This is a REALLY stupid question but I'm a self taught beginner drummer and I still don't know how to do the open close technique properly. What motion do you use with your foot? Do you just lift it off the pedal? Any help is appreciated. Sorry I tried editing this because I thought I left something out so this is filler to allow me to post the comment.

I love these beats I used to love to do the ride symbol for on the floor ride 8tg and then my left hand would be doing offbeat high hat open close and snare I got to get a drum set again

You have the wrong kind of drums for this kind of music. This kit sounds like it would be more suited to Rock. I'm not a drummer, and you definitely know a lot more about this than me, but the drum kit in disco music sound completely different from the one you're using.
