Thanks Dylan. I've never really thought about stuff like this as I play acoustic. Going to go and have a play

That's really cool, I never really understood the volume and master volumes before. I guess my thinking was opposite of how they are. You know, I was just reading an interview with Samantha Fish on Musicradar and she said she got rid of her huge pedal board about 5 years ago and just went with the guitar into the amp and trying to get the tone from her fingers. She said it made her a better player.

Bravo D🔊III[[[[☮I love playing without pedals & rarely use reverb. It's cool how your custom P90 is doing what the vintage P90 guitars are famous for. It's nice to have 2 or more pickups with a hot bridge like 2wice the output for tonal variations without pedals & shift on the fly◇¿.😎🎱☮🖖👍🇺🇸

Having a volume control for each pickup, like a les paul, is great. I almost always keep the neck pickup volume control lower so I can switch to it for clean tones. Neck pickup sounds better clean IMHO, hit the switch to bridge pickup for some nasty overdrive! Being a Gretsch player I also have the master volume which adds even more magic to the mix.

HOW you wire the vol/tone circuit, also affects how your guitar cleans up, and retains more treble signal. Modern type wirings, tend to turn clean sounds to mud!

Good explanation of pickup dynamics! Most people have no clue.

I didn't find any of that information nerdy or boring at all! I find it or I found it very useful and very interesting. I sort of had the basics of that I picked up somewhere but it was nice to hear it expanded on. Yeah you can never be too nerdy for me it's never boring I love information. My mother always told me knowledge is power and also something similar the only stupid question is the one that asked. And she was right on both points. Thanks and always looking forward to your upcoming videos I get all your notifications when you're premiering or putting out a new video. I look forward to them I think I might have said that already lol. Again thank you always sincerely yours, Bob the blind bedroom guitarist guitarist PS you know it's something I think I'm going to use a little more I don't really have any petals but the more knobs the more high-tech amps and my guitar here is the harder it is for me to use. So this would be a real simple no that's why you're doing something for someone that can't see without having to bend down and trying to turn knobs all the time. PS you know I have trouble setting my amps up at times because by the time I can find the right knob and turn it the the guitar is already decayed quite a bit the sound so that's a pain in my ass let's put it that way

thanks, i am primary acoustic, but I do have 2 electrics and fender vibro champ . . . no pedals . . . it'll help when I get a more powerful amp

Lowering the pickups really affects the way they cleans up. On higher distances magnetic field isn't that strong, and the pickup voltage isn't high enough to wipe out the dynamics

Thanks! I have a cheaper amp and needed overdrive for a certain tone I wanted! Imma try this and keep playing with my strat till I get as close as I can get to the time I want 😄 I'm tryna do shout at the devil by motley crue 😂 wish me luck

Hy Dylan! Meanwhile I like to use the guitar volume knob to control the gain too. 👍🏼 Noticed, on one with high output + trebble bleed cap + log pots it works less effective then on the „PAF“-type pups without treble bleed and linear (Alpha) pots. Both are humbucker, but the first mentioned till it cleans up, the sound is way too quiet. What do you think is the reason for the difference in my case? Oh, and I like watches too! A clear case and band, or with transparent colors, gives me a sportive and happy vibe.😀 Cheers

Pickup question/idea? I bought a Kramer Snake Sabo and swapped out the pickup (multiple pups). After trying a couple of SD's a JB then Distortion I went with an EMG 81X. The point is that this is a one pickup guitar and I was wondering if I could put TWO Seymour Duncan mini humbuckers (like a pair of Hot Rails) into the one pickup cavity that's for a full size humbucker. Not for a quad coil (although that's one of the ways to wire it) but to get more options of tone. I figure I could have 2 push/pull pots so I could switch between the 2 and have both on at the same time. My tone taste leans towards Metal. My main influences are ZAKK Wylde, Randy Rhoads to Cinderalla, Ratt, Queensryche and Dream theater. I do a lot of Zakk Wylde Harmonics and I have my Les Pauls but only 2 of them have active pups. The others have hot bridge pickups like the SD Alternative 8 in the bridge and an Alnico 2 magnet humbucker in the neck. With all the info. Would it be worth trying to wire up two mini humbuckers in the bridge for more sound options? The main thing is that I can keep my main tone. I want to be able to get my Zakk harmonics with ease and that they are thick (as thick as they can be from a Kramer super strat). What's your thoughts on this idea..

That is how I've settled in with my amps recently, and something I learned from Josh @JHS Pedals, I stack boosts to gain stage with (3 + an TS9) instead of using the gtr knobs. I'll have to experiment with the knobs to try something different.

I'm glad you demonstrated this with a Jr. I play a Jr. and I wasn't happy with the basically on/off tone control. I moved the cap to 50s style, and it fixed the taper of the tone, but moved the problem to the volume knob. Any thoughts?

high Dylan !!!! great video ! if you play your guitar whith a much longer cable (jack ) it will improve the fact to clean the sound much easier by rolling down the volume of the guitar !!! i watch you from France take care thanks for your work !

A great video that really takes me back. I made my first, star-crossed attempt at learning guitar as an EE student in 1989 (aka Land of 8-bit) when I bought a used MIK Squier Strat and a Peavey amp. I was delighted to discover that I could set up the amp to give an overdriven sound when I turned up the guitar volume. Pretty much just as you described. The reverb was also lot of fun. Then we plugged headphones into the input jack for a microphone and used it as a PA... good times! Not much actual guitar playing but amusement for hours in between classes and D&D sessions.

Hey Dylan. What kind of capacitance do those Runway Audio cables have per foot? Just bought some Mogami that's 110uf/m IIRC and I've been looking at others. So I figured I'd ask. Thanks!

Hey Dylan a watch comment lol. When I could see I used to collect and work on pocket watches but mainly wrist watches. Do you remember the bowl of a space series models of watches. They were completely see through? Had a bunch of those from the original ones to the later reissued ones. Really really cool watch. Do you remember that model or no of it dylan? Just thought I'd ask on your no pedals which is the main reason for your video right I hope? LOL just kidding. You got guys that still play like that I just want I'll throw out there and that's Angus young. That's how he does it and that's how he's done it since he started out as a kid. And they really weren't any petals. Thanks for your content as always Dylan sincerely yours, about the blind bedroom guitars

Anyway to emulate Pete Towshend’s Live at Leeds sound? Gibson SG with two P 90’s? Super clean, then crushing overdrive?

And the hotter the pickups I’m your guitar the more overdriven you can make it sound. Especially if you have a gain dial on your amp. Turn the gain up all the way. Turn the volume on your guitar up all the way and kablam, overdrive without a pedal.

I play a 1980s 65 watt Peavy bandit...zer0 reverb, and the only "pedal" I use is the footswitch for switching channels. It is sexy as fuck!

What pickup set and controls would you reccomend for a baritone guitar if I wanted really high gain crunch but with the ability to clean up and still retain some sparkle when turned down and cleaned up? Think Rabea and his bare knuckle silo. To add to that, it would be cool to have the mids different in bridge/neck and maybe some phase cancellation. No preference on pickup route, but I do want clarity for big open chords. Regards,

Great as usual. The beauty of simple guitar controls. I struggle with 4 control Gibsons etc. Easier with Fenders with one volume. I ended up disconnecting a vol and tone on my LP. Easy to reverse. I love 1 pickup guitars for this, Juniors and Esquires. Took a while to realise I can get the tones I need for a show, 1 pickup can do it.

Hey Dylan, can you achieve this effect (or similar results) with a volume pedal going into the input of an amp? I've never been an edge of breakup player, but I've recently become more interested in it. I've never been an active user of my volume knob while playing either because I've always used a volume pedal in front of the amp. If it doesn't work with a volume pedal, maybe it could be a good topic for a video.
