Wow I finally found someone that is teaching how to play instead of talking for 15 or 20 minutes on how to hold a bow. 😊

This lesson has made me so excited it’s embarrassing. I only started absolute beginner lessons in January, online of course with a bunch of little kids, and I can already nail these chords after a few minutes. I’m not making this up; I checked my sound against the piano. I have always wondered how to get those rich tones out of this instrument. My hat’s off to YOU for being such a good teacher.

Yes, Jason, and next comes the chopping of these chords, huh ? With the bow just bumping these strings. I don't play fiddle, but the sound of a fiddle chopping chords is unmistakable. Watch a fiddler chop chords sometime to see how it's done, good people. You'll want to go home and try it. Gawd, good lessons to be learned are priceless. Thanks, Jason, for exposing all of us to great lessons. Mando chords are another thing, but can be easily learned as well. Cheers. Bob

A question on double stops. I think you said play the string before, eg. Playing on D string include open G. Playing on A string include open D. Playing on E include open A. Could you kindly clarify Thanks......John
@fiddl3hed
@fiddl3hed 7 лет назад
John, a drone is created by playing an open string next to the string where you are playing the note for the tune. The easiest thing for a beginner to do is to play the drone on the string AWAY from your fingers. The pairs you write are correct. You can play the drone on the other string (open E when note on A, open A when note on D, open D when note on G) but you have to arch your fingers over that open string to reach the string with the note for the tune. Your fingers are more likely to hit that open string if you try to arch over them and you will corrupt the sound of the open string. Once you have a feel for the drone, it is easy to play the open string on either side of the string with the note.

quick question: the chords that you call "inversions" are they not like a "D minor chord " or "A minor chord" is there another name? Thank you much
@fiddl3hed
@fiddl3hed 7 лет назад
Lindsay...you invert a chord by using the same notes in the chord but changing their order. G - B - D could be played B - D - G or D - G - B, etc. They have different sounds but they are all G chords. A minor chord has one of the notes slightly lowered. An inversion does not. The notes remain the same.

Try leaning away from the open string
@Elbownian
@Elbownian 8 лет назад
+norman mcdowell When you're bowing any string on its own, it's ok for your fingers to also be on an adjacent string - since it's not being sounded, it doesn't matter if it's fingered by accident or not while the sounded string is being fingered. If you're double-stopping a pair of strings, place your finger on whichever string you're fingering as far to the side of the string away from its partner string as possible. This is true even if fingering both strings, and again, it's ok if the fingers also cover the strings not being played in the double stop, since they're not sounded it makes no difference. So basically you're allowing your fingers to 'overflow' and spill off the strings they're aimed at, as long as it doesn't effect the sound that's made.
