The object of the game is to be the first player reach the candy castle by landing on the multicolored rainbow space at the end of the path. Setup: Layout the board and each player chooses a character pawn and places it on the start space. Shuffle the cards and place them facedown within reach of all the players.
The youngest player goes first then play proceeds clockwise. On your turn you draw one card from the deck and then move your character as directed by that card drawn. If you draw a single block, move your pawn forward to the first matching color on the path. If you draw a double block, move your pawn forward to the second matching color space on the path. If you draw a picture card, move your pawn forward or backward to the pink picture space on the board that matches your card.
There are 2 shortcuts on the board, the Rainbow Trail and the Gumdrop Pass. If you land exactly on the space below the shortcut, move your pawn immediately up the shortcut to the space above it. There are 3 licorice spaces on the path. If you land on this space, you must skip your next turn.
If the draw deck runs out of cards, shuffle it into a new draw deck. The first person to reach the multi-colored rainbow space at the end of the path, wins.

Gummy Pass used to be "Gum Drop Pass" and Peppermint Pass used to be "Rainbow Trail". I do think the major rule change regarding the licorice/"stuck" spaces was a very welcome one. Originally if you landed on a "stuck" space (red/yellow/blue space with black dot) you couldn't move until you drew that color...which meant you could be "stuck" there for several turns. Especially not fun for the game's target demographic. Now, as showing in this video, you just skip your next turn. As for the rainbow space at the end that's because some people mistakenly played that you had to win by "exact count" (it was originally a purple space) even though the rules all along said that you did not need "exact count".

Yeah, just like Snakes and Ladders; though I'd gloat like a jerk when I won, I never could iron out an effective strategy with Candy Land - almost as if the whole game was merely floating on the whim of Lady Licorice Luck. And afterwards, we were compelled to go raid the larder for sugar. Seriously, I had a computer game version of this. A game with one button: the space bar. Just hold it down and you win in a few seconds.

Fun candy land story: So when I was little, every Sunday I would go to church and there was this playroom that had Candyland. They would rarely pull it out(STFU) for two reason 1: we would get really competitive at times 2: I had anger issues as a kid and still kinda do 3: I was also kinda strong as a kid Any way I ended up pushing a kid out of his chair and onto the floor after they stole the win while I was 1 space away. (Seriously tho Susie def cheated, She pulled 2 pink cards. IN. A. ROW.)

My secret to becoming the Candy Land legend is making sure your playing with exactly 5 opponents and it is critical to make sure you are the second to last player. Trust me...works every time!

Here's a wacky fun fact about this game in my childhood. So when I was about 6 years old, I got traumatized by the scene of Alan Parish getting sucked into the Jumanji board game. So ever since then for maybe 2 years, I was way too afraid to play board games. And I remember my sister and my cousin were playing this game and I remember walking into the dining room and my cousin saying "Jeff, do you wanna play Candyland with us?" And then I panicked and I hysterically said "No! It's a boardgame! I'll get sucked in!!" And then my cousin was trying to call me down by saying "Jeff,Jeff, this is Candyland, not Jumanji". And then I remember my sister telling me "And Jeff, Mom told you that Jumanji is not real"

Candyland how to play the game it to get to King Candy's Castle set up lay out the board and give each player their own play person if you that has a color go to that color double color go to the next color if you get a treat card go forward or backwards if you land on a short cut take it but beware if you land on a liscure space lose a turn the first person to get to King Candy's Castle wins $10,000 and and a chocolate reward chocolate medal

So in other words 0% skill and 100% luck. I remember when I was a kid I liked it, but then later on realized it technically can't even really be called a game since absolutely no skill or strategy is involved. Some games are all skill, some games are a varying mix of skill and luck, but this "game" truly is 100% luck.
