Thank you. I understand now what it means for a game to be draw, kingside castling or queenside castling ,en passant esetera. . I hope I will win my next game using these principles you just mentioned in the video. Thank you once more.
@pairot01
@pairot01 10 лет назад
you missed a castling rule, you can't castle if there is any piece between your king and rook, this is only important when castling queen side as the knight's home square isn't occupied by neither the rook nor the king before or after castling, but still it isn't legal to castle if there's a piece there
@ChessNetwork
@ChessNetwork 10 лет назад
It certainly would have been much clearer/direct/better to have referenced that during the castling section. If castling were allowed with pieces in-between king and rook, they'd have to jump a piece. If a jumping of king/rook were allowed, it'd conflict with what rule I state about that tricky knight. :) 4:17
@konradeli
@konradeli 6 лет назад
But the king/castle jump the other, rule already broken. Why not jump one more? they are on the same team and, I assume, pals. Just one more cheeky jump, no one has to know.

Wow, I never knew chess was this complicated (Coming from a newbie) I can see why people enjoy the game though! It's very interesting but really hard to understand at first. For instance, I am kinda confused about the stuff the pawn does, but I know I'll get there eventually. My mom can actually play chess, so she can explain it to me too :P Either way, thanks for the tutorial! I'm off buying a chess board now :)

The ”en passant” -rule is a little bit confusing for new players. But other than that the pawns movement isn’t too hard to master. It moves one square at a time. It captures diagonally. And on its first move of the game it has the option to move 2 squares. -Easy.

nice one. I find it soooo difficult to explain chess to someone who has no idea how it is played. Even you left a hundred questions open that we would never ask, but someone else might: can you take your own pieces? Does the Knight capture on all the squares he moves through? When I block a check with my Queen, giving check at the same time to the opponent's King, is it a check? Because I couldn't really capture his king without getting my King into check again. Weird questions but I've been asked them a lot :D And they are mostly logical questions^^

I play chess every day, and I still loved this video! Great job, you're a good teacher! One question though, is it possible to force checkmalte with two knights?
@rchiesse
@rchiesse 10 лет назад
No, it's not possible. In this case you can only deliver checkmate due to opponent's mistakes. "Two bishops" or even "Bishop and Knight" on the other hand can force the mate. A good way to verify this on your own is to set up such scenario on a chess GUI (Arena 3.5 for instance), load two high level engines (say, Stockfish DD and Critter 1.6, since both are free softwares), and hit "Demo" button, so that they will fight each other. The game will end as a draw by the 50 moves rule.
@2424dynasty2424
@2424dynasty2424 10 лет назад
rchiesse it is possible. White's knights on E7 and F7 king on G6. Black king on H8 is checkmate
@thellamalord8639
@thellamalord8639 10 лет назад
2424dynasty2424 it is impossible to force it, the actual position is possible
@if3660
@if3660 6 лет назад
Two knights vs King is a draw because in forcing the checkmate you would have to stalemate your opponent, however it is possible to win Two Knights vs King and Pawn because you can use the pawn to force your opponent to make waiting moves while you deliver checkmate on the immobile King.

+Andrew Kasal That's great to hear that you're helping to encourage others to play. If there's a specific rule you're wanting to highlight to another, check out the time stamps in the description that go directly to the rule of interest.

What a tricky game. I never thought that chess can be this difficult, I just assumed that it is an easy, fun thing to do in your spare time. I'm absolutely looking forward to learn and play this game daily. Thank you for the lesson

It would be very nice to do a tutorial for OTB rules, such as touch moves, promotions, offering a draw, chess clock, and etc.,

IIUC, it is desirable for black @ 11:28 (the queen diagonal check draw) to continue checking to force the draw because otherwise it is a loss for black. After Qe1 Kh2, the only other valid moves are Qxd2, h5 or moving the queen to another position. Qxd2 results in a Queen echange and a battle for the pawns, which white can win if played correctly, leading to a white pawn promotion and checkmate. The other moves either result in the queen being taken, or leaving white to move unchecked, allowing them to check with either the rook or queen, with the rook being better in the black Qe1 position as it is at risk of capture. From there, white is at an advantage with the queen and rook, so can use them to checkmate.

+msclrhd No, black can easily force a mate in that position.

Artful instructions. I think I'll need to make my own diagram and try to memorize, first, pieces and what they can do, then memorize the board, then learn the rules and techniques.

QUESTION! If you are in Check (Like rook next to king) can you capture the rook with the king assuming that he will no longer be in check?
@ChessNetwork

+Oblivion Yes, the king can capture a checking piece.

I would say that peprpetual check applies either to 3 fold repetition or to 50 moves rule.

I used to enjoy playing Chess at the Cathalic school i used to attend when I was younger in New York when you play Chess you have a time limit for each move you make to make the game a little quicker is a game of stradigy a good board game I might add!
