it to work consistently and easier than the other way.

Having the hardest time getting the D-Air to actually spike. The only way I’ve been able to hit it isn’t when the hitbox comes out. I always fall a decent distance before it connects. I guess I just short hop into it maybe

I still use c stick for spin shot

i find windy hill zone pretty good fore sonic it has those slope thingy's plus it has platforms and big ones to it is not to big and can be used fore sonic's advantage

I tried side b then immediately putting in a then x(jump), I've tried all at the same time but I haven't come close. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i have a question, i put invincibility on display and went frame by frame but sonic never turned blue during the spindash where you said he had invincibility frames. So im just wondering if youre wrong or the game just doesnt wanna highlight sonic during these frames. I also tested it against marios fireball repeatedly and either got hit by it or clashed with it everytime, unless it was fully charged

Okay. So, at 21:07. How were you able to turn your back to the opponent after doing a homing attack, while in mid air? I seen someone doing a spin charge and have their back turned afterwards and it lead into combos. How are you guys doing that?

I tried spring ride to up air and it's didn't connect most of the time or any other aerial. Help :(

Does the Spin Jump can have a advantage or any tech? (spin charge but in the middle of it pres jump buttom)

So does spin dash just hit one time and then you jump to lift them with you and then dair for the spike afterwards? I mean is the button input literally Side B (contact) jump and then D-Air? I’m asking because they never seem to be under me when I land Side B.. thanks again for this guide. I think I’ve watched it about five times now

13:35 actually that combo can work with every character and it works at 35-60% you just need to footstool them at the end so its a guarantee kill
