You've got me. It's crazy because it's the best minis game Hasbro has ever made. The D&D Adventure System board games are great too, but they lack the terrain effects. What's fun is to blend the two together and use Heroscape battle dice rules and terrain effects in the D&D Adventure System board games. It breathes a lot of life into those games. Heck, for that matter Heroscapes battle dice system is great in any game that uses dice in combat.
The reason is plastic, it must be fricking expensive to release or keep a line of games like this. With today’s prices it would be a +100$ price tag and to be honest it wasn’t that popular so sadly I don’t think is going to come back ever again (at least in this format). Having said that, I have scored a core set on eBay before it goes as rare as hens teeth.
Wikipedia says they sold it to the D&D people who almost immediately canceled it. Apparently they only wanted it to try and convert people to D&D. So basically they bought a competitor and then killed it.
Glad to hear it! Welcome. What regional area do you live in? There’s lots of Heroscapers all over you’ll have to meet a few. Also, have you been on Heroscapers.com yet?
@@SirHeroscape I don’t think the email response worked. I’m near Charleston SC. Would like to meet fellow Heroscapers! I’d like to send you photos of my game set up I made. My email is dsuhich@yahoo.com
Yes, there'll be 5 of us playing and I don't know how many will have played it before so we've the day set aside. It's a bank holiday weekend here in Ireland and everyone knows that bank holiday Sundays were invented for learning new board games!
Dang i need to pull this back out and show my 40k gaming group. Sometimes we dont feel like doing a four hour slog in 40k so this is the perfect game to play on a weekend night
How to account for line of sight in Heroscape. Would love to understand more about that from a seasoned tournament player like yourself. e.g. An Airborne elite is standing on a 11 hight castle with battlements and he has line of sight down as he is allowed to lean over/ use the gaps in the battlements for targeting freely, but can’t be targeted himself because figures 11 lvels below him can’t see him. I hope battlements see a comeback in Age of Annihilation!
Thanks for the demo! More people should play this great game! It's great for old grognards like me who feel like playing a relatively simple game now and then and for newbies who are intimidated by seemingly impossibly complex wargames. I got all of the D&D stuff for HS at the time when it was on the self new. I've sadly sold most of the terrain I had for it to get some much needed cash. I'm tempted to buy some used stuff now. I still use the minis for D&D and other RPGs as they are amazing minis anyway. I still have Magic the Gathering's version of HS which is almost the same but with MTG cards worked into it. I love playing it and making my own scenarios for it. Sometimes, we cut out cardboard or paper 'tiles' to make up for my now lack of plastic ones. I've thought about putting velcro on the cardboard tiles to kinda make them stack together. :)
I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah this is the best game and part of me doing this is to keep it alive. Glad you still have some of your collection. Nowadays with 3D printing being so good, you should try printing some terrain and/or minis! There are free .stl files on heroscapers.com
Dude I had the big heros cape starter box plus a castle and a couple other expansion map boxes and a bunch of units I remember when Walmart sold heroscape and that was forever ago
Looking forward to playing the new heroscape release with my kids and friends! If you missed the boat on old heroscape like me, check out the new one at hasbro pulse.
Thanks for the helpful video! I do have one question. In the squad, would each unit attack individually with all attack dice, or would they attack as one unit, once. Thanks!
Great video, just a couple of questions. Squad movement, does each figure get 6 moves or is it 6 moves shared between the 4? The second one, say you have one person attacking the dragon from the front, and a second from the back, can the dragon attack and defend both? Because surely he can't see the one behind?? When you say the stg can't be attacked ,does that mean that ranged characters have to be one space next to him in order to attack him? Thanks
Each figure gets to move up to 6 spaces (or whatever their move value is). Yes the Dragon can attack and defend figures behind him for melee combat. It’s a little different when it comes to ranged attacks, but melee engagements don’t require line of sight. Correct, Sgt Drake can only be attacked by Adjacent figures with a NORMAL attack. Special attacks bypass his special ability.
Recently had to return to my parents house (Thanks Covid-19) And found this game whilst sorting some old stuff out. Never actually played it as a kid and unfortunately there are some bits missing (water tiles, wound markers, dice, and character cards) But would love to get these somewhere and try playing it out - Seems right up my street - Know where I can get these? Cheers - great video btw
Amazon is not actually the best place to look for it. eBay is a good place to look for master sets used if you know how to shop on eBay well. All Things Heroscape is a good place to look for other specific heroes. I recently made some purchases from both of those places.
For ranged characters what if they're facing the wrong way (position wise) but has clear range and line of sight if they were facing the right way Does normal attack still proceed without the need to turn the figure around to attack?
Yes. As long as you can see the enemy figure from the sight point of your figure, then you can shoot… even if technically you’re shooting from the back of your figures head
@@SirHeroscape I have gone on again, off again over the years. I I get back into a little bit. My gaming group plays on a map. A new game comes up - currently Cloudspire - and Heroscape goes back to being art against the wall for a couple of years. Your stuff is entertaining in that therapeutic, comfort food sort of way, like home made chicken soup. ... Aaaah, Heroscape! : D
@@sirtrevis haha! Well thanks, glad to hear it. What region/state you in? There’s probably a Heroscape tournament scene near you, and that’s a perfect way to stay involved but only occasionally.
@@sirtrevis nice! There are quite a few ‘scapers in that area. They used to hold tournaments there regularly but have since been sparse. Are you familiar with Heroscapers.com? There’s and events thread there and a few of the Colorado guys have been looking for people to play with. The page is here…www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=27400&page=166
It’s been out of production for the last 13 years. BUT, they just announced it’s coming back and they’ll have their new first wave of units ready for purchase by Q1 of 2024
@@Raider_Todd No, only one special attack per turn. But if you attack with a special ability, you cannot use the normal attack. You pick one or the other
Quick question, if one of your characters die with unused order markers, do those markers move to your other character or does it go unused for that round?
So normal figures like marro warriors cant attack some hero figures depends on the description, and the special attacks how many times you can use them?
@@SirHeroscape ooooo nice, and what about the powers on each card, i can use the power in one turn, for example if i have hmmm 2 marks in one hero card i can use it 2 times, or just 1 complete turn?
Wait so the Xs on the turn counters don't mean anything? Like if you put an x next to number 1 then does it skip your second turn? Or does it never matter it's just an extra piece?
Correct, it’s an extra piece. It’s main purpose is for strategy in order to “fake out” your opponent as to where your turns are. But, it also is used for some unit abilities like Evar Scarcarver or Siege who use it to activate their abilities.
@@SirHeroscape interesting thanks for the reply :) I had heroscape growing up as a kid but lost all my pieces and stuff with consecutive moves over the years.
It's kinda hard to find them, but try finding someone on heroscapers.com who can sell you some or just scour eBay until you find a good deal. It's not always easy either way
@@SirHeroscape Honestly it's pretty perfect I feel like if you do Do it in august when we can get the new hero escape stuff And show how to integrate and explain different tiles
@SirHeroscape I don't know if you do special request But I would love to see Zelrig Army Optimize With like 500 to 700 hundred points. I'm a casual player But my favorite happens to be one of the most expensive pieces out there . 😞 So what i'm saying is I'd love to see a video with you at the helm of zelrig Win or lose but build your best game play army.
yes, but if you find a community member selling their collection (which there are always a few) you can usually get a fair price (but you'll wanna look on heroscapers.com)
