I use the same Audio interface (Scarlett i212) - but use the free DAW (Cakewalk) which basically works very similar to Amplitude. It's been a great way to supercharge my guitar with different amps and effects. I suggest buying a good set of headphones and some nice studio monitor speakers. I'm also using the DAW to record my own music - which has been a big learning curve (but there are plenty of RU-vid resurces to help). I paid about USD$600 for the full setup and I love it.

Great video. However the question is whether you need studio speakers or any kind of speaker. In my case i have a soundblaster X Katana soundbar for my PC and i am not quite sure how the sound quality will be
@kurtisparker
@kurtisparker 3 месяца назад
I’m pretty sure you would just need to hook up that sound bar to the output of whatever interface you’re using. That might involve some kind of adapter.

Scuffham S-Gear is also very fair priced and does not offer a ton of amps, but 5 really good ones. I think that is preferable over tons of amps you will not actually use. At least I am happy with S-Gear. I use the internal effects (more are coming) as well as some external free or affordable effects which I run through the free version of Cantabile as a VST-host.

@@kurtisparker . . . Scuffham S-Gear is a great stand alone as well as a vst plugin for your DAW. But keep in mind that, unlike Amplitude 5 CS, it is not a free amp sim. The price is $129, but occasionally, it will go on sale for $99. Is it worth it? I think so.

Thanks PD! This behringer is super cheap right now www.amazon.com/BEHRINGER-Audio-Interface-1-Channel-UM2/dp/B00EK1OTZC/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=3MWO36XUGSCQ5&keywords=audio+interface+for+pc&qid=1678074890&sprefix=audio+inter%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-4 Remember that is only one mic input and one inst input. In this case I actually recorded the audio straight into a DAW (music softwares like Ableton or logic). You can link your interface to go out to an amp for sure! (I haven't tried this yet but I know it's possible.)

What do you use for a speaker or speakers? This is where i get confused. I get the interface, and the software/PC. But now i want great room sound. What do you recommend? Like the volume of having a 4x12 cabinet. Or can i use my EVH cabinet i have now? Just bypass the amp??

Sorry man I've seen your comment for a while now and have been thinking of an answer. The easy part, I use these monitor speakers that I hook up directly to my focusrite... www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/presonus-eris-e35-35-powered-studio-monitors-pair/k46362000000000?cntry=US&cur=USD&cntry=US&cur=USD&K46362000000000--PreSonus+Eris+E3.5+3.5%22+Powered+Studio+Monitors+%28Pair%29&source=3WWRWXGS&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAp5qsBhAPEiwAP0qeJn2KdExRJXUF0R4dsrS0ir_FJMVVg51o7tSmMkjrTGulTMi0JZBqDhoCXykQAvD_BwE In order to use your cabinet I know there MUST be a way. You would start with the speaker out from your interface and just take that to your amp....input I suppose? I don't have the experience there but I'm sure that someone has made a video doing that very thing. Thanks for watching! Hoping to add more content in the new year!

I think it's pretty dumb at this day and age that you can't just play through your PC's sound device. having to futz around with ASIO is such a pain in the ass when you've got a nice set of gaming ear cans that you can't use. you gotta unplug them and them stick them into your interface. it's frustrating that no audiophile/PC expert has integrated the two. Amplitube is awesome if I could just output it through the bloody HDMI audio device on the monitor, PC speakers or my Steelseries headset.
@kurtisparker
@kurtisparker 4 месяца назад
I hear ya there, definitely it’s a pain to deal with all that extra stuff. I’m a bit surprised that they don’t make computers with built in soundboards of higher quality that could even have input jacks right on them. Maybe someday!
@fonz3454
@fonz3454 2 месяца назад
Should the gain settings etc. on the sound card be the same as the values in the amplitube program?
@kurtisparker
@kurtisparker 2 месяца назад
It doesn’t have to be. On the focusrite, as long as your gain doesn’t blink red then you are good. Then use your ear in amplitube for the gain setting there. If it starts getting crackly and poppy then your gain is too high. But to answer your question more exactly, they don’t need to match exactly but they’ll probably be somewhat close.

Hmmm, maybe make sure the instrument button is pressed and lit up. Then make sure you turn the gain knob clockwise. When you play now it should hopefully turn the circle around the dial green. Otherwise you may need to reinstall the drivers on your computer. I hope this maybe helps. I always go to reddit if RU-vid doesn't solve my problem! 😂

My guitar sounds good with an amp, but when I use an audio interface it sounds like a 10$ guitar with absolutely terrible quality. I don't know what the issue may be, the guitar and cable is good as it works with an amp, the PC is a beast and maybe just the interface isn't good (UMC22 Behringer), but reviews seemed good. Any thoughts?
@kurtisparker
@kurtisparker 11 месяцев назад
Sorry to reply so late! It could be the interface or it could be drivers that aren't updated totally. You can try to search for the asio4all drivers that are free. Hopefully that might do it. Otherwise you might just need to tweak your gain/volume to make sure the signal isn't clipping.

Why would you want to plug the audio interface into a guitar amp, instead of into a computer? That way your signal chain runs through 2 pre amps. Asking for a friend

@SebastianS72
@SebastianS72 Год назад
A long chain, if you think about the signal way. I think you connect the THR via USB to your PC, right? That driver might perhaps be the problem. When I got me a DAW, I bought an audio interface too, because trying to record with my Marshall Code didn't work too. Marshall don't deliver an ASIO driver and ASIO4ALL didn't work with my DAW. Perhaps with your Yamaha it's similar? To monitor the DAW effect and amp modeling, I would try to use the focusrite too. If you don't have Studio Monitors, connect head phones directly to the interface. That should work better

Yes it will! You'll just need to find a bass amp sim online so that you can make it sound nice and beefy. Also make sure that your speakers/headphones are capable of reproducing the correct bass frequencies.

the sound that comes out of my monitors before recording is not the same sound that plays through my headphones or the sound I hear when it is recorded and played through the monitors or headphones. In fact, the monitors pre-recording kills my guitars tone, making telecaster pickups lose their twang and p90 pickups lose their growl. Weirdly enough, If I crank up the monitors, the tone finally shows up, but this is not the case when I play a guitar recording where I can hear the tone of my instrument at low volumes. I have the Focusrite claret. I'm sick of menu diving, so I think I'm gonna get an amp. Disclaimer, I have not watched the video; I've been using recording equipment for years.

Hey Jeff, sorry I haven’t replied. In most cases, tones like this will come at a cost. Is there a certain amp simulator you are using right now? Sometimes people will create presets that sound very close to an artist and then they will share them online.

My question is how are you listening to your guitar?
@kurtisparker
@kurtisparker Месяц назад
So, do everything in the video and then plug headphones into the headphone jack. The Scarlett has a separate volume knob for headphone level. Turn that up and you should be good to go. If you want to play out loud, then you will have to play through speakers connected to the back of the Scarlett OR select your computer speakers as an output device.

I am going to use a USB equipped amp instead of an audio interface, because every time I ask "would this work, how would it work?" people just tell me not to do it, buy this interface, buy that interface - it's annoying to ask a simple question and be told some shit you already know. I didn't ask if I SHOULD do it. God forbid anyone experiment or sate their curiosity. "Just buy this, just configure like this - here's this youtube video that everyone follows blindly where somebody spells everything out for you"(no offense intended). It's kinda a shame that a lemming mentality pervades the guitar sim software crowd, which is why ya'll been cranking the gain for years before somebody started to question it.
@kurtisparker

Yeah this should definitely work! So long as you direct the usb signal into whatever program you’re running (ableton, protools, amp sim) then it should work in the same way that an interface does!
