I've been playing bass for a good amount of years now and I didnt give much attention to this number system until I joined a worship team. The director was saying to me FOUR! FOUR! FOUR! at the end of the song. I know what he meant but didnt know what chord it was. Felt like the years of experience playing music is gone out the window. I love how you teach and explain this subject, very informative and a big learning curve to me. Thank you very much! you're awesome God bless
Been playing bass for 15 years and never could underatand the number system, let along no other musicians would show me but thanks to you i FINALLY got it.....be blessed brother your the man!
Been struggling to learn the Number System for nearly a year, thank you for breaking it down and making it so applicable. The pivot points did the trick. I also play bass at church. Much gratitude and respect, new subscriber
I’m new to the bass I have been playing for 2 months and because of this video I was able to easily understand the number system and I’m already applying it to other keys thanks for this!
Hey Travis! Yeah I am a beginner a year in and have been asking about the number system for a year and you broke it down even for a beginner like me to understand. Your other tutorials are still a bit advanced for me right now but I hope to continue to improve. If you have gospel tutorials please let me know I appreciate it!!
Man I needed this!! I knew the notes but never knew numbers. I'm self taught so I learned to play by ear only. This helped me out a lot. Now I just have to get it down packed.
That is a seriously helpful video. I have been playing for 8 months and it helps me become more flexible in my movement around the neck. Hi from the UK.
So... i've only been playing the bass for a week and I've learned so much from your videos. I need to send an offering. lol. Great tips in this video!!!
This here!!! I've known the number system for a while but struggled with applying it to my playing. With me playing now playing in churches, it's difficult sometimes to follow all the numbers being thrown around. The progressions cause me to get stuck in the upper register and I struggle with being able drop to lower octaves without having to "stop playing" for a moment and find my place
That was an excellent number lesson. Wish I had learned it that way years ago, I'd be able to read charts. Now that I've seen this it won't be so intimidating.
Great video. I've played for 30+ years and only recently stumbled onto the number system. Man... I wish I would have known this 30 years ago. Thinking in number patters like 1 4 5 in F# is waaaaay easier than thinking F# B C# or trying to convert it if the band changes key.
haha for real. I don't have an ounce of musical "ability" but I do have a keen sense of numbers, and that's how I get by when jamming with 'real' musicians lol
Very helpful video, Travis. Love all your vids. Just want to mention one thing that was very helpful for me that you kinda touched on. A "flat 2" is the same as a "sharp 1". When you said "no such thing as a sharp 7", it's actually just a 1 😎 Just like a "flat 1" is a 7. I'm still a beginner so maybe I made it more confusing lol. But when I saw that light, then playing bass made much more sense to me. I'm still very novice by the way lol. But you've helped me a lot along the way. Thanks Travis!
Hey Travis thank you for this lesson. Can you give an example on how it actually is to modulate on bass using the number system while following the Music Directer or preacher. Thank you bro.
