Grammy-winning musician Jacob Collier recently sat down with Genius to break down the chords for Daniel Caesar and H.E.R.’s 2017 collaboration, “Best Part.” Collier first became known for his multi-instrumental rearrangements of popular songs such as Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T. it's cause Jacob understands the music of the world and how complex everything is, I also think he finds an appreciation for the culture that music might come from! Music history is very intresting and people of all races/backgrounds influence eachother all the time throughout history... it's a beautiful thing really

I understand that the intended audience are non-musicians, but the sight of Jacob explaining such bare basics feels jarring and just plain unnecessary to me, however well-executed the explanation.

This song has such great reharmonization potential, I would have loved to hear what Jacob is thinking about in terms of extended harmony. For example, in the live version he sometimes replaces the Bbmaj7 with a C13(#11,#15) to get a luscious superlydian subtonic.
