Thank you Lauren! Even after a couple of days I can feel the difference this exercise is making, not just to quiet high notes, but to high notes in general... because if you can play high notes quietly then you can easily play them louder too :) I think there are three reasons why this exercise works so well: 1) Playing quietly forces you to find the right embouchure and air speed for each note 2) Playing slow/long notes gives you time to optimise that embouchure 3) Then you are also in a good starting position for the next note, because you are just stepping up chromatically. So thanks again for a great exercise!
Hello everyone! Thought I'd provide some time markers here for your convenience: 1:20 - basic set up for playing high notes, 3:35 - differences between soft and loud playing, 4:42 - helpful exercises to develop soft high notes. :) Thanks for watching!
Thank you Lauren. You certainly identified what my problem is. I get tense and tight in my upper register. Loose and pouty is what I will work on. Some days I sound good and other days I am awful. Thank you again 🙏. Michael
Thank you so much for the video! I think, learning flute playing is difficult, because there is no standard receipt. We all have a different mouth shape etc. and it does not work exact the same way it works at another person. You gave me useful hints to learn the high notes and I liked it very much that you showed your mouth zoomed in. Many thanks from an old flute student....
Thank you so much for this lesson, I took flute in High School in 1975- 1980 but recently bought a new flute. I live in a condo and was worried that I would disturd the naughbers they said they can't hear me practice. so thank you again. your teaching skills are wonderful. and i look forward to learning more from you
How hard is it to play a high G in the 3rd register at pp? Debussy has this orchestral tune where it sounds like a piccolo is just holding a super high note during a quiet passage. It’s been years since I heard it; but it was something unique enough to take note of.
I love your videos so much! I teach 44 beginner flutes in 2 separate sections so each class has 22.... so I am looking for all of the advice I can get ;) I also really love the pneumo pro!
Hello Lauren. I've seen many of yourvideos, that's why I Have questions. 1. When i Play my flute, some sounds sound terrible, such as from D to B. From C to D and viceversa, from F# to E. I've tried playing slow, changing my breathin but nothing happens. Could you tell any form to change and improve this pls? I'm exhausted with those notes.
