This can be REALLY FRUSTRATING when your opponents hit a (lucky) shot that ends up next to the glass.
This is common with the side glass and the back glass - so here we discuss a couple of ways to deal with these balls!
This video explains how to hit against the back glass: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ktasv2cpJHk.html
The key to dealing with this shot is anticipating the situation might occur early and judge the trajectory so that you can decide a good time to take it.
Not mentioned in the video, but try to keep a cool head while playing this shot, having a desperate swipe at the ball will likely not have the best results!

Short back swing preparation helps a lot if you are trying to hit the ball without touching side wall. You gain a lot of control and, in most of these cases, you only need little back swing to be able hit the ball back consistently. Thanks for another great video Sandy!

If the ball is SUPER close to the side glass (like if the opponent plays down the line from close to the side glass on their side), one option is to actually place the racket in such a way that it touches the side glass and then swipe the racket forwards towards the ball all the while still touching the glass. It is definitely not a GREAT option, but can be better than trying to hit it regularly - again, only if the ball is really super close to the glass.

Thanks Sandy, what about the ones that are close to the back glass that just die because it's damp. Any tips on back hand corner dying ones?

close to the side glass: my best shot is the 2nd choice.. on the back glass, if it’s far in the back, 3rd choice!!

what about a side glass but on the other side how to defend it with a back hand?

Whenever a ball is close to the glass you have to make a decision on how much it will rebound and can you get into the space to hit a good shot - if it is close to the glass you have to try to take the best point (often when it is further from the glass to hit). In some cases this might mean earlier or later…

what about in the corner where it has bounced already and it just dies?

The key is to playing that ball before you get into that situation...tricky to anticipate, but takes practice!

Why hit topspin on the last option?

More space to swing the racket that side of the ball and the spin it creates after rebound is actually slice on the lob making it more effective 👍

I always end up smashing my racket against the glass lmao

you are advising your viewers to use the lob towards the back glass an tell them that it shows sort of desperation and when they get the answer with a lob towards their own back glass they shouldn't respond in the same way because it shows desperation?! Don't agree with that at all, especially in beginner/low advanced matches/tournaments you literally wear your opponets out and frustrate them beyond belief with those lobs towards the back glass. If you just peacticed those lobs a bit or got a good ballcontrol through any other racketsport you can take home easy wins without even moving alot. Even at more advanced levels you get alot of free points through players that are to confident with their smashing skills or try themselves to mirror your shots without practice. Using the back glass will always be some kind of cheeky shot like a tweener or if used more than 1-3 times some sign of desperation and mis-movement 😅
