In 2016, I popularized the Sonic technique in Smash 4: The Spring Ride which involves taking players on Sonic's recovery (up b) up high with him by making the opponent also make use of the spring. It's frame perfect, it's not confirmed.. but if done right you will steal and win tournament sets. Here's the guide on how to perform the technique in Ultimate as I've been mastering it since release.

In smash 4 it was way more easier but in this game it's very specific, thank you for explaining that to the audience and the old sonic mains out there.

I remember when smash brawl first released, there was a guy named Lynn who I remember as the first person to use that tech, he was the first sonic main I saw in tournaments to use it, he called it spring trapping, never heard of Bkryonks

I remember our grand finals set how when you spring rided me as K.Rool and I tried up air before you can hit me and it whiffed. it actually sents me more high up than sonic, I wonder why it works on k.rool easily if he's a fast faller and a heavyweight at the same time. Very interesting. Bless Yonks and You for popularizing it

If you do nothing, K. Rool can't get hit by the uair after spring ride

@@SkylordGuthix whats weird about it is that if k.rool has sudden momentum shift like getting launched for example, he doesn't bounce with up air. His head is also intangibile unless sonic hits somewhere else. But k.rool absolutely can just do nothing and avoid it? Can he use counter to halt momentum because on spring, k.rool can infinite counter bounce

Guthix not completely true. Starting a spring ride with an attack such as Spincharge jump or falling up air wher Sonic can hit him due to his spring animation not completely finishing before Sonic can up air

I test it in training mod with every characters and it seems like spring ride don't work on the following characters: -Fox -Captain Falcon -Bowser (I was not expecting! 😮) -Sheik -Pichu -Falco -Roy/Chrom -Zero Suit Samus -Squirtle -Diddy Kong -Wolf -Greninja -Mii Brawler -Mii SwordFighter -Palutena (Of course... 😠) -Ryu/Ken -Bayonetta -Incineroar -Piranha Plant -Joker Strange ones are Charizard and King K.Rool, sometimes the second up air connect but most of the time they are sent too high, using it on them is too inconsistent. It fails mostly against fastfallers, no matter the weight (Bowser, Incineroar, King K.Rool, Charizard...) and you can even spring ride into Nair on floaties like Samus, JigglyPuff, Mr. Game & Watch, Mewtwo or Rosalina and Luma.

As someone that has always bagged on Spring Ride this was a good tutorial! Definitely going to play around with it some more and keep it in mind to use for opponents who neutral airdodge in disadvantage :)

My favourite SR setup is stage spring bounce off the spawn platform, bouncing up to meet them and then SR-ing them straight to the blast zone for a 0% uair kill :D It's so jank lmao, I think I've landed it maybe 3 or 4 times so far
