Saw my first Dead tribute band the first time in my life on my 55th birthday. By about lunchtime the next day I had nearly all their music. I play also play guitar and Bertha is one of my favorite dead songs.
Just want to say thank you for all the great instructional videos - and the most fun and funny videos on the web. You rock Davvy. A million thank yous.
I dig your teaching technique! Your showing me leads I never thought I could do. Thanks man. Your humble student Vaughn. P.s. I'll support you on my payday. I'm a veteran so I get paid on the 1st. Peace and love.
What is the riff around C @ 4:30? Where he says Jerry liked to "flutter around"? I'm loving the videos, and I'd love to know more about some of the riffs and fills.
Davvy your a cool cat man,you show the kids young and old, there will be sum deadhead granpops who like your channel brother, haha i love dead grannys.Anyway good on you for what you are doing for us Deadheads world wide brother,im in new Zealand. You show the love and respect for the grateful dead,it shows dude coz you play that guitar awesome.Anyway thanks for your videos ,entertaining and learning from them.Good man davvy dead fuckin head forever brother, peace.
You are entertaining as %^& (seem like the kind of dude my friends and I would have hung out with at Shoreline back in the day). *do have a question. For those of us oldies who are just learning (i.e. low level intermediate). How can we know what chords you are using? I know you are using a G voicing that isn't the full G barre but I've no idea what it is. Those chords that are easy to see your hands make sense; for example the A shape barres and the full barre G but the others are a mystery. Thanks
Fuck its so rad when you find out what captain trips is on about, the meaning.Hahaha.Mr hunter had a very cool brain, with the beauty and glorious out of it tales, real storys true coz i know there was man who rode those lonely train tracks ,mr casey jones i will tell ya one hand on the trains whistle and the other doing up a line.Rest his soul,i reckon he would be a good mate.Anyway fuck im rambling more then mr jones.Robert hunter ,i cant say much more ,pen and pad this man number 1.The meaning behind those words he wrote pure glory.
How do you ‘roll’ into that C barr or the Run up without 8” fingers? my 3rd (guitar finger) doesn’t seem to be able to get the G and B down. Also any tips on strumming pattern
Try doing the Jerry thing and use your pinky to do the barring. And as far as strumming goes, watch closely and try to imitate. Monkey see monkey do. Strumming is tricky. It has everything to do with your perception of rhythm.
@@TobyDavvy I do know the song I’ll work to get it down! Wanted to share my progress of Loser I’ve spent months on mostly from y’all. Thank you! Keep it up much appreciated
Another amazing lesson. Definitely subscribing. Came after row jimmy. Have you ever been told you look like Blake Anderson from workaholics minus the hair lol.
Awesome man trying to spread the word I think you would get more traction if you had a channel called “Playin Dead” instead of the bro channel nothing wrong with that but you are in the pocket And as shitty as the world is today there is nothing finer than some grateful fucking dead seems like more people lately are picking up on that which just goes to prove the music now is finally after a while being used what it was for in the first place to feel free...Someday please do Scarlett Begonia’s I can play it but I know you’ll do it better ha ha
Family is everything. You know that, homie. There is a "Play Dead" playlist that you can share if thats easier for you. Should I teach Scarlet Begonias and Fire on the Mountain in the same episode? Or do them separately?
Toby & Davvy I’m so sorry for the late reply🙏💥Yes I love Scarlet/Fire together I can play it but truth be told you have something I don’t because I learn from your songs and you are a badass teacher I miss stuff(ametuer) (25 years😂) Hope when winter gets here I can spend more time on here life is crazy for me right now but yes would love Scarlet/Fire and some insight on the time sigs and little things to make it more fun to play you got the goods bro for real takes a lot to impress this should be the definitive Dead learning channel The world needs the Dead now more than ever thanks
Did you edit out your solo? I like how you don’t sound just like Jerry, but you have your own sound, but you still throw in chromatic runs like Jerry but don’t go for mimicking him at all...you have a more edgy and modern style to your playing...how did you get all this under your belt so young...you must have really geeked out on the shit in high school lol?
This one was before I started putting in solo examples. But just try to follow the chords. That’s what Jerry did. And yeah, I started listening to the Dead when I was in High School and starting to experiment with psychedelics. I then dropped out of high school to hitchhike around the country and played music on the street and since then I’ve been in a few jam bands and several Dead centered projects. So I’ve had a lot of intimate time with this music. And I really appreciate what you said about my style. I think of myself kind of like an amalgamation if Jerry and Trey from Phish with definitely more influence from Jerry.
@@TobyDavvy Out of interest ( looking to hitchike around europe again soon!) how did you HH with guitar? Just brought it with you in its case? Awesome story and lesson =)
