So glad you dropped this video today, I have been wanting this one for some time and it pretty much made my day. So thankful that you are doing these videos Davvy. After I started listening to the Grateful Dead it inspired me to start playing an instrument again after about 9 years without touching one. Since I am pretty new to the guitar, these videos have been a tremendous help. I appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos breaking all the parts down for newcomers. I also wanted to ask if you would consider putting some Grateful Dead oldies on the "list" of songs such as: Good Mornin' Little Schoolgirl, One Kind Favor and/or Stealin'. If the spirit moves you, give us some surf music! much love to ya.
Haven't had a lot of time to watch your videos since I started a new job in September. So glad to see someone finally teach a Brent song. What's it gonna take to get a lesson on We Can Run? I've only been able to figure out some of it. That's a song that's still just as relevant today as it was when it was 1st released and my favorite Brent song.
Another example of Brent Mydland planting seeds in rap is Samba in the rain live at the Omni 3/30/95 around the 30 second mark Brent hits a ground breaking “BRrrr” straight out of the drill/trap music of today. Phenomenal display of musical ability from Brent I might say. The fact that it was in Atlanta too, where that sound and genre got popular, pretty crazy if you ask me.
Well, that's a bit of a distorted view of the 80's but not that far off. Brent was the Man in the late 80's. Not very popular with some but He has stood the test of time. I always loved when Blow Away was played. A song that still moves me 30+ years later. It was a loss for sure that was felt deeply when he passed. Definitely a shift in the style the music was heard from then on. I might be wrong but I think that gritty Jerry sound you refer to was to mask the decline in his chops after he came out of the coma and had to learn to play again thanks to Merl Saunders) I never liked it as much as his cleaner tones but yes, you are right, it was the 80's lol. Thanks for the all the great lessons you share! (How about an Easy to love You lesson?;)
The one Brent song I can’t fucking stand is “I Will Take You Home”. Makes me wish they would speed up my vasectomy appointment. Aulder Deadheads are like “but Jerry is playing trumpet lines on the MIDI trumpet”. Don’t care, it’s terrible.
