I have an endorsement with Meinl cymbals.
The hi hats I’m playing in this video are Meinl 15” Pure Alloy Custom Medium Hi Hats. Super crisp hi hats!
Are you tired of playing the same old boring hi hat patterns? This lesson will help you develop some new funky grooves just by changing up your hi hat patterns. These patterns utilize accents on the off-beat 16th notes. This creates a really nice funky sound in your groove!

I'm new to the channel and I go to a highschool that focuses on marching percussion so we don't get any teaching about anything outside of that ever and I'm not joking so a channel like yours is so helpful. Do you guys have any tips for playing in a big band jazz band?
@eylsnokissile6608
@eylsnokissile6608 10 месяцев назад
Idk what your skill level is with percussion music, but assuming you were maybe beginner level, my suggestion would be to join your school's marching band "drumline" -and learn and master all the basics - develop your "chops", learn to READ music, and all the basic percussion techniques. It will help enormously with pursuing playing a full drum kit. Plus, you would have a BLAST -band/drumline is SOOOO much fun, you'll make some really tight-knit friendships with your fellow band mates, make some really cool memories and good times. The other added benefit is that it will get you acclimated to and comfortable with "stage" performing. If you get stage fright, THIS WILL "cure" you of it pretty fast! You'll feel right at home performing in front of audiences, crowds, etc Beyond that, instructional videos are great tools to use - but I would definitely recommend talking your parents into hiring a private drum lessons teacher for you. Shop around for a teacher though - some of them can be quite pricey, but you could probably go over to your nearest college/university's Music Dept, go meet their drum/percussion students and ask them if they give private lessons or if they KNOW OF anyone - this is often an inexpensive and great option - these students are NOT beginner level and are advanced and expert level drummers and usually would be happy to earn a few extra bucks on the side giving private lessons and usually will cost substantially LESS than a "career" private instructor would charge. I hope that helps!

Amazing quality of production. The camera and the surrounding are doing more then half the job for any random watcher. I think I should be doing something similar to look even more professional.

Glad to hear it! I’m interested in your interest in acoustic drums if you are a house (electronic) music producer. Many house producers don’t use or know how to play real drums. Do you record your beats on an electronic kit for your tracks? Or are you a drummer/producer that just loves both kinds of music/types of drums?
@mylesmontclair

@@Fisherdrumming I produce underground tech house and melodic techno primarily and use Ableton with some analog gear like my piano and synthesizers to create bass, leads, and sometimes drums (typically kicks, toms, metallic/noise hats, claps). I also have a few drum machines that I can use to play live after creating the sound or loading a sample. I don't know how to play real drums. The only percussive instrument I play is piano. I am realizing how helpful it would be to learn how to play drums to better understand various rhythm, groove, and improvisation, which is how I found your channel :) It is hard to find quality sample packs of real drums that were recorded professionally, but I have found some decent samples and I always use them in my productions to help glue the drums together to sound better, more real, and cohesive in the mix. So yeah, I love producing electronic music, but I also love playing or learning how to play real instruments too!

@@mylesmontclairvery cool thanks for sharing. Im interested in what you said about drum sample packs. I thought there were tons out there. Do you think there is a real need for that? I’m releasing a whole course on producing pro drum recordings. That might tie into that if it’s something producers are looking for.
@mylesmontclair
@mylesmontclair Год назад
@@Fisherdrumming There are quite a few for sure, but I have found that most aren't the best quality. Something is typically off with how they were recorded (too much environmental noise, not leveled properly, or bad mic placement) or maybe with processing done after recording. So yeah I definitely think if you put out quality samples on your website, splice, wherever, that they would super helpful and used. I really enjoy tweaking acoustic drums for my production to fit into the genre I'm making. They have a way different character than drum machines. But sometimes that helps our music stand out!

It was a bit confusing to see the hi-hat hit on the back beat (1st beats of 2 and 4) written on the partition when you don't actually play it :p ! Love your lessons anyway thank you so much !

Is the notation in the video incorrect for the 2nd and 3rd patterns? They show a hi hat hit on beats 2 and 4 where your right hand is supposed to be hitting the snare instead of the hi hat.
