Hi Dale, I'm a new subscriber and just wanted to say that your channel is fantastic! The playthroughs are really well done, and your video quality is as good or better than the bigger channels (The Dice Tower, BoardGameGeek, etc.). I really appreciate you taking the time to put these types of videos together. Thank you and keep up the great content!
Got this recently and have only brought it to the table in the last few days with my friends. Decided to try solo tonight and this was extremely helpful! Thank you. Not sure if I’m a fan solo, but will try again now I know how properly and see
@Alice Smith I enjoy the option of solo variants in games, although I typically find most games more suited for more than one. Always nice to have that option to play a game when no one else is around. Happy gaming, and thanks for watching! :)
Is it different in solo mode that you are able to activate the green production powers at the end of summer? In multiplayer you don't get to activate those, only draw two cards from the meadow.
nice video - very helpful. I played solo the first time last night and was crawling through the game so I looked this morning for guidance and this really helped. I will give it another try, but at the end I wondered "was this fun? I kept looking up the bonus cards to see if a match while rifling through my deck or the meadow cards to see what is there. And then some AP thinking of what to do next. some of sure is just learning the cards...but you gave me hope seeing how fast your playthrough could be.so three questions if you don't mind.First at 14:40 you activated the judge to change a resource requirement when building. I thought you could only activate the green cards ability when played or at the end of the appropriate season? I think that was part of my struggle that the nuance of some card's ability was not clear.second, how many playthroughs to get to that level of speed? You were flying knowing what to do next and not even looking at the bonus possibilities.third, any better recommendations instead? No way my game group would embrace this either. Century Spice Road, Port Royal, Azul, Wingspan all have that "fun" feel even with middling strategy element. I'm tentative to call it a bust after one play and will try again, but why would I have my group put the effort into playing several times for something that isn't "fun" initially?
@Tim W Thanks for watching! AP is an issue in many games ... and there are some people I wouldn't play this game with due to that. As for the questions, 1. You are correct about the "green" cards, but the Judge was a different type of card with a "constant" effect. 2. I tend to play quick, which sometimes comes at the effect of not making the optimal play ... and with video editing, I can cut out any long breaks for too much thinking (usually not thinking about the game, but watching the video screen to make sure I'm in screen and foucsed) And lastly, recommendations for the group ... for worker placement games, I've always enjoyed Lords of Waterdeep and Alien Frontiers. Neither have had the AP problem that I see with Everdell. Hope that helps!
As for the games you mentioned, I have only played Century Spice Road (the Golem edition), and it was a good game, easy to play. Wingspan has been getting tons of great reviews ... just don't believe it would do well in my group.
appreciate the replies....and your video quality/editing is excellent even using just your camera phone. I help my teenage daughter with her vlog and you are doing great. keep it up!I'll give an update after I play Everdell a few more times. Not fair to judge on the first run thru. Regarding Wingspan, I was actually avoiding the game due to all of they hype but have enjoyed my solo experience with it so please try it. I'm sure the experts could argue the difference between engine builder/worker placement/tableau...but last night after playing Everdell I had the gut feel of "not fun" that I didn't feel with "somewhat similar" Wingspan and that caused me to search you out (was I playing wrong? I must be missing something based on the Everdell hype.)My next trade/purchases are Empires of the North and Expedition to Newdale.
Thanks! Always good to know the phone does the job ... really can't afford the camera's others recommend to use. Good to hear Wingspan is a good one, i may still pick it up at some point, as for the others, I'm partial to Expedition to New"Dale" just going by the name. ;)
Where does it say what order we play the cards for eg. With postal pigeon? I thought you pick up pigeon, replenish meadow, fully complete the pigeon first then roll for rat?
I noticed that too. You have it correct Crazee! Pickup pigeon, replenish meadow, play Pigeon and resolve. THEN do any triggered effects. Then do Rugwort. .
@@pinkfrankensteinI just started playing and I am SO confused about cadence of play. When do I know I've done too many actions or when do I know I haven't done enough? Hope that makes sense. For instance, he placed two workers during one play and then another time he only played one. Is it all based on doing everything you can before deciding to play a card?
@@MattKeithley You're saying you want to know the perfect play to a brand new game you're learning? The goal is to get points and you take as many actions as you can to get points, or advantages that will give you points later. It's not taking too many actions, it's taking the wrong actions at the wrong time. Like if you're trying to get the achievement cards and someone beats you to it. That's a non-beginner level of play. Don't worry about that until you get 3 games under your belt. Take as many actions as you can, but keep in mind that you don't want to use up resources doing things that won't help you.
@@pinkfrankenstein thank you for the response. What I meant was, I don't want to do anything "illegal" when it's my turn. Right now I'm specifically talking about playing solo. All the rules are the same for the regular game with the exception of the changes for solo play. I thought when it was my turn to play, I could only do 1 of 3 things. But when I watch people play, they're doing like 2-4 things before rugwort goes. I realize he only goes when you play a card to your city but what am I "allowed" to do before I play a card?
@@MattKeithley Oh. i haven't played solo. There could be limits. Should be in the rule book. I'd look to Reddit for answers this user doesn't seem to care about answers to questions.
I can see the appeal for the game, and it is a good worker placement game with great components ... but with that said it is no longer in my collection. It just wasn’t my style of game that will be brought to the table when I’m in the mood for a solo game, and we had an issue with Analysis Paralysis (AP) when we played it in our group. I know this is a great game for some groups, but not my typical group. Hope that helped.
I thought your video shows this incorrectly. You played you white rabbit. To gain resources. I thought then it is the opponents turn. You had like 4 turns before you had the automa go. Then I saw that others also did the same and that the rules on page 15 says Rugwort, does not roll until a card is played. This makes sense now. Wish it was a little more clear in the solo rules. I played a solo game rolling after every move and there is no way to win that way.
The automa only goes when you play a card. You can take all the actions you want, but when you play a card, you then roll for the automa. If you played a card from the meadow, you replenish the meadow with a new card, activate any actions on your played card, then roll for automa. If you played a card from your hand, you activate any actions on that card, then roll for automa.
