Great vid Kevin, Vicky and Maggie May! Even though I'm an advanced beginner, you guys have helped me cement the "Barre" Please keep producing straight forward, approachable and friendly content!! Love it!!
Great video. I had given up learning how to play one of my favorite Decemberists songs because of the cursed B-minor. This makes all the difference. The wrist tip alone is huge! Thanks for posting
I really like your videos, and may I suggest a further tip for learning bar chords? Which is to learn to play Amin and Emaj with fingers 2, 3 & 4, rather than 1, 2 & 3 - when these are called for in a song. That way, you develop muscle memory in those three fingers in advance of playing a bar chord.
Thank You for explaining the barre chord setup, yup I’m o e of those people that shy away from songs with barre chords 🤷🏼♀️ hey I’m just getting the C chord LOL and suggestion if you slide the Am chord down to the 3rd fret it is a easy Bm and sounds pretty close to the barre chord version and for this 68 yr old a heck easier - my wrist just can’t do barre chords
Thanks for 10 years I've been trying to play guitar and the road has been bumpy due to not being able to play the dreaded Barre Chord. It's so simple now I've seen this video many thanks from Christopher in Wales.
Thank you Kevin for another inspiring video on the 'tough' chords. Yeah, daily practice with 'incremental' progress should help in getting it perfect. Meanwhile, I always look forward to your RU-vid channel's mascot, alias Magiemae (excuse me if misspelled) coming for her treat. Wish you and your family a great weekend. Cheers! New Delhi
I'm getting there with barre chords can do the f shape barre and move up and down the neck now moving onto the b barre and moving between f and b but it's just practice
Great lesson, I’ve been avoiding barre chords for decades. My favorite guitar is 45 years old w almost flat frets1-3, I gotta select another guitar to learn this, I just figured this out, likely the reverse also, high action makes barre difficult. Gotta find my happy medium setup😂
Also thanks for the specifics of elbow, arm, wrist and thumb positioning. I usually rest my D guitar on left leg, wondering if I need to bring it over for barre to get more grip?
Kevin, thanks for another great lesson. When we first pick up the guitar and decide we will be serious…….which just maybe the biggest factor in our skill development……commitment……if we initially learn our basic open chords with the middle, ring and pinky finger wouldn’t barre chords come easier? I didn’t learn that way but sometimes wonder……
You are welcome. Interesting, I have never heard this take. Wouldn’t hurt I suppose. I personally think learning the open chords and being successful is the gateway drug to learn even more on the guitar :)
@@Relaxandlearnguitar You're welcome Sir Relaxandlearnguitar, thank you for the amazing tips and tricks I have learned new stuff like using the boney part of the finger and elbow position, which helped A LOT.
Kevin I’m going on over a year and the last 3 months I’ve been practicing this Bm almost daily. It’s still hit and miss and not natural. Like it’s a struggle. Moat the time my pinky is the issue not getting where it needs to be. But is this unusual at this point? Should I just throw in the towel and accept that maybe barre chords are not something I can do? I mean who takes this long to finally get it? Thanks for any advice you can send me. Ryan 😊
You and a bunch of other folks! Stick with it. A little each day. Choose a Bm chord and another chord to practice transition to and from. Have you seen this lesson yet? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uj_o5FHZoBQ.html
Kevin, I can play the barre chords and they sound clean but in transition during a song like G to Bm I just can’t land it. I don’t have the muscle memory. I’ve been trying for a year to just land the barre chord during songs like I do open chords and my punk usually doesn’t get there in time. It’s really frustrating because I can strum and play pretty good but I just can’t switch on the fly to the barre chord fast enough and I have pauses when playing. Any thing you can suggest because I’ve all but given up on them. Thanks! -Ryan
Hang in there. I do have some tips in this video to practice switching between those 2 chords. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CFu-VIM62Sc.html. Hope it helps!
